Controlled Epidemiological Studies

Controlled Epidemiological Studies

Marie Reilly

TAYLOR FRANCIS LTD

sidottu
This book covers classic epidemiological designs that use a reference/control group, including case-control, case-cohort, nested case-control and variations of these designs, such as stratified and two-stage designs. It presents a unified view of these sampling designs as representations of an underlying cohort or target population of interest. This enables various extended designs to be introduced and analysed with a similar approach: extreme sampling on the outcome (extreme case-control design) or on the exposure (exposure-enriched, exposure-density, countermatched), designs that re-use prior controls and augmentation sampling designs. Further extensions exploit aggregate data for efficient cluster sampling, accommodate time-varying exposures and combine matched and unmatched controls. Self-controlled designs, including case-crossover, self-controlled case series and exposure-crossover, are also presented. The test-negative design for vaccine studies and the use of negative controls for bias assessment are introduced and discussed. This book is intended for graduate students in biostatistics, epidemiology and related disciplines, or for health researchers and data analysts interested in extending their knowledge of study design and data analysis skills. This book Bridges the gap between epidemiology and the more mathematically oriented biostatistics books. Assembles the wealth of epidemiological knowledge about observational study designs that is scattered over several decades of scientific publications. Illustrates the performance of methods in real research applications. Provides guidelines for implementation in standard software packages (Stata, R).Includes numerous exercises, covering simple mathematical proofs, consideration of proposed or published designs, and practical data analysis.

When was the last time you sat in Nature, listened to the wind whisper in your ear, watched the butterflies meander by, smelled the scent of the forest, and felt the crunch of the leaves beneath your feet? For Frances Marie, engaging her senses in this way inspired her to write poetry on the relationship she formed with Mother Nature. This chapbook of poems explores that connection and the journey of heart she took to create it.

This audit pulls together all of Cambridge Strategy Publications' other HR audits.Use it to measure the real importance of your HR function. This audit is not designed to threaten or 'call to account' the HR function - there will inevitably be areas where it is performing well and areas where it is not. Instead, it is designed to highlight: - Those responsibilities of the HR function where more time and resources should be focused- Times when the organisation should involve the HR function more closely in strategic planning or in the implementation of its strategy- New and beneficial ways of structuring or restructuring the HR function- Ways in which information, skills and knowledge available to the HR function can be more widely used and shared- New responsibilities which the HR function should take on, and others which it may be able to pass to other functions, line managers, teams or individual staff. Finally, the audit outlines ways of monitoring the performance of the HR function and how it compares against other organisations. Part 3 of the audit suggests dozens of tried-and-tested questions that will help the audit team reach well-informed conclusions and present clear recommendations for change.

In a world where magic flows through ancient ley lines and dragons are family, an unusual group of friends comes together to uncover clues to a mysterious disappearance that occurred during their youth. As they embark on this journey, they discover the true nature of the ley lines and their importance to the entire world. Together, this extraordinary group takes on a big corporation bent on controlling the ley lines for their own nefarious reasons, a thief that eludes even the craftiest of traps and the secrets of what happened during the Great Disappearing. "The Guardians of the Ley Lines" is a tale of friendship and adventure. It explores the battle between the magic of the natural world and corporate greed, challenging the fine line between light and darkness. Will their wisdom, determination, and humour be enough to save the ley lines? Will they uncover the real truth of what happened to their loved ones?

This book examines how gendered agency emerges in peacebuilding contexts. It develops a feminist critique of the international peacebuilding interventions, through a study of transitional justice policies and practices implemented in Bosnia & Herzegovina, and local activists’ responses to official discourses surrounding them. Extending Nancy Fraser’s tripartite model of justice to peacebuilding contexts, the book also advances notions of recognition, redistribution and representation as crucial components of gender-just peace. It argues that recognising women as victims and survivors of conflict, achieving a gender-equitable distribution of material and symbolic resources, and enabling women to participate as agents of transitional justice processes, are all essential for transforming the structural inequalities that enable gender violence and discrimination to materialise before, during, and after conflict. This study establishes a new avenue of analysis for understanding responsesand resistances to international peacebuilding, by offering a sustained engagement with feminist social and political theory.
