Learning About and Living With Racism In America
There is an old saying, "Curiosity kill the cat, satisfaction brought him back." My curiosity was killing me after I read an article by Earl Ofari Hutchinson. (2013) "Why So Many People Believe Blacks Are America's Racists". That conclusion was based on a Rasmussen (2013) telephone poll of 1000 respondents and noted "a significant percent of blacks . . . said they consider more blacks racist than whites or Hispanics". Of course, a multitude of questions about the survey crossed my mind. The topic peaked my curiosity and I decided to explore whether, based on my journey after arriving in America, I could qualify as a Racist. During that journey, I had to research the definitions of "racist", "racism", "bigot", and the behaviors, social and hereditary norms, laws, etc., that could contribute to anyone in America, with such a diverse population, to be a racist. In my pursuit of that knowledge, I learned about the personal beliefs, social rules, laws, regulations, and more importantly the insidious nature of and how it affects the everyday lives of the American landscape. My research lead to my journey of "Learning About and Living With Racism in America".
Everywhere, Everywhen: Art, Artists, Stories, from the Kimberley, Arnhem Land, and the Southern Plains
This book introduces more than 20 Indigenous artists of Australia from the Kimberley, Arnhem Land and the southern river and desert plains. It provides photographic portraits, color artworks, short biographies, Indigenous stories, and many other details in a highly accessible and engaging yet also thorough way, providing insights into this culture with an unbroken history of some 60,000 years. The title Everywhere, Everywhen is a reference to the Indigenous concept of The Dreaming and time itself, which sees past, present, and future as being co-existent but on different plains, a fascinating concept very different to Western perceptions of chronology. The book further details how sites and features of the natural landscape, as well as certain cultural practices and ceremonies, provide, according to Indigenous beliefs, portals into these different realms.

Incorporating the insights of new coeditor Lewis Vaughn, Classics of Philosophy, Third Edition, is the most comprehensive anthology of writings in Western philosophy in print. Spanning 2,500 years of thought, it is ideal for introduction to philosophy and history of philosophy courses. It features more than seventy selections by forty philosophers—along with fragments from the Pre-Socratics—offering students and instructors an extensive and economical collection of the major works of the Western tradition. This volume contains the most important writings from Thales to Rawls; twenty of these are complete works, while the others are judiciously abridged so that little of value to the student is lost. A lucid introduction, including a brief biographical sketch, accompanies each of the featured philosophers. NEW TO THE THIRD EDITION: * Selections from philosophers who were not included in the previous edition—Maimonides (Guide for the Perplexed) and Schopenhauer (The World as Will and Representation)—along with Kant's Critique of Pure Reason * Expanded readings: Aristotle's Posterior Analytics, On the Soul, Metaphysics, and Nicomachean Ethics; Berkeley's Of the Principles of Human Knowledge; and Hume's Treatise on Human Nature * Review questions for each chapter and illustrated portraits of many philosophers * A Companion Website at www.oup.com/us/pojman featuring resources for students (self-quizzes, flash cards, chapter review questions, a timeline, and helpful web links) and instructors (brief reading summaries, essay questions, test questions, and PowerPoint-based lecture slides) Classics of Philosophy, Third Edition, provides students with an extensive view of the major stages of growth in Western philosophy—including its birth with the Pre-Socratics and its contemporary developments—in an accessible format and at an affordable price.
