German Vocabulary Course (Learn German with the Michel Thomas Method)
'I will build the foundation of the house, but it's up to you to decorate it.' Michel ThomasExperience significant results in a remarkably short period of time thanks to the unique Michel Thomas Method, perfected over 50 years by celebrated psycholinguist Michel Thomas. The method works in tune with how the brain prefers to receive, store and then retrieve information. You'll stick with it, because you'll love it.* Improve your German naturally and unforgettably, without strain* Learn from listening and speaking, without the pressure of writing or memorizing* Build up your German in manageable steps by thinking out answers for yourselfHow does it work?Learning vocabulary is notoriously difficult if attempted in the traditional way - with long lists and hours of memorization. With the Michel Thomas Method, new words and phrases are presented in such a way that they cannot be forgotten. In this five-hour phase-two course, Michel Thomas Method teacher Marion O'Dowd introduces over 1,000 carefully chosen 'power words,' including verbs and everyday phrases. Learning alongside two genuine students, you will exponentially build up your vocabulary by unlocking what you already know. What's new? This new edition includes remastered audio and comes in new, eco-friendly recyclable packaging. Why is it so successful? 'What you understand, you know; and what you know, you don't forget.' - Michel ThomasMichel Thomas believed that the greatest barrier to any form of learning was stress: stress from worrying about remembering what you are being taught, stress from being afraid to make a mistake, stress from failing. With the Michel Thomas Method, all the attention is focused on removing stress and tension from the learning environment. The teacher takes on full responsibility for your understanding, and therefore your remembering, of what is being taught. In fact, the Michel Thomas Method forbids you from trying to memorize. There's no writing, no books, no homework. The Michel Thomas Method works by stripping away all inessential language and breaking down the most important language into its component parts. Crystal-clear building blocks are then presented, and only when they are absorbed and understood is the next piece of the puzzle introduced, enabling you to reconstruct the language for yourself - to form your own sentences, to say what you want, when you want. What's in the Course?*German Vocabulary Course comprises 5 course CDs. The booklet is available to download from www.michelthomas.com.*Note that the course content is the same as the previously entitled German Vocabulary Builder+ course, but does not include a CD-ROM.Learn anywhereMichel Thomas Method audio courses let you learn whenever you want: at home, in your car, or on the move. The audio CDs are MP3-compatible.What learners are sayingI experienced the same sort of pleasure that you got from suddenly getting a crossword clue right or cracking a code...the finger-snapping moment of, Oh My God! I've just understood what you've said to me in Spanish or you've just understood me! -Peter LØVSTRØM , Actor, 2017I've used Michel Thomas to get off the starting block for French, Italian and Spanish and I'm always surprised by how much I can say after only a few hours of listening. The Michel Thomas Italian course organises verbs into logical groups which helps you pick them up fast. And perhaps more importantly, it shows you how to use this grammar to build useful sentences. -Katie from Joyoflanguages.com

Using clear, easy-to-understand language, this book offers professionals a wealth of information on how to develop effective partnerships with parents of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Topics covered include how to be more sensitive to families' needs, how to make one's assumptions cohere with families' assumptions, and how best to approach controversial topics in treatment and research. The book is divided into three sections. The first section lays out some of the confusions in communication that can occur between professionals and parents. The second section explores situations during which parents and professionals have opportunities to build strong working relationships on behalf of children with ASD. Finally, the third section treats the sensitive topic of how professionals may best help families cope with the short- and long-term concerns that arise with ASD.

This collection features three peer-reviewed reviews on managing arthropod pests in cereals. The first chapter discusses key arthropod pests of cereals, including Hessian fly, orange wheat blossom midge, bird cherry oat aphid, greenbug, Russian wheat aphid, sunn pest, wheat stem sawfly and wheat curl mite. The chapter provides a detailed case study for each arthropod pest, exploring the pest’s life cycle, its host plants and status as a wheat pest, best practices for managing populations, as well as our current understanding of plant susceptibility and plant resistance. The second chapter highlights the economic importance of corn/maize to the United States economy, citing that around 37.7 million hectares of land was used to grow the crop in 2021. As a result of its economic contribution, farmers are required to have an informed understanding of important pest species affecting the crop. The chapter considers recent advances in monitoring of native and invasive pests of corn and includes case studies on the European corn borer, corn earworm, western bean cutworm and corn rootworm to demonstrate the effective implementation of insect pest monitoring systems. The final chapter reviews the recent emergence of the Fescue aphid/grass aphid as an invasive pest of small grains outside of its native range of western Europe and the British Isles. The chapter considers the biology and management of the pest, its appearance and identification, its pest status and damage, as well as its potential for host plant resistance.

This collection features five peer-reviewed literature reviews on nematode pests in agriculture. The first chapter assesses the value and impact of using integrated pest management (IPM) to combat nematode pests. It summarises the basic biology and morphology of the most economically-important nematode pests and reviews cultural, biological and chemical methods of control. The second chapter discusses advances in understanding plant root response to nematode attack. It highlights how nematodes form feeding structures in host roots and how this behaviour has allowed plants to evolve new mechanisms of resistance that target this structure with a toxic response. The third chapter discusses key nematode pests of wheat, including cereal cyst, root-knot and root-lesion nematodes. It features research on best practice in detecting and managing these pests effectively. The fourth chapter summarises what we know about soil and plant nematodes damaging maize, including lesion, root-knot and vermiform nematodes. It reviews research on characteristics, identification and effects which provide the foundation for effective control. The final chapter describes the characteristics and control of key nematode pests of potatoes: potato cyst nematodes, root knot nematodes, root lesion nematode, potato rot and stem nematodes as well as virus vector nematodes.

This collection features four peer-reviewed literature reviews on mite pests in agriculture. The first chapter offers a holistic approach to integrated mite management by reviewing the basics of mite taxonomy and morphology. It studies the key plant mite families, focussing on major plant feeding mites (Tetranychidae, Tarsonemidae, Eriophyoidea), as well as the natural predators that regulate these mite populations. The second chapter explores the cultural, biological and chemical control tactics available for controlling major plant feeding mites. These tactics include: choosing tolerant varieties and weed management. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the debate surrounding the best form of control for mite pests in agriculture. The third chapter highlights the importance of understanding the bio-ecology of Tetranychidae species affecting tomato crops, including the two-spotted spider mite, carmine spider mite and red spider mite. The chapter considers the effects of each pest on tomato plants, as well as how best to control them. The final chapter details the ecology of mite pests affecting wheat that belong to the Eriophyoidea family, such as gall mites and wheat curl mites. The chapter discusses the various forms of control for managing Eriophyid mites, as well as the development of new resistant varieties of wheat.
