Ed Ruscha: Tom Sawyer Paintings documents the 2022 exhibition of ten new paintings and a new hologram at Gagosian Paris. The exhibition brought together naturalistic paintings of simple wooden slats, which at once represent a new direction in Ruscha s work and extend his long-standing interest in realism, modernist abstraction, and the American vernacular. The catalogue includes plate photography of the ten paintings and one hologram as well as installation views of the exhibition. Ed Ruscha was born in 1937 in Omaha, Nebraska and lives and works in Los Angeles. A career-spanning retrospective, ED RUSCHA/NOW THEN, will open at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in September 2023 and travel to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in April 2024. Since 1993, Gagosian has presented twenty-five major exhibitions of Ruscha s work in the United States and Europe. New, illustrated essays by Mark Godfrey and Ralph Rugoff, offering critical and historical contexts for the work, are included in this bilingual English and French catalogue.
We become like the river reflected, both light and dark. Struggling artist Sylvia is offered an unusual commission by the mysterious Victor, acting on behalf of a secret sponsor, who wants to engage her for a year to produce art depicting the Holocaust. She accepts the project on trust and discovers an enigmatic thirteen-year-old girl, Nina, who becomes her model and pupil. As the months pass, Sylvia begins to unravel the truth about Victor, the secret sponsor and Nina, while unearthing more about history and identity than she was ever prepared for. A family drama that champions the structures and beliefs that underpin a civilised society, The River Reflects faces the darkest shadows of human nature. With the Thames winding relentlessly through this compelling story, Sylvia, Victor, Nina and those around them progress from fear and isolation to seek love and fortitude and the redemptive power of the human spirit.
The first and only monograph to give a comprehensive examination of acclaimed American artist Sarah Sze's painting practice Since the late 1990s, Sarah Sze has developed a signature visual language that challenges the static nature of art with a dynamic body of work spanning sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, video and installation. In recent years, Sze has returned to painting, the medium in which she was first trained. Comprising constellations of painted and collaged elements, her expansive abstract landscapes explore a visual world that is constantly evolving, degrading, and generating new ways of seeing. Her paintings are highly sought-after and are held in the permanent collections of prominent institutions and museums worldwide. The book includes two essays by Mark Godfrey and Tina Pang that explore Sze's influences and her working process, plus an interview between the artist and Madeleine Grynsztejn, that expands on the theoretical underpinnings of her painting practice. With each copy numbered and hand signed by the artist, this exquisitely illustrated luxury volume, packaged in a cloth-wrapped slipcase, was created in close collaboration with Sze, and is the first monograph devoted to her painting practice.

Sumptuous wallpaper installations in conversation with Van Gogh's final worksThis catalog brings together works by Los Angeles-based artist Laura Owens (born 1970) and seven paintings by Vincent van Gogh, painted in the last years of his life. Confined to her studio in Arles during the months of lockdown in 2020, Owens immersed herself in the life and works of Van Gogh, a process which left traces of his sensibilities in the commissioned work that followed. Transforming the space of the Fondation Vincent van Gogh in Arles, Owens created a monumental wallpaper using various handcrafted and digital techniques. The motifs of these rooms, which draw a suspended universe between the premodern and the contemporary, are inspired by the works of the English designer Winifred How, and enter into a close dialogue with Van Gogh's paintings, which are hung on the elaborately adorned walls.

Kerry James Marshall: The Histories is the most extensive publication on the artist to date, celebrating half a century of his work. It reveals the complex ways in which he has transformed histories of Western painting, centering Black bodies in ambitious compositions set in barber shops, public housing projects, parks, and beauty salons. It charts his use of portraiture to memorialise individuals such as Nat Turner, Harriet Tubman, and Olaudah Equiano. A new series, illustrated here for the first time, looks at under-acknowledged aspects of the history of Africa. With lavish illustrations of all the works in the accompanying exhibition, it also includes chapters on Marshall’s Rythm Mastr project and his various public commissions including his stained glass windows for the cathedral in Washington D.C.. A survey by Mark Godfrey is accompanied by shorter essays by Aria Dean, Darby English, Madeleine Grynsztejn, Cathérine Hug, Nikita Sena Quarshie, Rebecca Zorach, and an interview between Kerry James Marshall and Benjamin H.D. Buchloh.

