This is a life story of a man who immigrated tothe U.S. in 1969 with a degree in engineering andsucceeded in building a business. I thought of writingmy unique experience due to my circumstances. Thetravel to the U.S. was very coincidental with no priorknowledge of the new country and no job offers.However, having worked at several firms for aroundtwelve years, I decided to start a company inengineering consultancy services in the State ofMaryland. The success came through lot of hardwork, God given ability and certainly lot of God'sblessing and at times several divine interventions.

This book charts how, once the Nazis came into power, Mammen instead created ‘degenerate’ paintings and collages, translated prohibited French literature and sculpted in clay and plaster—all while hidden away in her tiny studio apartment in the heart of Berlin’s fashionable west end. What was it like as a woman artist to produce modern art in Nazi Germany? Can artworks that were never exhibited in public still make valid claims to protest? Camilla Smith examines a wide range of Mammen’s dissenting artworks, ranging from those created in solitude during inner emigration to her collaboration with artist cabarets after the Second World War. Smith's engaging analysis compares Mammen's popular Weimar work to her artistic activities under the radar after 1933, in order to fundamentally rethink the moral complexities of inner emigration and its visual culture. The examination of Mammen’s life and work demonstrates the crucial role women artists played as both markers and agents of German modernity, but the double marginalisation they have nonetheless encountered as inner émigrés in recent history. In these notes some results are presented for the asymptotic behavior of the bootstrap procedure. Bootstrap is a procedure for estimating (approximating) the distribution of a statistic. It is based on resampling and simulations. It was been introduced in Efron (1979) and in the last decade it has been discussed for a wide variety of statistical problems. Introductory are the articles Efron and Gong (1983) and Efron and Tibshirani (1986) and the book Helmers (1991b). Many applications of bootstrap are discussed in Efron (1982). Survey articles are Beran (1984b), Hinkley (1988), and Diciccio and Romano (1988a). For many classical decision problems (testing and estimation problems, prediction, construction of confidence regions) bootstrap has been compared with classical approximations based on mathematical limit theorems and expansions (for instance normal approximations, empirical Edgeworth expansions) (see for instance Bretagnolle (1983) and Beran (1982, 1984a, 1987, 1988), Abramovitch and Singh (1985), and Hall (1986a, 1988) ). An asymptotic treatment of bootstrap is contained in the book Beran and Ducharme (1991). A detailed analysis of bootstrap based on higher- order Edgeworth expansions has been carried out in the book Hall (1992). Recent publications on bootstrap can also be found in the conference volumes LePage and Billard (1992) and Joeckel, Rothe, and Sendler (1992). We will consider the application of bootstrap in three contexts : estimation of smooth functionals, nonparametric curve estimation, and linear models. We do not attempt a complete description of bootstrap in these areas.
