I boken medverkar även seniora forskare. Dokumentation i förskolan.

Printed matters: merkitysten kerroksia -kirjan seitsemän kirjoittajaa pohtivat artikkeleissaan taidegrafiikan olomuotoja.
Originally published in 1941 and the inspiration of the movie starring Ava Gardner, a portrait of a post-Depression American family follows the Veeches in their small midwestern hometown throughout the course of a scorching summer, a period marked by poverty, family conflicts, and neighborhood scandals. Reprint. 20,000 first printing.
Originally published in 1942 to rave reviews and astonishing commercial success, Night Shift dramatizes the working class life of the Midwest during World War II with the excitement of melodrama, the vividness of documentary, and the page-turning quality of the best commercial fiction.Sally Otis works herself to the bone as a waitress, supporting her three children and a jobless younger sister. With her bills mounting and no rest in sight, Sally's resolve is beginning to crumble when her swaggering older sister, Petey Braun, appears on the scene. Petey, with her furs and jewels and exotic trips, is an American career woman--one who makes a career of men. But when Petey gets a gig at the glamorous, rowdy local nightclub, it will forever alter the world of the struggling Otis family. Night Shift "manages to be touching and horrible, sentimental and brutal all at the same time. It is both sordidly real and theatrically melodramatic. It's good" (New York Times).
Doctor's Choice helps overwhelmed doctors discover the crucial steps they need to take to get clarity and find balance. Often, doctors’ relationships and health suffer due to excessive work-related stress and demands—sometimes even driving them to quit their practice. Is it even possible to be a doctor and also live a happy, stress-free life? Dr. Maritta Philp had been working as a doctor for over 20 years before the intensity and stress of modern medical practice inspired her to take a long, hard look at where the road she was on would lead. She realized the final destination for her would be one of burn-out and resentment, causing her to make different choices for her life and career. Maritta is passionate about enabling people to create a life they can be in love with, a life that reflects their most important ideas and values. Doctor's Choice explores in a no-nonsense manner the issues affecting today's doctors in a world of ever-increasing patient demand. Balancing the need to look after patients and themselves is a challenge which doctors need to meet for the benefit of all.
Bull cults are ancient, but they never ended well for the animals with one exception: the wild black bull of the Camargue is at the heart of a unique niche culture which leaves them alive and adored well into their old age. Intelligent, extremely agile and aggressive, they perform in thrilling games, the courses camarguaises, in dozens of arenas. Here young men risk their lives trying to pick tiny trophies tied between the horns of the bull – who will defend his crown by chasing his opponents across the sand and beyond. Under the Black Bull’s Hooves is their story. Over many centuries, poetry and songs, novels and festivities, even politics evolved around these legendary animals who can never be tamed. Locals, usually reluctant to allow strangers into their tribal cosmos, helped to create this personal account. It is a declaration of love, describing the passionate, often quirky personalities of men and beast alike, their history, the sadness and the joy of individual events in a mysterious world so close and yet so hidden. The Camargue and its wild riches of nature would cease to exist without the black bulls.

Seminar paper from the year 1998 in the subject American Studies - Linguistics, grade: 1 (A), Ruhr-University of Bochum (English Seminar), course: Seminar: Introduction to african-american Literature, 4 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Introduction In this essay we are going to deal with Black American English and its specific features and differences to Standard English. The analysis includes an introduction to the grammar of BAE, its specific vocabulary, the African elements in BAE and the ethnographic speech behaviour connected with the use of BAE. At the beginning a short survey will be given on who actually speaks BAE. 1. Who speaks Black American English? In general, we can say that all those speak BAE (= Black American English) who consider themselves to be Black. Those are 80% of the Black American population. But also some Puerto Ricans and members of the southern plantation owning class do use this language. In former times BAE was also used by some Indian tribes and Seminoles. The dialect patterns depend on social factors rather than racial or geographic. Many people are capable of several dialects, and also some Whites do speak those dialects. The history of the Afro-American languages correlates with a caste system. The use of BAE indicates a low level of education as well as a low social standard. It indicates that the speaker belongs to a social group that has remained unassimilated to the white culture. Rich black families tend to speak Standard English. In the use of Standard English among Blacks agegrading plays a great role. First the children adopt the language they learn in their peer groups, later on they learn Standard English in school. The age-grading towards Standard English is closely connected with status grading, i.e. children of families with a higher social level tend to the use of Standard English. The higher a Black climbs on the social ladder the more he tends to Standard English. In general, women find it e

Seminar paper from the year 1998 in the subject American Studies - Literature, grade: 2 (B), Ruhr-University of Bochum (English Seminar), course: Literatur III, 5 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Introduction This essay is going to deal with telling and writing as a means of liberation in the novel The Color Purple. Liberation in this context means, of course, women's liberation. The paper comprises the analysis of the protagonist's motivation for writing, its effects on her and the significance of different dialects. Furthermore the effects of the literary form of the letter as means of articulation will be explained and also the influence of Shug and her feminist language on Celie. Motivation for writing Already at the opening of the novel a reason for Celie's writing is given.: You better not tell anybody but God. It'd kill your mammy.1 Celie takes this warning literally. She is frightened of her father and therefore obeys. Another motivation for Celie's writing we get to know from one of Nettie's letters to Celie: ...I remember one time you said your life made you feel so ashamed you couldn't even talk about it to God, you had to write it, bad as you thought your writing was. Well, now I know what you meant.2 Celie feels guilty and ashamed, because of the alleged incest with her father. She is not allowed to tell anybody (certainly not her mother) but needs to articulate herself somehow to enable herself to cope with her situation. So Celie starts to write her letters to God, when at the age of 14 years her record of sorrow and pain begins. Celie loses her mother and later on also Nettie, her sister. From then on writing becomes even more significant, for it is also a substitute for the mother's and sister's missing love.3 1 Walker, Alice; The Color Purple, London, 1992.
