Se determin la composici n y estructura del ensamble de aves presente en el bosque de Sierra Las Damas, para ello se utiliz el m todo estandarizado de muestreo por itinerario de censo con bandas transeptos. La comunidad de aves que se encuentra en el rea de estudio est constituida por 52 especies, 44 g neros, 26 familias y 13 rdenes de la clase Aves. Del total nueve son end micas, 18 migratorias invernales, cinco migratorias estivales y 39 cr an en Cuba. De ellas, 49 son comunes y tres raras. Respecto a los gremios tr ficos, predominan las especies gran voras. Las especies dominantes num ricas fueron Tomeguin de la Tierra y Bien-te-veo, que muestran explosiones postreproductivas en per odo lluvioso. La ornitocenosis asociada al bosque de Sierra Las Damas es estable e interesante, pues alcanza valores elevados para los indices ecol gicos.
