The Frontiers of Corporate Food in Egypt

The Frontiers of Corporate Food in Egypt

Marion W. Dixon

This book details the development and growth of a corporate agri-food system in Egypt. The system includes food processing and an animal protein complex largely for corporate consumer markets in the country-from street kiosks to fast food outlets to hypermarkets-and fresh fruits and vegetables largely for export. Marion W. Dixon demonstrates the importance of reclaimed lands, or frontiers, for the development and growth of the corporate agri-food system since the 1980s. Various forces, including multiple threats from plant and animal diseases (the Avian flu, especially) have pushed and pulled agribusiness to new lands. This system's growth has also rested on imports and contract farming. As a result, dependence on food imports has grown. What agriculturalists grow has changed toward processing vegetables and animal protein, and what Egyptians eat has changed toward foods/drinks high in unhealthy fats, sugars, and sodium. Through mixed-methods research in Egypt between 2008 and 2012, The Frontiers of Corporate Food in Egypt shows how the growth of corporate food has contributed to growing food insecurity and to multiplying threats to public health from chronic and infectious diseases.

My original intent in writing "The Witch Letters" was to pose a word of caution regarding what appears to be a growing loose attitude toward the practice of witchcraft. This is a real art which opens real pathways into the mind and soul. Children have very impressionable minds which without boundaries are susceptible to the influence of beliefs and practices that can be harmful.Although I believe that my stated intent still comes through in this tale, I want to share how the power of the Holy Spirit redirected the story line. What I would have presented as a lesson or admonishment, The Lord clearly reshaped into a love story. It demonstrates the wooing of the creator for His creation, our Father's desire to seek out His children, the extreme passion of our great Lord, Jesus for relationship. So what we have here is a story about a young woman who was delving into things that were not good for her when she has a life changing encounter with her savior, Jesus. She is no longer known for the actions in which she once participated. She becomes known for who she is, His beloved child
Words of Life: With Scripture Referencing the Power of the Word

Words of Life: With Scripture Referencing the Power of the Word

I believe that The LORD wants His people to recognize the power of His WORD as found in The Bible as well as our own words that we speak each day. His scripture tells us that we "do not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live." We have the resource of our Bible to teach us to speak words correctly. When we speak weakness, sickness, and trouble over ourselves, we give those things an open door. When we speak life, healing, wellness, and positive outcomes over ourselves, we give good things access. God's word teaches us, "For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned." God's WORD has been compared to a sword, fire, gold, a hammer, a mirror, and a lamp. Lottie's thoughts of illness began in her mind. We are told to "take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." God's word, like a sword, slays negative thinking before it takes hold. His word is also like fire. Fire purifies. It cleans off all of the dirt and grime. It lets the beauty shine and kills the rotten and the ugly. As stated, "Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you." Psalms reads, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." It is through study and application of His word that we find the good path. We get instruction and wisdom from the lamp of His word. It guides us through darkness and fear. It illuminates. His word is a hammer which breaks those rocks that appear to be unmovable, unshakeable, and unbearable. We can believe Him when He says, "I will take sickness away from the midst of thee." We are told that the words of God are more desired than any gold. Gold shines and represents the glory of God. Gold is the evidence that God is at work. As we are reminded, "When thou has eaten and art full, then though shalt bless the LORD thy God for the good land which he hath given thee . . . and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied." Further, God's word is like a mirror. When we "look into it" then we will "be blessed."9 When we behold "as in a glass the glory of the Lord," then we "are changed into the same image from glory to glory." 10 Daily reading of God's word will cause us to reflect His glory into the world in which we live. There is great power in the words that God has equipped us to speak for they have come through Jesus and share His strength. Our savior, Jesus, spoke words over the sick and they were healed. He spoke words over the lame and they leaped for joy. He spoke words over the blind and they gained sight. As the scripture says, "for his word was with power." When we talk about The WORD, we are talking about Jesus. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Jesus is The Healer. Speaking of Jesus, Isaiah says, "and with his stripes we are healed." Throughout His ministry, "great multitudes came together to hear; and to be healed by him of their infirmities." When He was preparing to leave the earth and return to Heaven, Jesus gave the commission to, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." He told them that they would be able to "lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." We see an example of this happening in Acts when the "Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately." Not only is Jesus, The WORD which delivers healing, He is The WORD which gives eternal life. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life." From early times, God has told us to "choose life, obey His voice, for He is thy life, and the length of thy days." We are reminded in the Psalms, that "He sent His word, and healed them."
Votes for Women! The American Woman Suffrage Movement and the Nineteenth Amendment
This contextual narrative of the 70-year history of the woman suffrage movement in the United States demonstrates how an important mass political and social movement coalesced into a political force despite class, racial, ethnic, religious, and regional barriers.Votes for Women! provides an updated consideration of the questions raised by the mass movement to gain equality and access to power in our democracy. It interprets the campaigns for woman suffrage from the 1830s until 1920, analyzes the impact of the Nineteenth Amendment, and presents primary documents to allow a glimpse into the minds of those who campaigned for and against woman suffrage. The book's examination of the 70-year woman suffrage campaign shows how the movement faced enormous barriers, was perceived as threatening the very core of accepted beliefs, and was a struggle that showcased the efforts of strong protagonists and brilliant organizers who were intellectually innovative and yet were reflective of the great divides of race, ethnicity, religion, economics, and region existing across the nation. Included within the narrative section are biographies of significant personalities in the movement, such as militant Alice Paul and anti-suffragist Ida Tarbell as well as more commonly known leaders Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony.

In "An Audience Before the King", the author has taken the liberty to imagine how an audience of stately students would have appeared as they sat before the great throne of King Solomon. She delves into a day in his court, his words, his actions, his dress, and mannerisms. Based on Proverbs 22:22 through 24:22, this is a short tale regarding 30 admonitions and knowledge presented by King Solomon of Israel.
