King Arthur and His Knights by Maude L. Radford, Fiction, Legends, Myths, & Fables - Arthurian
A collection of King Arthur's adventures. Following his ascent to King of Britain to his death. The powerful lords rode up in their clanking armor and entered the church. There were so many of them that they quite filled the nave and side-aisles of the building. The Archbishop looked at their stern bronzed faces, their heavy beards, their broad shoulders and their glittering armor and prayed God to make the best man in the land king.*"She is the Lady of the Lake," says Merlin. "She lives in a rock in the middle of the lake. See, she is coming toward us. And look at what is rising beyond her from the water " Arthur, wounded from his battle with the knight and holding the pieces of his broken sword, looks out onto the waters where Merlin points, and sees an arm clothed in pure white, holding a huge, cross-hilted sword, so brilliant that his eyes are dazzled. "'Take me, ' the writing says, on one side of the sword," said Arthur when he takes the blade into his hands. "And 'Cast me away, ' on the other. I'm glad to take the sword, but it saddens me to think of casting it away." Merlin's face grows sad, too. He knows what is to pass in the future -- and is well aware that when the time comes to cast the sword away, much evil will have befallen the young king at his side.

King Arthur and His Knights is Maude L. Radford's retelling of the classic tale of King Arthur. King Arthur is a legendary British leader who, according to medieval histories and romances, led the defence of Britain against Saxon invaders in the late 5th and early 6th centuries AD. The details of Arthur's story are mainly composed of folklore and literary invention, and his historical existence is debated and disputed by modern historians. The sparse historical background of Arthur is gleaned from various sources, including the Annales Cambriae, the Historia Brittonum, and the writings of Gildas. Arthur's name also occurs in early poetic sources such as Y Gododdin.

Twenty years ago, a brutal murder in a quiet suburb of America would ultimately go unsolved: The Case of Maude Daley. Paul Johnson is a detective in the police department of Boise, Idaho... the lead investigator when the case was fresh on the minds of the community and freshly inked in the newspapers. But with his retirement looming in just 93 days, he has made it his mission to finally crack the long-dormant mystery. Nearly three-thousand miles away, Karen Glover is nowhere on Johnson's radar, yet her new work of fiction bears way too many similarities to the details of the real case of Maude Daley. In a storm of long-kept secrets, and amidst the thunder of unlikely lives clashing together, Detective Johnson sets out to discover how Karen could possibly have written her book without knowing something of the real murder. Is Karen a suspect... perhaps the first he's had in over twenty years? Or did she know someone who might have shared information with her about the case? The clock is ticking... 93 days... he is determined to find the answers, uncovering secrets along the way that will shake a family to its foundations and change the lives of two women forever.

The fascinating story of a friendship, a lost tradition, and an incredible discovery, revealing how enslaved men and women made encoded quilts and then used them to navigate their escape on the Underground Railroad. "A groundbreaking work."--EmergeIn Hidden in Plain View, historian Jacqueline Tobin and scholar Raymond Dobard offer the first proof that certain quilt patterns, including a prominent one called the Charleston Code, were, in fact, essential tools for escape along the Underground Railroad. In 1993, historian Jacqueline Tobin met African American quilter Ozella Williams amid piles of beautiful handmade quilts in the Old Market Building of Charleston, South Carolina. With the admonition to "write this down," Williams began to describe how slaves made coded quilts and used them to navigate their escape on the Underground Railroad. But just as quickly as she started, Williams stopped, informing Tobin that she would learn the rest when she was "ready." During the three years it took for Williams's narrative to unfold--and as the friendship and trust between the two women grew--Tobin enlisted Raymond Dobard, Ph.D., an art history professor and well-known African American quilter, to help unravel the mystery.Part adventure and part history, Hidden in Plain View traces the origin of the Charleston Code from Africa to the Carolinas, from the low-country island Gullah peoples to free blacks living in the cities of the North, and shows how three people from completely different backgrounds pieced together one amazing American story. "Startling--intriguing."--The New York Times

At the zenith of his career he was renowned for his ability to quickly assess battlefield developments, understand what action was required and putting it speedily into motion. He is particularly acclaimed for his leadership during the Battle of Rossbach, (1757) when he led thirty eight squadrons of Prussian cavalry in a crushing charge to rout both the French and Imperial Armies. He played a pivotal role as a cavalry commander at Leuthen and Kunersdorf among others, whilst at Freiberg he demonstrated his value as a commander of both cavalry and infantry formations. This special Leonaur edition brings together three accounts of Seydlitz's military career accompanied by illustrations which did not appear with the original texts.

Zachary Hunter's client list ranges from Zoe Horowitz, a seemingly nice Jewish girl who hires him to find her fianc e, to a Russian Mafia crime boss who runs the mob from prison. Marissa Juliette Baristono, a beautiful, award winning interior designer, has been with Hunter since back in the day, when neither of them had anything. These days they share their lives with Owen, an Irish Wolfhound weighing something north of 150 pounds. An elephant tusk, long an urban legend, but which, if it actually existed, would command a fortune on the illicit art market because of the perfectly executed erotic carvings rumored to be covering it, suddenly surfaces. It is being smuggled into the U.S. in a Mexican cartel's van. The van gets into an accident, and one of the cartel's guards steals the tusk in the ensuing confusion. The thief cuts a separate deal with two rival mob bosses for the sale of the same tusk, virtually guaranteeing that one of them will think he's been cheated and will come after him. Desperate, he hires Hunter to get the tusk to one boss and persuade the other not to kill him. It's a tough enough assignment without more, but it becomes even more complicated when Hunter learns that not only does each of the mob bosses and the cartel think the tusk belongs to them, but, for much different reasons, so does the Russian Mafia, the CIA, the FBI, and LAPD. With them involved, it's no holds barred, and anything can happen
