Il FS si crea quando un evento positivo talmente intenso che il ricordo di quell'evento si fissa nella mente della persona. Formato dal ricordo delle sensazioni, delle emozioni, dei pensieri e del comportamento dell'evento stesso, ogni volta che viene attivato il FS suscita spinte e voglie di ripetere il comportamento racchiuso nel ricordo fissato. La Feeling-State Therapy (FST) elimina le dipendenze eliminando il FS. Quando il FS eliminato, spinte e voglie di ripetere il comportamento provocate da FS sono a loro volta eliminati.
