Insearch of Mickey Mantle is a collection of poems about the search for an elusive hero and also about a deeper search, an inward search, an insearch, for meaning. The poems travel through the lush--and often arid--inner landscape of memory and relationships, health and aging, and nature and spirituality. The journey inward is the journey of the soul; it is the journey towards home. To take that first step is to take the first step towards healing and forgiveness. Insearch of Mickey Mantle invites the reader to embrace the soulful journey of being with gratitude and joy.

The Care of Souls is a collection of essays and short reflections on the art of pastoral supervision in the clinical pastoral education (CPE) learning process. The essays focus on different aspects of supervisory theory, and are juxtaposed with reflections on the raw helplessness of both the patient and the chaplain, which can occur at the bedside. This collection highlights the critical importance of self-awareness, the inexact art of caring, and the hard necessity of listening to another person's pain. ""Logan's collection of writings pulls back the curtain to reveal perceptive insights into the art of pastoral supervision. These reflections showcase his years of experience as a creative and astute pastoral educator through the nimbleness of his intellect and depth of compassion for the human experience. Logan's work, which can read as monograph and meditation, is edifying and moving for aspiring and seasoned practitioners."" --Peggy Davis Gold, Department of Chaplain Services and Education, Duke University Hospital ""Clinical pastoral education is difficult to describe and hard to understand unless one has experienced the process. Logan Jones provides insight in The Care of Souls that will illuminate the path for students, clergy, and educators who are learning and teaching the art of spiritual care. He honors theories, sacred texts, and personal reflection as well as the mystery and chaos that can lead to transformed lives. It reflects his authenticity and care."" --Mary Ann Boothe, Supervisor, Department of Spiritual Care, WakeMed Health & Hospitals, Raleigh, North Carolina ""Logan Jones tells a good story. And he has a true gift for making complex theory accessible. In The Care of Souls, he draws first upon one talent, then another, so that the book's very structure supports his central tenet of pastoral supervision: it is about the integration of heart and head, of personal narrative with the skills and arts of spiritual care. Logan's life, as pastor and as educator, shines through."" --Jay Foster, Vice President of Spiritual Care, Chaplaincy, and Congregational Partnerships, Indiana University Health ""This book should be in the hands of everyone who seeks to minister and care for the soul of another. Jones presents both the complexity and simplicity of ministry to those in suffering. While bringing an understanding of how to care for another, he helps us to understand ourselves more fully. As I read Jones's insight in The Care of Souls, I found care for my own soul and you will too "" --Joel Ray, Vice President, Patient Care Services, and Chief Nursing Officer, UNC REX Healthcare Logan C. Jones is the director of Pastoral Care Services and is an ACPE certified educator at UNC REX Healthcare in Raleigh, North Carolina. Ordained in the Moravian Church, he is the author of two books of poetry, No Man's Land and Last Call.

Mary McLeod Bethune in Washington, D.C.: Activism and Education in Logan Circle
Best known as an educator and early civil rights activist, Mary McLeod Bethune was the daughter of former slaves. After moving to Washington, D.C., in 1936, she organized and represented thousands of women with the National Council of Negro Women. She led the charge to change the segregationist policies of local hospitals and concert halls, and she acted as a mentor to countless African American women in the District. Residents of all races were brought together to honor Bethune's birthday with some of the first games between the local Negro League team and a white semi-pro team. Historian Ida E. Jones explores the monumental life of Mary McLeod Bethune as a leader, a crusader and a Washingtonian.

Natural Armor: Injury Prevention for Climbers

Natural Armor: Injury Prevention for Climbers

Natural Armor is a brief manual addressing injury prevention for rock climbers. It is broken down into three sections: The Nature of Climbing Overuse Injury, Adapting the Hands and Forearms, and Adapting the Scapula and Shoulders. The adaptation sections include several pictures and dialogue addressing correct as well as incorrect climbing techniques. There are also directions and several pictures demonstrating proper exercise form to maximize your natural armor. It is not my goal to give you a program, regiment or list of instructions. Rather, I believe that Cultivating knowledge of how your body works, what forces are acting on it and how to adapt your body to face those forces is a much better method of cultivating a body which is resilient to injury. We all own a body and therefore have a responsibility to understand it to a degree which allows us to live the life we want and be free of chronic pain. To accomplish this we must condition our mind as much as our body because they are one and the same. We must attempt to decipher the vocabulary of signals our body sends us, understand (to an extent) what they mean and actively engage techniques that adapt ourselves to address the root issues. I hope this text will help give you a few insights toward those goals. -Logan Scully

In the early hours of November 16, 1959, a commercial airliner mysteriously plunges into the Gulf of Mexico and quickly becomes one of the most baffling mysteries in aviation history. Presumed dead in the wreckage of Flight 967, ticketed passenger Dr. Robert Vernon Spears is alive and well, speeding west on a southern highway, seizing the chance to leave his past behind--a past that defies all belief. But when Dr. Spears' old friend is also discovered missing, a more sinister plot begins to emerge. In the months that follow, the nation is spellbound by bizarre revelations of substituted passengers, hypnosis, deception, and hidden identities--dramatized across the headlines through a soap-opera rivalry between the wives of the two missing men. Each new twist is stranger than the last, as a larger web of political bribery, police corruption, crime, and deception is slowly uncovered. In a feature 1960 cover story, Life magazine concluded it was "a case so bizarre that even the most imaginative mystery writer would hesitate to use the plot." Yet, as incredible as this seemed at the time, it was still only a fraction of a much larger story spanning decades--of imposters, society romance, underground abortion rings, Hollywood connections, forgery, aliases, artful dodgers, and naturopathic quackery--with a cast of characters to match. Each player on a trajectory toward involvement, in one form or another, in the Flight 967 enigma. At the center was one of America's most prolific yet mysterious confidence men--a kind man, a gentleman, and a model husband. In a story that has never been told. Until now.
