Water Wave Scattering

The theory of water waves is most varied and is a fascinating topic. It includes a wide range of natural phenomena in oceans, rivers, and lakes. It is mostly concerned with elucidation of some general aspects of wave motion including the prediction of behaviour of waves in the presence of obstacles of some special configurations that are of interest to ocean engineers. Unfortunately, even the apparently simple problems appear to be difficult to tackle mathematically unless some simplified assumptions are made. Fortunately, one can assume water to be an incompressible, in viscid and homogeneous fluid. The linearised theory of water waves is based on the assumption that the amplitude of the motion is small compared to the wave length. If rotational motion is assumed, then the linearised theory of water waves is essentially concerned with solving the Laplace equation in the water region together with linearised boundary condition. There are varied classes of problems that have been/are being studied mathematically in the literature within the framework of linearised theory of water waves for last many years. Scattering by obstacles of various geometrical configurations is one such class of water wave problems. This book is devoted to advanced mathematical work related to water wave scattering. Emphasis is laid on the mathematical and computational techniques required to study these problems mathematically. The book contains nine chapters. The first chapter is introductory in nature. It includes the basic equations of linearised theory for a single layer fluid, a two-layer fluid, solution of dispersion equations, and a general idea on scattering problems and the energy identity in water with a free surface. Chapter 2 is concerned with wave scattering involving thin rigid plates of various geometrical configurations, namely, plane vertical barriers or curved barriers, inclined barriers, horizontal barrier, and also thin elastic vertical plate. For the horizontal case, the barrier is submerged below an ice-cover modelled as a thin elastic plate floating on water. Chapter 3 discusses wave scattering by a rectangular trench by using Galerkin technique. Chapter 4 involves wave scattering by a dock by using Carleman singular integral equation followed by reduction to Riemann-Hilbert problems. Chapter 5 involves several wave scattering problems involving discontinuities at the upper surface of water by using the Wiener-Hopf technique, by reduction to Carleman singular integral equations. Chapter 6 considers scattering by a long horizontal circular cylinder either half immersed or completely submerged. In chapter 7, some important energy identities are derived for scattering problems in a single-layer and also in a two-layer fluid. Chapter 8 is concerned with wave scattering in a two-layer fluid by a thin vertical plate and by a long horizontal circular cylinder submerged in either of the two layers. Chapter 9 is the final chapter which considers a number of wave scattering problems in a single-layer or a two-layer fluid with variable bottom topography by using a simplified perturbation analysisIt is hoped that this book will be useful to researchers on water waves. The several wave scattering problems presented in the book are mostly based on the research work carried out by the authors and their associates.

Welcome to A Souvenir Called LOVE, a story about Rishi and Nazma. Rishi Bose comes across Nazma, a carefree, sprightly girl in an Engineering college and their lives are never the same again. Despite the fact that they belonged to two different religions, they fall in love - proving the fact that true Love is blind and cannot be thought and manipulated. What follows next is a journey of love and struggle which takes them through several emotional ups and downs. Though junior, Nazma, a meritorious girl gets a job earlier than Rishi. However, she stands by his side with a positivity and determination which gives him the strength to overcome both his emotional and financial crisis. Rishi gets a steady job after four long years of leaving the college. They then try to convince their family members as they plan to get married. However, fate had something else in store for them. Will they be able to culminate their love to marriage? Or will they succumb to the ruthless pounces of fate? Has GOD written the destinies of Rishi and Nazma, such that they can never be joined together? Or will they remain together, forever? This is not an ordinary story - it is a Love Legend. This is a saga of love, separation, courage and sacrifice. A love that is divine, a love that is whole-hearted, a love that is completely consuming, a love that grows with separation and deepens with sacrifice.

In production and service sectors we often come across situations where females remain largely overshadowed by males both in terms of wages and productivity. Men are generally assigned jobs that require more physical work while the ‘less’ strenuous job is allocated to the females. However, the gender dimension of labor process in the service sector in India has remained relatively unexplored. There are certain activities in the service sector where females are more suitable than males. The service sector activities are usually divided into OAE and Establishments. In this work, an attempt has been made to segregate the productivity of females compared to that of males on the basis of both partial and complete separability models. An estimate has also been made of the female labor supply function. The results present a downward trend for female participation both in Own Account Enterprises (OAE) and Establishment. The higher the female shadow wage the lower their supply. This lends support to the supposition that female labor participation is a type of distress supply rather than a positive indicator of women’s empowerment. Analysis of the National Sample Service Organization data indicates that in all the sectors women are generally paid less than men. A micro-econometric study reveals that even in firms that employ solely female labor, incidence of full-time labor is deplorably poor. It is this feature that results in women workers’ lower earnings and their deprivation.

