A range of DLC, Si-DLC, N-DLC and F-DLC films were prepared using PECVD with various film thicknesses (100-200) nm. The simplest amino acid "Glycine" is used as a model biological compound to investigate surface adsorption phenomena. Following exposure to solutions containing glycine, surface characteristic has been investigated by various techniques. XPS analysis showed the appearance of a new peak at 400 eV (N1s) and a change in the intensity of the C1s and O1s peaks. Both Raman and FTIR spectra showed bands related to functional groups of glycine. AFM analysis showed a change in surface roughness of the films with the ratio of rms values increasing following exposure to glycine. Changes in the surface energy of the films were observed following exposure to glycine with an increase in the surface tension. Based on the kinetic study, the adsorption process obeyed the pseudo first order rate of reaction, and both ∆G and ∆H results showed that the adsorption is spontaneous and exothermic. The Freundlich-Langmuir isotherm suggest that the attachment of glycine is non- uniform and multilayer.

The development of a project is conditioned by well-defined techniques; these are consecutive steps in sequence; from the preparation of the technical file through to site preparation, the construction of reinforced concrete structures as well as metal and mixed structures, right up to the acceptance of the work. All these steps are the subject of this course, without ignoring the introduction to the various earthquake-resistant regulations for safer constructions. This document is aimed at Architect and Civil Engineering students, with the aim of introducing them to the process of designing and building structures, in order to facilitate and clarify their tasks in design offices and even on building sites. The construction operation was shown from a technical and technological point of view, and an introduction was given to the notions of the different regulations used in reinforced concrete, in accordance with the RPA. The present document is made up of six (06) chapters which will help to enrich the knowledge base previously obtained.

Rabbis, Sorcerers, Kings, and Priests examines the impact of the Persian Sasanian context on the Babylonian Talmud, perhaps the most important corpus in the Jewish sacred canon. What impact did the Persian Zoroastrian Empire, as both a real historical force and an imaginary interlocutor, have on rabbinic identity and authority as expressed in the Talmud? Drawing from the field of comparative religion, Jason Sion Mokhtarian addresses this question by bringing into mutual fruition Talmudic studies and ancient Iranology, two historically distinct disciplines. Whereas most research on the Talmud assumes that the rabbis were an insular group isolated from the cultural horizon outside their academies, this book contextualizes the rabbis and the Talmud within a broader sociocultural orbit by drawing from a wide range of sources from Sasanian Iran, including Middle Persian Zoroastrian literature, archaeological data such as seals and inscriptions, and the Aramaic magical bowl spells. Mokhtarian also includes a detailed examination of the Talmud's dozens of texts that portray three Persian others: the Persians, the Sasanian kings, and the Zoroastrian priests. This book skillfully engages and demonstrates the rich penetration of Persian imperial society and culture on the Jews of late antique Iran.

This book skillfully engages and demonstrates the rich penetration of Persian imperial society and culture on the Jews of late antique Iran.
Despite the Talmud being the richest repository of medical remedies in ancient Judaism, this important strain of Jewish thought has been largely ignored—even as the study of ancient medicine has exploded in recent years. In a comprehensive study of this topic, Jason Sion Mokhtarian recuperates this obscure genre of Talmudic text, which has been marginalized in the Jewish tradition since the Middle Ages, to reveal the unexpected depth of the rabbis’ medical knowledge. Medicine in the Talmud argues that these therapies represent a form of rabbinic scientific rationality that relied on human observation and the use of nature while downplaying the role of God and the Torah in health and illness. Drawing from a wide range of both Jewish and Sasanian sources—from the Bible, the Talmud, and Maimonides to texts written in Akkadian, Syriac, and Mandaic, as well as the incantation bowls—Mokhtarian offers rare insight into how the rabbis of late antique Babylonia adapted the medical knowledge of their time to address the needs of their community. In the process, he narrates an untold chapter in the history of ancient medicine.

MPEG-7 is the first international standard which contains a number of key techniques from Computer Vision and Image Processing. The Curvature Scale Space technique was selected as a contour shape descriptor for MPEG-7 after substantial and comprehensive testing, which demonstrated the superior performance of the CSS-based descriptor. Curvature Scale Space Representation: Theory, Applications, and MPEG-7 Standardization is based on key publications on the CSS technique, as well as its multiple applications and generalizations. The goal was to ensure that the reader will have access to the most fundamental results concerning the CSS method in one volume. These results have been categorized into a number of chapters to reflect their focus as well as content. The book also includes a chapter on the development of the CSS technique within MPEG standardization, including details of the MPEG-7 testing and evaluation processes which led to the selection of the CSS shape descriptor for the standard. The book can be used as a supplementary textbook by any university or institution offering courses in computer and information science.
