1924 wird Lina Bernhardt als viertes von zehn Kindern in Schw bisch Hall geboren. Die Familie lebt in schwierigen Verh ltnissen und die Eltern sind berfordert. Bald schaltet sich das Jugendamt ein und Lina wird mit drei ihrer Geschwister nach Lichtenstern ins Kinderheim gebracht. Aufgrund einer fr heren Erkrankung ist das lebenslustige M dchen leicht geistig und k rperlich behindert. Ohne die Geschwister muss sie 1931 in die Heil- und Pflegeanstalt Stetten umziehen. Mit ihrer fr hlichen und sonnigen Art findet sie dort schnell Anschluss - gerne singt sie den Pflegerinnen Lieder vor, erz hlt fantasievolle Geschichten oder berichtet von ihren Tr umen, die oft von Familienmitgliedern handeln. Im September 1940 stehen die ersten "grauen Busse" vor der Stettener Anstalt, zahlreiche Bewohner werden im Rahmen der "Aktion T4" in Vernichtungslager transportiert. Linas Weg f hrt ber Winnental und Weinsberg. Im Alter von 17 Jahren wird sie in der T tungsanstalt Hadamar ermordet. Ruth Dunkelmann und Brigitte Wege erinnern mit diesem Buch an die Geschichte ihrer Tante. In 1924, Lina Bernhardt is born in Schw bisch Hall, the fourth of ten children. The family circumstances are very difficult and the parents are overburdened. Soon the Youth Welfare Office gets involved and Lina is taken to the children's home in Lichtenstern with three of her siblings. Due to a previous illness, the fun-loving girl is slightly mentally and physically handicapped. Without her siblings, she has to move to the Stetten Sanatorium and Care Home in 1931. With her cheerful and sunny nature, she quickly makes friends there - she enjoys singing songs to the nursing staff, telling imaginative stories and recounting her dreams, which are often about family members. In September 1940, the first "gray buses" start to appear in front of the Stetten institution. Numerous residents are transported to extermination camps as part of the "Action T4" genocide program. Lina's path takes her first to Winnenden and then to Weinsberg. At the age of 17, she is murdered at the killing center in Hadamar. In this book, Ruth Dunkelmann and Brigitte Wege recall the story of their aunt. Using letters and reports from Lina's medical records, they reveal the touching fate of an exceptional girl.

A participant in the efforts to reshape Italian culture in her youth, Bo Bardi immigrated to Brazil in 1946, where her practice evolved within the social and cultural realities of her adopted country. While she continued to work with industrial materials, she added simple building techniques and naturalistic forms to her designs, striving to create large, multiuse spaces that promoted public life.Lina Bo Bardi is the first comprehensive study of the architect’s life and work. Author Zeuler Lima, the leading authority on Bo Bardi, presents her activities on two continents, examining how ethical and social considerations influenced her intellectual engagement with modern architecture and providing an indispensable guide to her writings and her experimental, iconic designs.

Bo Bardi’s major writings on architecture, however, have not been translated, and are not well known. This book contains the first English-language translation of Propeadeutic Contribution to the Teaching of Architecture Theory, (Habitat, Ltd. São Paulo, 1957), a seminal text, published in Portuguese by the Italo-Brazilian Bo Bardi. It is arguably the first published writing on architecture theory by a practicing woman architect. Accompanying the translation is an introductory essay that interprets Bo Bardi’s text as a critical and constructive theory of architecture built from a collection of textual and visual artifacts. This translation clearly renders Bo Bardi’s work in English, and contextualizes it theoretically, taking into account the specific historical sources and contemporaneous discourses from which it draws. With comparisons to other important architectural pedagogies and theoretical texts of the period, it is also an inquiry into the nature of architecture history and theory, its role in education and its relation to practice.