Khinjali Mandal Under the Bhanjas: A Study in Economic. Social and Political History
This work, based on epigraphic evidences (37 inscriptions), is a very humble attempt to study the social history of Khinjali mandala region under the rule of Bhanja dynasty in early medieval Odisha. All the inscriptions are donative in nature and they indicate land grants of virgin or forest area- leading to deforestation and subsequently extension of agricultural lands. This work depicts tribals' holistic integration to the Brahmanical order ---- viz a. economically, tribals were peasantised in the agrarian system, b. socially, they were incorporated in the brahmanical 4 fold varna system, c. politically, tribal egalitarianism was substituted by hierarchical monarchy and d. lastly, the religious autochthonous deity (Stambheshswari) was also integrated to the Brahmanical pantheon (cult of Jagannath).

The tribal women in India are hardworking and they contribute significantly towards their family income but their incom egenerating sources are limited. As the socio -economic progress of the community has a direct link with the empowerment of women, it has become one of the most important concerns of 21 st century and thus, the Government of Gujarat taken many initiatives to empower th e women of state economically and financially. In this, a concept of SHGs was takeninto an account and a new yojana named as "Sakhi Mandal" was launched on Feb. 2, 2007. Considering the importance of women empowerment in present context and role of this yojana in women empowerment the present investigation entitled, "Role of Sakhi Mandal in empowerment of tribal women in Navsari district" was undertaken during the year 2017-2018. 100 respondent tribal women were selected following simple random sampling me thod from ten selected villages of two selected talukas from Navsari district.

