Central American Mythology: Captivating Myths of Gods, Goddesses, and Legendary Creatures of Ancient Mexico and Central America
If you're looking for a captivating collection of Central American myths, then keep reading... Mexico and the Central American states are home to many indigenous peoples, each of whom speaks their own language and lives according to their own customs. These diverse peoples have rich storytelling cultures, passing down myths about gods and the work of creation, and about the humans who for good or ill interact with these otherworldly beings. The loving god Olocupinele creates the world of the Cuna of Panama, while the goddess Nakawe' destroys and then remakes the world of the Huichol of Mexico. In the story "Mother Scorpion Country," from the Miskito of Nicaragua, we learn that even the goddess of the land of the dead cannot break the bond of love between a husband and wife. The stories presented in this volume are but a small sample of the abundant variety of myths and legends from Mexico and Central America. Nevertheless, they give us important glimpses into the ways people from this part of the world see themselves, as humans trying to understand their place within a larger universe containing beings both seen and unseen, and as people doing their best to live ethical lives that respect their fellow humans and the other creatures that live alongside them. Central American Mythology: Captivating Myths of Gods, Goddesses, and Legendary Creatures of Ancient Mexico and Central America invites you to go on a startling journey and discover the following myths: Olocupinele Creates the World (Dule/Cuna, Panama)Watakame' and the Great Flood (Wix ritari/Huichol, Mexico)Yomomuli and the Talking Tree (Yoeme/Yaqui, Mexico)How the Sea Was Made (Cab car, Costa Rica)Mother Scorpion's Country (Miskito, Nicaragua)The Childhood of the Sun and the Moon (qne-a tnya-e/Chatino, Mexico)The Invisible Hunters (Miskito, Nicaragua)The King of the Peccaries (Bribri, Costa Rica)How Opossum Stole Fire (Mazatec, Mexico)Uncle Rabbit and Uncle Tiger (Nicaragua)And much, much more So if you want a captivating collection of Central American myths, click the "add to cart" button

Captivating Stories of the Gods, Sagas, and Heroes This book gives an overview of Norse mythology, telling some of the stories of the gods, giants and other creatures of that lost era before history began. Though the world came to know of the Norse and their legends through Roman interaction about the time of Christ, most of what we came to know were handed down from folk tales gathered by native writers like Snorri Sturluson (c. 1179-1241). This was from a time when the Norse had already been converted to Christianity. Some of what Sturluson wrote was clearly influenced by Christian beliefs of the time. As with all sources, we have to assume at least a little bit of bias was involved. The age of belief in the Norse gods had ended. We can only guess how much of those old beliefs were left out because they may have been incompatible with the new beliefs of Christendom. Sturluson gathered the tales in a work now known as the Prose Edda. Several anonymous writers of the pre-Christian era created poems which have collected in what is now called the Poetic Edda. These pre-date Sturluson's work and thus are far more likely to give us insights into the thinking and attitudes of the early Norse people. Danish scholar Saxo Grammaticus gave us a Latin language version of Danish history, Gesta Danorum, written in the twelfth century. But even earlier, we have more matter-of-fact writing of Roman historian Tacitus in the first century, discussing the tribes of the region they called Germania. As with most stories, it's best to start at the beginning. And as with any story of gods, we start with the Norse version of creation. Within this book, you'll find the answers to these questions and more. Just some of the questions and topics covered include Norse Creation StoryThe Nine RealmsGods and the "Giants" of J tunheimMidgard and the HumansElves, Dwarves, Trolls and ValkyriesOdin, Frigg, Thor, and LokiThe Death of BaldrConflict Between the RealmsEnglish Days of the WeekAnd more Scroll to the top and select the "Add to Cart" button now to learn more about Norse mythology

Greek Mythology: A Fascinating Guide to Understanding the Ancient Greek Religion with Its Gods, Goddesses, Monsters and Mortals
A Fascinating Guide to Understanding the Ancient Greek Religion with Its Gods, Goddesses, Monsters and Mortals The ancient Greeks were explorers in many ways. They traveled to new places, creating colonies in strange lands far from their original homes. They were survivors. They were honorable thieves. They used their cunning to explore the frontiers of philosophy, and they wrested from the chaos of the surrounding wilderness the building blocks of civilization. Though the Greeks were late to the game of writing, what they wrote became an important part of our world's heritage.Greek heroes taught us many lessons, from Homer's poetry about war and a warrior's return home to the tales of Cadmus, Jason, Herakles and even Oedipus. The myths of Greek heroes give us a glimpse beyond the edge of history, into the lives of very real people. How much of their tales are true, we may never know. But this book will present their tales in a new light, hopefully making their experiences a bit more real and perhaps shining a light on what may have