It is said that at the start of the 21st century a certain indifference and lethargy characterise many European states. This is supposedly attributable partly to the peace and affluence secured within the EC, but otherwise to doubts regarding the ways towards and objectives of further European integration. The emphasis on national identity on the one hand and hopes for a 'united states of Europe' on the other is an insurmountable paradox which produces its own dynamic. It seems almost impossible to reconcile these opposing concepts in a way which will find acceptance among the majority of the people. The concern of this book is to re-establish the European idea and to show that the EU member states can build upon common elements to create a European identity so as to work together and complete the tasks which confront them all. This book indicates the initial components of a European concept of legislation and judicial interpretation, required if European integration is to develop into a force for positive change. Together with increased transparency and further democratisation, a method of European legislation and judicial interpretation is essential for the legitimacy and persuasiveness of law. This volume constitutes the proceedings of the Thirteenth Inter national Symposium on Acoustical Imaging which was held in Minneapolis, Minnesota during October 26-28, 1983. Forty-eight research papers were presented during the meeting by researchers from twelve countries, again demonstrating the true international character of these meetings. Of these presentations this volume contains forty-two complete manuscripts. The abstracts for addi tional papers that were not available at publication time are also included. According to the recent tradition of these symposia an inter disciplinary program under the general theme of acoustical imaging was organized. This can clearly be observed from the wide range of topics and approaches contained in the following manuscripts. There are papers of mathematical nature dealing with the basis of image formation and algorithms for digitally carrying out specific imaging tasks. One finds manuscripts dealing with the design and construction of imaging transducers as well as complete imaging systems. Applications include medical imaging and nondestructive testing, seismic and underwater imaging. This volume, therefore, should be of interest to active researchers in acoustical imaging as a report on current research and to workers in signal process ing, sonics and ultrasonics who are interested in exploring the diverse areas of application for their fields of interest. These proceedings are organized in seven topical sections, paral leling the sessions of the conference. These are: Inversion and Tomography, Microscopy, Scattering and Propagation, Tissue and Material Characterization, Signal Processing, Transducers and Arrays, Imaging Systems and Special Techniques.
Die Leitlinien fur die Psychopharmakotherapie entstan den im Rahmen der Qualitatssicherungsaktivitaten der Deutschen Gesellschaft fur Psychiatrie, Psychotherapie und Nervenheilkunde und wurden im Auftrag dieser Fachgesellschaft erstellt. Ziel war es, wichtige Gesichts punkte bei der Indikationsstellung, Auswahl, Dosierung und Therapiedurchfuhrung psychopharmakotherapeuti scher Interventionen im Sinne des "State of the Art," wie er in Deutschland unter Bezugnahme auf internatio nale Behandlungsstandards praktiziert werden sollte, darzustellen. Ausdriicklich konzentrieren sich die Leitlinien Psy chopharmakotherapie lediglich auf die Psychopharma kotherapie und lassen andere, haufig damit zu kom binierende Therapieformen aus. Das jeweilige therapeu tische Gesamtkonzept unter Einbeziehung psychophar makotherapeutischer und psychosozialer Behandlungs ansatze ergibt sich aus den Leitlinien fur die einzelnen Erkrankungen, die parallel dazu im Auftrag der DGPPN erstellt wurden. Die hier vorgelegten Leitlinien zur Psy chopharmakotherapie sollten, wenn man die Behand lung bestimmter Krankheiten im Auge hat, mit diesen krankheitsbezogenen Leitlinien zusammen benutzt wer den. Leider konnte eine volle Abstimmung mit den krankheitsbezogenen Leitlinien nicht erreicht werden, da, abgesehen von den Leitlinien Schizophrenie, diese noch nicht in der endgultigen Form vorlagen. Die Arbeitsgruppe hat sich im Wesentlichen von den Gesichtspunkten der "evidence based medicine" leiten VI Vorwort lassen, aber gleichzeitig den Zulassungsgegebenheiten in Deutschland Rechnung getragen. Hinsichtlich "evidence based medicine" wurde allerdings dem Vorliegen plaze bokontrollierter Studien nicht einseitig der Vorzug gege ben, sondern unter Beriicksichtigung der hohen Selek tion von Patienten in plazebokontrollierten Studien und der dadurch begrenzten Generalisierbarkeit - dies gilt B. bei Indikationen wie Manie - auch insbesondere z."
