This story, in rhyme, is about two Africa Spur-thighed Sulcata tortoises, Shell and Lily. They were rescued as young tortoises, and came to live at the Williams house where they were loved by everyone, including the neighbors who would find them walking down the sidewalk, and even the mailmen who would rescue them as they wandered. As they continued to grow, it was obvious that they would need bigger accommodations and a warmer climate. It was a tough decision to set them free, as they were loved very much. And so their journey continues at the Makauwahi Cave Reserve on the Island of Kaua'i where they can live in a perfect climate, dine on all sorts of natural vegetation, be in contact with humans as they are so friendly and social, and help to preserve the native plants by eating the invasive weeds. Fortunately, the Williams family can volunteer at the Reserve and visit their beloved tortoises.

The Williams Family and an Iguana Named Diego: A Lesson in Unconditional Love and Acceptance No Matter the 'scale'
Book number 8 is about our very own pet dragon, an Iguana named Diego. It is funny how animals end up in a household.Sometimes there is a grand scheme and lots of planning, and other times, by luck or chance, an opportunity happens. Iwasn't looking to have an Iguana, though I always admired their very prehistoric good looks. There happened to be anad, in which someone was looking to rehome their very large Iguana, because the husband had his pet banished to thegarage. The man liked his Iguana, and had him since he was 6" long. The now 4 foot lizard intimated his wife. Anyone who knows an Iguana realizes that they can stare at you without blinking an eye. The wife found this unnerving as she never could figure what Diego was really thinking. As a matter of fact, I was sent to the garage to meet Diego by myself, and there he was looking at me from behind his giant glass aquarium. For me, it was instant curiosity, admiration and love. Life with what nature had allowed us to experience in his handsomely primitive beauty, was also witness to how he could weave his innate andinstinctive behaviors, into our lives.

One journey with autism, two perspectives. A mother-son duo team up to tell the true life tale of a sensitive young man named Canyon, who's been diagnosed with autism. Canyon himself provides glimpses into his soft and intricate inner universe through his essays and short stories, while his mother, Ana Lora, recounts their shared life journey from Canyon's birth until his coming of age as a young man. Together the two of them create a touching and entertaining memoir, depicting a life much bigger than an autism label-one that celebrates the deepest love and compassion each of us is capable of experiencing. Praise for Love, Canyon: A Journey Beyond the Autism Label: "Canyon's clear expression of his feelings helps to blow apart the concept that young people with autism find love and empathy impossible. At the same time, Ana Lora's openness about her own struggles and successes as a parent provides inspiration for us all." -Oliver Cheney, President of Meristem (a school for young adults on the autism spectrum) "Love, Canyon: A Journey Beyond the Autism Label contains a beautiful and poignant portrayal of the rich inner life of a young man with autism, and his mother's commitment to supporting his journey to adulthood with love, dignity, and acceptance." -Carol Curtin, PhD, Associate Professor of Family Medicine & Community Health @ University of Massachusetts Medical School "Written from a more spiritual perspective than most books of its type ... and very refreshing." -Vikie Shanks, author of Unravelled, TED speaker, mentor, and mother of 7 (6 with autism) "The reader walks away with a sense of humanity, compassion, and hope." -Jenny Palmiotto, Psy.