Duty, honor, and loyalty will be put to the ultimate test.Mark Howard brings us an epic coming-of-age fantasy tale about duty, honor, and loyalty in a life-or-death stakes struggle for the realm. As the battles rage in a mysterious world that echoes J.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth, the true test for the young knight isn't proving his bravery or vanquishing his foes - it's realizing his own potential as a leader.A military crusade is called to aid the Kingdom of Azgald in the distant Nordslands, and Godfrey, a young and idealistic knight, doesn't hesitate to volunteer for the noble quest. Yet, he soon learns that the greatest threat is not the swords of savage clans under the High Warlord Alvir and the dark magic of the High Witch of the North, Nera, but the crusaders themselves."This skilled story has everything a fantasy reader could ask for: monsters (human and otherwise), intrigue, romance, and the quest for true knighthood. It is highly recommended." -- Blue Ink Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐A knight's destiny is determined by his adventures. His character is determined by the trials he faces along the way.Godfrey de Bastogne has much to prove when he answers the call to embark on an adventure to save the realm to the north from old enemies that have united against them. The expedition's success against the mythical creatures and clansmen does not hinge on strategy, tactics, or victorious battles but on a vision granted to him by the gods. Flanked by soldiers, knights, loyal friends, and his love interest, Madeline, who is hiding her magical powers, he must stop his foes from unleashing an ancient evil on the land...or die trying. Now a veteran of fateful struggles and epic military clashes, all eyes turn to the hero Godfrey as the chosen one to fulfill the prophecy by delivering them victory in their quest. With the fate of Azgald hanging in the balance, can he succeed in uniting the crusaders with his holy blade, or will the political intrigue, egos, and self-interest of the bickering factions be too much to overcome in the face of almost impossible odds?"This fast-moving classic fantasy brings appealing life to a familiar tapestry."-- Book Life ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐"This is a brilliant and sprawling adventure that will appeal to fans of fantasy that is heavy on magic and noble quests, for a stellar first entry in the series." -- Self-Publishing Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Scriptures is full of codes which have been placed for human identification and gain. The problem often is that man does not always have the resources to unlock these codes. While acquisition of the keys to these codes is within human grasp, most men have not disposed themselves to seeking the truth of the Lord God and getting the corresponding benefit that is promised man. Much of the time, we read the genealogies of Bible characters with the lethargy of reading a very uninteresting subject. Much of the time we glance past many of these, convinced there is nothing relevant in them for the modern man. However, there is a lot to learn and to uncover in the Bible. Some of the greatest secrets and the most sought after secrets are actually cached in the supposed boring genealogies. The Scriptures is replete with numbers. Often, these numbers have overwhelming value and significance. One number that has continued to hold a mysterious grip on many, and defy explication is the number 666. There can be no doubt that numbers in the Scriptures need to be studied. Numbers are signs. A survey of signs of the Lord, easily reveal that most signs of the Lord God are revealed to the beneficiaries, being almost always the people that the signs are meant for. Thus studying a number or group of numbers should not be limited to scholastic approach. There is a need to incline or dispose oneself to the Lord for the necessary revelation. Anything short of this may lead to conjecture and wrong assumptions, which may not stand rigorous empiricism. The one Book of the Scriptures that holds information relating to the mark of the Beast is the Book of Revelation. The interesting thing about the Book of Revelation as it concerns this number is that it was never supposed to defy interpretation. It is the wisdom of the Lord God that this code be used, and it is also the understanding that the Lord God Himself gives, that can break this code of a number. Rev 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. We can see from verse 18 just above that 666 is the number of a man. This is a bit ambiguous. Most persons have misinterpreted it to be the number of a man s identification card or credit card. When the Scriptures talks of a man in this case, it is generalizing, meaning generic man, and not a specific person. Thus we can see that the beast is actually human. In actuality, the beast is both spirit and man. It is the product of a fusion of a spirit and a human female. The product is conspicuously a man, but latently a spirit. It is man that has degenerated to a sub human level. The beast does not have the number of a beast or the attributes of a beast, but that of a man. This is because, the beast is actually human. It is redolent of the analogy of defining the Devil as a Serpent. Thus instead of saying Devil, the Scripture also uses Serpent, while we are actually dealing with a being that is not a snake. He is supposed to have been one of the best in Heaven. Serpent is only used in analogy. In the same vein, beast is only a satirical application to a man who has refused to identify with the Lord God. The Devil himself was the first beast; the beast of Eden. He came to the first people like a beast; that is a serpent. That is why he is known as the Serpent. The anti-Christ, being one with the devil comes in the image and spirit of his father, the Devil. That is why he is equally known and addressed as the Beast. The mark of the Beast is not placed on animals but on man. It is a sign which incorporates the numbers of the Living God and the number of the Devil. It is an unholy alliance, which is detested by the Lord God, and cursed. Read this book and understand without the least ambiguity, what the Mark of the Beast is really all about. You shall have your money refunded you if you have a better explanation to this and can prove it.

Jesus is always at work.Mark was not one of Jesus’ original disciples, but he was present at the birth of the church and had a strong relationship with Peter. After Peter was put to death during the reign of Emperor Nero, Mark decided to record everything Peter had told him about Jesus and create his Gospel account of the life, death, and resurrection of Christ. Mark shows us that no matter how chaotic our world becomes, we can always cling to the hope and peace that we have in Jesus. Even in the darkest of times, we can rely on the light of Christ to see us through. And while the path to following Jesus is not always easy, it is always worth it.The Jeremiah Bible Study Series captures Dr. David Jeremiah’s forty-plus years of commitment to teaching the Word of God. In each study, he will help you understand what the Bible says, what it meant to the people at the time it was written, and what it means to you today. Along the way, you will gain insights into the text, identify key stories and themes, and be challenged to apply the truth you find in your life.