really happened behind the distortions of time and generations of misunderstanding. This book is broken into four parts. The first will explore Greek heroes, what they were like and what they accomplished. The second part of the book will tackle Greek religion-the gods and goddesses which establish the backdrop against which Greek legends were formed. In the third part of the book, we take a close look at the myths of Greek monsters. And finally, in the fourth part, we explore the possible meaning behind the literal words of Greek mythology. Early in the written history of ancient Greece, we have the great Athenian lawgiver, Solon. He attempted to tame the unruly beast within the heart of each Greek hero. They were selfish, each and every one of them. But they also had a code of honor that helped them rein in their selfishness. So, we will end the book with Solon, who established laws so unpopular with the wicked that the lawgiver left Athens on an extended vacation so that others would not be able to talk him out of the laws he had handed down. But we will start with the heroes who came before Greek history began. A Fascinating Guide to Understanding the Sagas, Gods, Heroes, and Beliefs of the Vikings This book on Norse Mythology is part of the new series "Greek Mythology - Norse Mythology - Egyptian Mythology" that is written by the best-selling author Matt Clayton. In this ultimate guide on Norse Mythology, you will discover captivating stories of the Gods, heroes, and beliefs of the Vikings. This book is broken into two parts: Heroes and SagasThe Norse GodsThis book is jam-packed with fascinating facts and stories. For instance, it covers all that you need to know about the nine realms as well as captivating tales of Odin, Thor, Loki, and Ragnar k. The Vikings of Norse poetry and saga were a fearless lot, and their tales were frequently tragic. Some, if not all, of the myths were based on real people and real events. These heroes accomplished many fantastic feats, some of them even documented by their enemies. The Vikings were born out of an age of hardship. Tales of their earliest raids come to us from the 790s, during the early European Middle Ages. This was a period of dangerous iciness as the thousand-year climate cycle dipped to the coldest our world had experienced in 7,000 years. No doubt, the punishing cold for these people of Northern Europe helped to dispel any complacency they may have felt during the warmer, mid-Holocene epoch. Death was sitting on their doorstep, and the weak and timid would have died from the change in climate. Only the strong and cunning would survive. Like their sagas and heroes, the Norse gods were also a rough and tumble group of individuals with strong character and human frailties. Egyptian Mythology: A Fascinating Guide to Understanding the Gods, Goddesses, Monsters, and Mortals
Enjoy Captivating Stories of the Gods, Goddesses, Monsters, and Mortals From what we know of history, Egypt, along with Sumer, were the foundations of civilization. The Fertile Crescent, which stretched from the Nile Valley to the twin rivers in Mesopotamia, gave us our earliest glimpse of organized man. But organized how? For one, both locations gave us writing-hieroglyphics in Egypt and cuneiform in Sumer. There is still some debate about who was first. In this book, we will start by looking at the gods and goddesses of Kemet-Ancient Egypt. Then, we will turn our attention to the monsters which likely gave them nightmares and humbled them in their quest to bring order to the world around them. Finally, we will look at the mortals which shaped their civilization and made Egypt the bedrock of our own history. Though Egypt today is only a third-world nation, struggling with terrorism and poverty, their heritage remains vital to the understanding of who we are as a species. African Mythology: Captivating Myths of Gods, Goddesses, and Legendary Creatures of Africa
If you're looking for a captivating collection of African myths, then keep reading... The continent of Africa is home to fifty-four countries that together harbor over three thousand cultures, each with their own ways of life and each with their own stories. Some of these stories have their origins in the folk beliefs of people native to their particular region, while others were imported from or influenced by cultures from elsewhere who settled in Africa. A great number of African folktales have been transmitted orally from person to person down through the ages, but since the nineteenth century, many stories have been written down and transmitted to audiences beyond the boundaries of the cultures that created them. One important-and tragic-conduit for the transmission of these stories beyond African shores was the European slave trade. Captured Africans who were brought to the Americas and the Caribbean fought to keep alive what they could of their home cultures, and this included their folktale traditions. African folktales come in many different types. Some are myths explaining the origins of things, while others are tales of heroes with supernatural abilities. Animal stories are many and varied, and they usually involve some kind of trickster who uses his wiles to get out of sticky situations and sometimes into them. There are also cautionary tales explaining why it is important to behave well and treat others with respect, while other stories have a style and shape similar to that of a fairy tale.
