Dedicated guide to the lumbar plexus provides invaluable anatomical and surgical insights Thorough knowledge of the lumbar plexus and its branches is crucial to achieving positive patient outcomes, especially with newer surgical approaches. Many of the nerve branches are formed within the psoas major muscle and careful dissection is necessary to free them during surgery to prevent damage. Moreover, the iliac vessels are medial to some of the larger branches of the plexus, such as the femoral and obturator nerves. In the retroperitoneal space, the kidney and ureter are nearby. In addition, due to the overlying peritoneal cavity and its contents, accessing the lumbar plexus presents considerable challenges. Surgical Anatomy of the Lumbar Plexus is the only book on the market devoted to the lumbar plexus and its branches, focusing on anatomy and clinical applications, pathology, surgery, and imaging. Internationally known authors R. Shane Tubbs, Marios Loukas, Amgad Hanna, Rod Oskouian and a cadre of esteemed specialists provide unique insights, clinical pearls, knowledge based on thousands of spine surgeries, and a well-rounded multidisciplinary perspective. Key HighlightsNine separate chapters dedicated to impacted nerves: subcostal, iliohypogastric, ilioinguinal, lateral femoral cutaneous, genitofemoral, femoral, obturator, furcal, and accessory obturatorHistory and overview of dermatomal anatomy of branches derived from the lumbar plexusAnesthetic blockade of the femoral, lateral femoral cutaneous, iliohypogastric, ilioinguinal, and genitofemoral nervesTips for preventing complications and achieving positive outcomes for lateral transpsoas approaches to the lumbar spine and other proceduresMore than 100 novel illustrations provide clarity and understanding of a complex anatomical area as it relates to surgery involving the lumbar plexus and branches This o

In this book Professor Markus's main concern is with those aspects of Augustine's thought which help to answer questions about the purpose of human society, and particularly with his reflections on history, society and the Church. He relates Augustine's ideas to their contemporary context and to older traditions, and shows which aspects of his thought he absorbed from his intellectual environment. Augustine appears from this study as a thinker who rejected the 'sacralization' of the established order of society, and the implications of this for a theology of history are explored in the last chapter.
The Myth of the Absentee Father: (A Transcript of Events)
The Myth of the Absentee Father portrays the author's experiences with what he feels was an unfair family court system for non-custodial fathers. Marcos R. Wise wants fathers who are encountering the same obstacles to be involved in their children's lives to know they are not alone. He hopes readers support and understand his view that this system needs an overhaul, and subsequently begin a conversation about how things should change. About the Author Marcos R. Wise was raised in a two parent household in Tuskegee, Alabama, with four siblings. He was the fourth child with two older sisters and one older brother. He also has a younger sister. His father was the bread winner and his mother was a traditional housewife. He thought that this was the family Americans strived for - a well-rounded family. However, at forty-one years old, he can finally and wholeheartedly say that isn't the case.

This brief presents several new query processing techniques, called complex motion pattern queries, specifically designed for very large spatio-temporal databases of moving objects. The brief begins with the definition of flexible pattern queries, which are powerful because of the integration of variables and motion patterns. This is followed by a summary of the expressive power of patterns and flexibility of pattern queries. The brief then present the Spatio-Temporal Pattern System (STPS) and density-based pattern queries. STPS databases contain millions of records with information about mobile phone calls and are designed around cellular towers and places of interest. Density-based pattern queries capture the aggregate behavior of trajectories as groups. Several evaluation algorithms are presented for finding groups of trajectories that move together in space and time, i.e. within a predefined distance to each other. Finally, the brief describes a generic framework, called DivDB, for diversifying query results. Two new evaluation methods, as well as several existing ones, are described and tested in the proposed DivDB framework. The efficiency and effectiveness of all the proposed complex motion pattern queries are demonstrated through an extensive experimental evaluation using real and synthetic spatio-temporal databases. This clear evaluation of new query processing techniques makes Spatio-Temporal Database a valuable resource for professionals and researchers studying databases, data mining, and pattern recognition.

Ethylene glycol is an organic compound with vast applications in various sectors of the chemical industry. Although the best known applications are as an anti-freeze liquid or in the composition of hydraulic fluids, the largest consumption of this compound is in the manufacture of saturated and unsaturated polyester resins, as well as polyurethanes. Ethylene glycol, or ethane-1,2-diol, is produced by reacting ethylene oxide, or 1,2-epoxyethane, with water in the presence of a catalyst, such as dilute sulphuric acid, at a temperature of 60 C, but the synthesis of ethylene oxide requires 300 C and 20 atm for the reaction to reach high levels of yield. This work proposes an alternative to obtaining ethylene oxide conventionally, which forms ethylene glycol in an aqueous electrolyte. The main results showed that, at constant current, the electrode with palladium oxide presented the best yield for the generation of ethylene glycol and ethanol, with better selectivity for ethylene glycol.
