The work of award-winning poet, performance artist, actor, and musician Linda J. Albertano and her husband of 55 years, Frank Lutz, is collected in On the Life of Linda J. Albertano, including poetry, stories, and prose, as well as memorabilia from Linda's astounding performance career. Linda J. Albertano, award-winning poet and Poetry Diva of the City of Los Angeles, was an enchantress, musician, performance artist, actress, and filmmaker. As a child, she was reared in various unkindly foster homes. But this six-foot-four beauty with brains excelled and made her art speak for her. Frank Lutz was Linda's lover, husband, partner, and best friend for more than 55 years. While Frank was the quiet one of the pair, his experiences as an athlete, scholar, pilot, sailor, and European aficionado provided the kernel for much of his narrative poetry. Together they were creative scholastic gems.

Holloway and illustrated by Cameron Wilson. The story follows Linda, a little girl whose parents are going through a divorce. Linda notices the small changes that indicate her parents' marriage is falling apart, such as their lack of affection toward each other and not spending time together at home. One day, her parents sit her down and explain that they are getting a divorce. They reassure her that it is not her fault and that they will continue to be present in her life and love her. Linda's parents help her create a We Love You Jar, where she can place any questions she has about her parents' separation and what it means for her future.Little Miss Linda Copes with Divorce is a touching and helpful book that offers valuable insight into how children can cope with the challenges of divorce. The story focuses on the emotional impact of divorce on a child and how parents can support them through the process. It is essential for children to feel reassured and loved during such difficult times, and Linda J.M. Holloway provides a valuable perspective on dealing with divorce from a child's point of view. The book will help young readers navigate the complex emotions that come with divorce, providing a safe space for them to express their feelings and ask questions that can greatly aid in their emotional well-being. I particularly enjoyed the concept of the We Love You Jar as it is a creative and helpful tool that facilitates important conversations. The book is well-written and has colorful illustrations that will capture children's attention. This is a must-read for both children and adults who have families experiencing a divorce.

Whether we talk to children about death or not, it is an inevitable reality of life. We often want to shelter children from many harsh realities of life, particularly death. However, young children certainly need a safe space to speak about their emotions concerning loss, whether it is the death of a loved one, their pet, or any other form of loss. This book is an excellent way to engage children in conversations about the topic of death. In this book, Little Miss Linda copes with the loss of her mother through various activities they were able to do prior to her mother's death. These heartwarming activities will certainly be an inspiration for other young children as they cope with the painful reality of death.

Little Miss Linda is a dark-skinned girl who has been treated cruelly because of the color of her skin. Her father is in the military, so she has had the privilege of living in various places around the world including Japan, Korea, Philippines, Alaska, and Germany. Often, she and her siblings would be the only African American children in their classes.Little Miss Linda was full of excitement when her father told the family he was retiring and moving to Mississippi. She thought that the mean words about her dark skin would stop. She imagined her family would be surrounded by people who were like her, but to her surprise, she continued to be teased and taunted about the complexion of her skin. This book illustrates how Little Miss Linda was able to turn a negative situation into a positive one. She did this through teaching her class, school, and community the power of appreciating and celebrating people regardless of their skin color. The power and effectiveness of Little Miss Linda's diversity story is made practical by the "Skittles Story." Yes, if only Skittles could talk right? They do in this book Through this elementary story all children can relate to the simple truth that people are more alike than they are different and diversity is to be celebrated. Readers' FavoriteFive Star Review by Daniel D. StaatsIn Little Miss Linda Speaks Out about Diversity, Dr. Linda Holloway tackles the thorny issue of discrimination. In this case, it is mostly about racial discrimination, but discrimination in any form is just as evil. The author is an African-American herself and has experienced the pain of people holding her skin color against her. This book contains some excellent ideas concerning how to handle bullies and racists. Ryan Battle has drawn excellent illustrations to emphasize the point made in this book. This book is ideal for teaching young people of color how to handle discrimination. Just as significantly, this book can help all children learn why discrimination is wrong and a better way of accepting diversity. The sooner we teach our children that different is good, the sooner we can have peace.

In the African-American community, counseling is seldom discussed or described in a way that portrays counseling in a positive matter. As a result, children are not aware of what counseling is or how it can help them to speak with a school counselor or other professionals about problems they have. Many children remain silent about their emotions because they may not feel safe talking about their feelings with others. This book is an opportunity to create a safe space for children to begin to talk about their emotions and know that it is okay to ask for help and seek counseling. Readers' FavoriteFive Star Review by Amy Louise HillLittle Miss Linda Goes to Counselling was a joy to read. I loved following Little Miss Linda's mental health journey and I was left feeling confident knowing any child reading this wonderful book will be inspired to open up just as Linda did. I think it's really important to teach and prepare children about the different emotions they may experience when growing up as they may become confused, scared, or even feel as if they are alone, which isn't something we want them to go through. Luckily, books like Little Miss Linda Goes to Counselling exist to reassure them that there are people who can help. I can't praise Linda J.M. Holloway enough; they have done an amazing job at creating a book that will prove to be crucial in children's lives. I urge anyone who has noticed a change in their child's behavior to buy this book and hope that they see the brighter side of what they may be feeling, or at the very least, enjoy Linda's story. Congratulations, Linda J.M. Holloway; I'm sure your book will be a great success

