The Labradoodle is a designer breed of dog that was created by cross breeding the Labrador Retriever and the Standard, Miniature or Toy Poodle. The breed was first developed in 1955, but did not gain popularity until 1988, when the Labradoodle started to be used as a hypoallergenic guide dog. The breed was developed by an Australian breeder named Wally Conron. Conron's aim was to combined the low shedding coat and intelligence of the Poodle with the gentleness and trainability of the Labrador.