WHEN THE TITLE OF THE BOOK IS SO INTRIGUING, YOU EXPECT A LOT FROM THE BOOK ITSELF. ONCE YOU GET OVER THE INTRIGUE FACTOR OF THE TITLE, YOU FIND THAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT A BOOK CLUB FORMED IN THE TOWN OF GUERNSEY WHICH IS THE ONLY BRITISH LAND OCCUPIED BY THE GERMANS DURING WORLD WAR 2. THE NAME OF THE BOOK CLUB IS 'THE GUERNSEY LITERARY AND POTATO PEEL PIE SOCIETY'. (MY FINGERS ACHE ) THERE IS AN INTERESTING STORY BEHIND WHY THE CLUB WAS NAMED THAT WAY AND I THINK YOU SHOULD READ THE BOOK FOR THAT. THE BOOK STARTS WITH JULIET ASHTON CELEBRATING THE SUCCESS OF HER LATEST BOOK AND SEARCHING FOR A TOPIC FOR HER NEXT BOOK. SHE GETS AN UNEXPECTED LETTER FROM DAWSEY ADAMS FROM GUERNSEY WHO HAS A COPY OF HER OLD AND ABANDONED BOOK "THE SELECTED ESSAYS OF ELIA" BY CHARLES LAMB. DAWSEY CONTACTS HER WISHING TO KNOW WHERE HE CAN FIND MORE BOOKS FROM THE SAME AUTHOR. DAWSEY HAPPENS TO BE A MEMBER OF THE BOOK CLUB AND THUS STARTS JULIET'S INTERACTION WITH THE OTHER MEMBERS OF THE BOOK CLUB. JULIET FINDS THE CLUB AND ITS SURVIVAL DURING THE OCCUPATION VERY ENGAGING AND DECIDES TO EXPLORE FURTHER IF IT CAN BE TURNED INTO A BOOK. WE SEE JULIET LANDING IN GUERNSEY AND MEETING OTHER PEOPLE ON THE ISLAND TO COLLECT THEIR VERSION OF THE OCCUPATION. THE ENTIRE BOOK IS WRITTEN IN THE FORM OF LETTERS. WE SEE LETTERS BEING EXCHANGED BETWEEN ALL THE CHARACTERS AND THIS GIVES A DIFFERENT STRUCTURE TO THE BOOK. THERE IS NO SINGLE OMNIPOTENT NARRATOR AND EACH CHARACTER TAKES TURN TO NARRATE THE STORY AND THOUGH THIS IS SOME FORM OF OMNIPOTENCE, IT INTRODUCES ITS OWN SET OF COMPLEXITIES. THERE ARE MANY PLACES WHERE A CHARACTER WOULD NOT INCLUDE CERTAIN THINGS IN THE LETTER, BUT SINCE THIS IS INTENDED FOR A READER, THE AUTHOR HAD TO INCLUDE IT. THERE IS A LETTER FROM JULIET TO SIDNEY ABOUT A GIFT THAT HE SENT. DEAR SIDNEY, WHAT AN INSPIRED PRESENT YOU SENT KIT - RED SATIN TAP SHOES COVERED WITH SEQUINS IT'S OBVIOUS THE AUTHOR INCLUDED THIS BECAUSE THERE IS NO OTHER WAY THE READER WOULD HAVE KNOWN WHAT GIFT SIDNEY SENT, BUT IF JULIET WAS ACTUALLY WRITING THIS LETTER, SHE WOULD NOT HAVE INCLUDED THIS DETAIL. SINCE THE MAIN ESSENCE OF THE BOOK IS THE IDEA OF LETTERS BEING SENT BY A GROUP OF PEOPLE IN AN UNKNOWN ISLAND TO A WRITER, I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY THE AUTHOR CHOSE HER ENTIRE BOOK TO BE IN THE FORM OF LETTERS. BUT TACTLESS INCLUSION OF DETAILS LIKE ABOVE (THE AUTHOR COULD HAVE INCLUDED THE DETAIL IN A SMARTER WAY) MAKES YOU CLICK YOUR TONGUE AND DISTRACTS YOU FROM THE STORY. I PERSONALLY FOUND THE STRUCTURE UNAPPEALING. TO KEEP TRACK OF WHO SENT THE LETTER TO WHOM AND WHEN WAS A BIG PROBLEM FOR ME. I HAVE READ SIMILAR STRUCTURED BOOKS BEFORE (WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN), BUT THIS BOOK IS PARTICULARLY TAXING BECAUSE OF THE SHORT LETTERS AND TOO MANY CHARACTERS. AFTER A POINT OF TIME, I WANTED TO SCREAM 'FORGET THE LETTERS, JUST GET ON WITH THE STORY'. CHARACTERS - THERE IS NO DEARTH IN THIS BOOK. THERE ARE CHARACTERS IN ALL FORMS - GENDER, RACE, NATIONALITY, QUIRKS, NATURE, AGE. ONE CHARACTER THAT STOOD OUT FOR ME WAS ELIZABETH MCKENNA. THE IRONY IS SHE DOESN'T APPEAR IN THE BOOK BUT IS ONLY MENTIONED BY THE OTHER CHARACTERS AND THIS ADDS A BIT OF MYSTERY TO HER. ISOLA ALSO SPRINGS TO MY MIND AS AN INTERESTING CHARACTER. THE PROTAGONISTS THOUGH LEAVE A LOT TO BE DESIRED. MARY ANN SHAFFER STARTED WRITING THIS BOOK AND HAD TO ROPE IN HER NIECE ANNIE BARROWS TO COMPLETE IT BECAUSE MARY WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER. SHE DIDN'T LIVE TO CELEBRATE THE SUCCESS OF HER BOOK. IT'S A CHARMING LITTLE BOOK, AS THE ENGLISH WOULD CALL IT, BUT I DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING EXTRAORDINARY IN IT. YES, THERE ARE SOME GOOD THINGS IN THE BOOK, BUT I DON'T THINK YOU WOULD MISS ANYTHING BY NOT READING IT. I WOULDN'T STOP SOMEONE FROM PICKING IT UP, BUT WHY WASTE TIME ON THIS WHEN YOU HAVE BETTER BOOKS TO READ, EH? PS: OSCAR WILDE APPEARS AS A CHARACTER IN THIS BOOK, BUT I CANNOT REVEAL MORE