2022 Distinguished Authors Guild-DAG2022 PenCraft Book Award2022 Purple Dragonfly Book Award Honorable Mention Rape is an extremely difficult topic to discuss with young children; however, it is a necessary conversation we must have. This book allows parents, teachers, counselors, administrators and those who work with children to create a responsible and safe space to talk about rape. The "Me Too Movement" is not just about adults but it is a conversation for children too. Statistics have shown that every nine minutes 1 in 9 girls and 1 and 53 boys will be sexually assaulted. We can no longer wait The time is now to have this conversation. Little Miss Linda, as a rape survivor, learns to use her voice to express thoughts about rape, but not from feeling, out of "shame or guilt." Instead, she develops a letter writing campaign to let other children know that rape is not the victim's fault. Little Miss Linda creates a community outreach program called "STAR" (Survivors Talking About Rape). She encourages other to not sit still but lift up their voices and be silent no more. Join the campaign against rape so we can "STAR" together. Please be advised that this book is best suited for those ages 12+. It contains themes around sexual assault/violence. This book may also provoke psychological distress; thus, ensure that the proper resources and contacts are available should they be necessary. Reader's Favorite Five Star Reviewed By Rylanne Burdette Little Miss Linda Speaks about Rape is a challenging yet powerful read that hit my heart in a way that I wasn't expecting when I first picked it up. Although I have not experienced anything like this, I have several friends who have, and I think that this book, even though it is marketed as a children's book, would really impact them as well. The illustrations alongside the dialogue and plot all worked together to create a story that will stick with me for a long time. I would recommend Little Miss Linda Speaks about Rape by Linda J. M. Holloway to children who are in elementary school, but I also think that parents or other trusted adults should be present when it is read. This book is one that needs to be thought about and talked about during and after reading it.Little Miss Linda Speaks about Rape by Linda J. M. Holloway is a must-read book.

Quinoa’s new status as a superfood has altered the economic fortunes of Quechua farmers in the Andean highlands. Linda J. Seligmann journeys to the Huanoquite region of Peru to track the mixed blessings brought about by the surging worldwide popularity of this “exquisite grain.” Focusing on how Indigenous communities have confronted globalization, Seligmann examines the influence of food politics, development initiatives, and the region’s agrarian history on present-day quinoa production among Huanoquiteños. She also looks at the human stories behind these transformations, from the work of quinoa brokers to the ways Huanoquite’s men and women navigate the shifts in place and power occurring in their homes and communities. Finally, Seligmann considers how the consequences of nearby mining may impact Huanoquiteños’ ability to farm quinoa and thrive in their environment, and the efforts they are taking to resist these threats to their way of life. The untold story behind the popular health food, Quinoa illuminates how Indigenous communities have engaged with the politics and policies surrounding their production of a traditional and minor crop that became a global foodstuff.

For more than twenty years, Linda J. Seligmann walked the streets of Peru in city and countryside alike, talking to the women who work in the informal and open-air markets in Cuzco's Andean highlands. Her combination of ethnographic analysis, insightful and human vignettes, and superb photographs offers a humane yet incisive portrait of the women's lives against the backdrop of globalization and other powerful forces. In Peruvian Street Lives, Seligmann argues that the sometimes invisible and informal economic, social, and political networks market women establish may appear disorderly and chaotic, but in fact often keep dysfunctional economies and corrupt bureaucracies from utterly destroying the ability of citizens to survive from day to day. Seligmann asks why the constructive efforts of market women to make a living provoke such negative social perceptions from some members of Peruvian society, who see them as symbols and actual catalysts of social disorder. At the same time, Seligmann shows how market women eke out a living, combat discrimination, and transgress racial and gender ideologies within the rich and expressive cultural traditions they have developed.

Inez Milholland was the most glamorous suffragist of the 1910s and a fearless crusader for women's rights. Moving in radical circles, she agitated for social change in the prewar years, and she epitomized the independent New Woman of the time. Her death at age 30 while stumping for suffrage in California in 1916 made her the sole martyr of the American suffrage movement. Her death helped inspire two years of militant protests by the National Woman's Party, including the picketing of the White House, which led in 1920 to ratification of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote. Lumsden's study of this colorful and influential figure restores to history an important link between the homebound women of the 19th century and the iconoclastic feminists of the 1970s.
