Welcome to the country of daydreams... "Extraction Lyrique" is a series of Award winning Fine Art Photographs harvested since 2007, a testimony of discoveries made in nature. Through this "Extraction Lyrique" I am most happy to present some of my recent works, a series of abstract photographs. My images are pure discoveries and experimental artworks. You are invited to inspect them closely and let yourself discover the inner travels they may inspire. These photographs are a collaboration between my efficient camera and my artist's eye and they catch an instant in time. Courtesy of these pictures, I wish to lead you to the unknown, to a new and different vision. Actually, Art took me on several "round the world" trips since a decade, and courtesy to these many exhibits, I also had the pleasure to start shooting this collection of amazing Abstract Photographs: dozens of surprising pics were first harvested in New Zealand on 2007; then this series continued in France, Mexico, and the US, among other countries, until recently. These pictures are all representative of reality, a testimony of discoveries made in nature. It allows the viewer to embark on an imaginary voyage and complete the artwork in their own way. No graphics editing software is used to create or compose these pictures; only the artist's eye and serendipity are necessary. My camera is also the essential and perfect tool to capture, record and as faithfully as possible relay these images - communicating to us as many messages that hold the secret keys allowing access to Imaginary Voyages to which Dante refers in his Divine comedy or even Christine de Pizan in Le livre du chemin de longue estude. Christian Heck also has made an elegant case for Imaginary Voyages, as already described in the Middle Ages and appearing under the image of The celestial scale. It is only after much soul searching, some trudging along and feeling my way through the dark, after extensive research, making amazing discoveries, chance meetings and many other life experiences, at times happy and at times not, that I finally honed a finer and clearer definition of art for myself. Along with an increasingly curious and serendipitously proficient eye, and having become jaded by the day to day grind of our "adult world", I developed a thirst for serenity, such as only it can be found in nature, as well as a deep yearning for the simple, laughing, carefree world of childhood as it is perhaps to us only attainable in daydreams. Thus are the makings, the leaven and the ingredients that through me have served to concoct these wonderful tidbits for which it gives me great pleasure to share them with you in the following pages if you will, "as a feast amongst friends" I invite you to partake freely in this "Photographic harvest" so that maybe you too may "float on cloud nine". The keys to freedom may just be there in these magical images, escape awaits: look, see, dream, create and become children again as in simpler times Like as many witnesses to its existence, my images' purpose is to restore The seventh face of the die which Josef Sudek discusses in this great creator's yet little known, unsigned and undedicated key work on the path to dreams and for which it can be justly said as Ernest Haas would have it: Its colors express themselves and inherently give rise to emotions. However, in keeping with Moholy's concept of True Photography, I have neither tried to influence or to disturb the images so as to preserve the purity of the daydream into which the observer is drawn. I therefore refuse to attribute either figurative or suggestive titles to my images, by the same token refusing to direct the observer's attention in any way. Only classification references may appear in coded language, devoid of any imaginary meaning. That's how my Abstract Photography series was born that I called "Extraction Lyrique" they are like keys that open the world of imaginary travels.

Teachers, Gender and the Feminisation Debate
Teachers, Gender and the Feminisation Debate critically engages with the claim that teaching is a feminised profession and offers a comprehensive and authoritative analysis of the way gender and power play out in the lives of male and female teachers. Informed by social constructivist, feminist theories of work and education, the book adopts a relational and intersectional approach to gender.Drawing on a range of primary and secondary sources, including national and international datasets, policy and research texts, and an original corpus of interviews conducted by the author in England and France, the book provides a timely assessment of a view of teaching as feminised. It explores the various discourses and debates about the feminisation of teaching which circulate in media and policy circles in a range of local, national and international contexts, and questions some of the claims underpinning these discourses. It also analyses the experiences of men and women who teach, looking at the way gender and power impact on their careers and private lives in the context of the feminisation debate.Teachers, Gender and the Feminisation Debate offers a research-informed and comprehensive account of gender issues in the teaching profession and will be of great interest to academics, researchers and postgraduate students in the fields of education, sociology and gender studies.

The most comprehensive and best-illustrated history of watercolour painting ever published. The term watercolour calls to mind atmosphere, luminosity, and immediacy - qualities that derive directly from the quick-drying, translucent nature of water-based pigments. In Watercolor: A History, Louvre curator Marie-Pierre Salé provides an authoritative and beautifully illustrated account of this versatile and widely beloved artistic medium. Salé's incisive text traces the development of watercolour from the 13th to the 20th century in Europe and the United States, encompassing every type of work - from plein-air sketches to finished studio pieces - and a wide variety of artists. Here are Dürer's detailed animal studies, Turner's landscapes, Cézanne's tireless explorations, Sargent's light-dappled sketches, O'Keeffe's pioneering abstractions. This handsome volume features more than 300 full-colour illustrations, specially printed on Munken paper to capture the vibrancy and texture of the original works. It is sure to be welcomed by art historians and art lovers alike.

This new biography of Francis Jeanson follows the existential philosopher and political activist from his birth in 1922 to his participation in a government "cultural action" program in the late 1960s and '70s. As a young man, Jeanson escaped German-occupied France and joined the Resistance army in Africa. After the war, he pursued a career in France as a writer, philosopher (he was the "chosen disciple" of Jean-Paul Sartre), and editor at the Editions du Seuil. During the French-Algerian War, Jeanson founded the Jeanson Network, which collected and transported funds to support the Algerian side in the conflict. He and members of his network were tried and convicted of breaching the security of the state, but Jeanson was eventually reintegrated into French society. His participation in that historical moment and in controversies both philosophical and political that continue to rage today make for a compelling and pertinent read.

Alexander I was a ruler with high aspirations for the people of Russia. Cosseted as a young grand duke by Catherine the Great, he ascended to the throne in 1801 after the brutal assassination of his father. In this magisterial biography, Marie-Pierre Rey illuminates the complex forces that shaped Alexander's tumultuous reign and sheds brilliant new light on the handsome ruler known to his people as "the Sphinx." Despite an early and ambitious commitment to sweeping political reforms, Alexander saw his liberal aspirations overwhelmed by civil unrest in his own country and by costly confrontations with Napoleon, which culminated in the French invasion of Russia and the burning of Moscow in 1812. Eventually, Alexander turned back Napoleon's forces and entered Paris a victor two years later, but by then he had already grown weary of military glory. As the years passed, the tsar who defeated Napoleon would become increasingly preoccupied with his own spiritual salvation, an obsession that led him to pursue a rapprochement between the Orthodox and Roman churches. When in exile, Napoleon once remarked of his Russian rival: "He could go far. If I die here, he will be my true heir in Europe." It was not to be. Napoleon died on Saint Helena and Alexander succumbed to typhus four years later at the age of forty-eight. But in this richly nuanced portrait, Rey breathes new life into the tsar who stood at the center of the political chessboard of early nineteenth-century Europe, a key figure at the heart of diplomacy, war, and international intrigue during that region's most tumultuous years.
