No typology lends itself more naturally to Juan Montoya s creative impulses than tropical residences. There is such a sense of appropriateness to place in the architecture and interiors that our assumption that the designer s stylistic affinity is somehow inborn becomes inescapable. In this book, the reader will visit Montoya-designed residences that occupy ravishing sites in Punta Mita (Mexico), Cap Cana (Dominican Republic), Miami Beach, Fisher Island, and other idyllic oceanfront locales. As much as these homes are escapist fantasias, they are also inextricably rooted to their geographic location and their regional culture. And while their sense of luxury is palpable, so is their lack of pretension, the practicality that makes them functional for the families who reside there, and their resilience to the natural conditions in which they are found. Luxuriate in open-air pavilions with endless views of sea and sand, on sweeping terraces with glimmering pools and dramatic sunsets, and in sumptuous interiors with blue-and-white tiles, intricate beadwork, global textiles, and thatched roofs. This book is a must-have for interior designers, owners or potential buyers of seaside property, and armchair travellers who relish an escape to paradise.

Starting from the core of a copper-wound transformer, we design a winding transformer in aluminum and compare the results obtained in Matlab's Simulink simulation.Companies such as Rymel and ABB have implemented the construction of large power transformers with aluminum sheets, so it is important to propose a discussion about the subject for future research. This paper presents the design of an aluminum-wound transformer, showing the advantages and disadvantages of this material. The aluminum-wound transformer is 40% lighter and 30% larger compared to the copper-wound transformer. However, the heat dissipation presented by the aluminum winding is superior to that of a copper winding due to the cross section of the aluminum conductor and the coefficient of thermal conductivity.

The first publication to provide an art-historical examination of the broad scope and depth of Montoya’s world renowned body of work. Delilah Montoya: Reclaiming Chicano Narratives Through Art and Activism provides an in-depth exploration of Delilah Montoya’s decades-long engagement with printmaking, photography, and large-scale installation works, showcasing her contributions to contemporary art through the lens of her Chicana heritage. Born in Texas, raised in the Midwest, and now living in New Mexico, where she has spent much of her career, Montoya and her work are deeply rooted in the experiences of the Southwest and its communities. Her projects navigate the intersections of spirituality, gender norms, and cultural identity, challenging and redefining perceptions through a unique lens intently trained on the roots of mestizaje, the coming together of European and Indigenous cultures in the formation of Latino identities. From the very beginning, Montoya’s work has not only situated and defined Chicana and Chicano identity, it has also served as a tool rooted in activism to demand that these voices, stories, bodies, and histories be seen. This ambitious volume is the first publication to provide an art-historical examination of the broad scope and depth of Montoya’s body of work. This book cements Montoya’s status as a key artist in the discourse on Chicana and Chicano art and culture.

A generously illustrated account of the life and work of the prominent Chicano artist, educator, and activist José Montoya (1932–2013) was a leading figure in bilingual and bicultural expression drawn from barrio life as a defining feature of U.S. culture. As an artist, poet, and musician, he produced iconic works depicting pachuco and pachuca culture based on his own experiences as a youth after World War II. These include the poem “El Louie” as well as thousands of political posters and masterful sketches. Montoya cofounded the art collective Royal Chicano Air Force and helped organize for the United Farm Workers. An influential educator, he established the Barrio Art Program in the early 1970s, and taught at California State University, Sacramento.Author Ella Maria Diaz examines a remarkable career that traversed decades, languages, media, and genres. This book is illustrated with reproductions of Montoya’s art from rarely seen archival slides and documents, as well as from private collections and the Montoya estate. Through oral histories and archival research, Diaz proposes a new model for the study of Latina/o/x artists who reject the boundaries between visual art, poetry, music, education, and community activism. This book is distributed for the Chicano Studies Research Center at UCLA.

Chicano activist, poet, artist, intellectual, professor, and musician, José Montoya (1932–2013) was a veritable Renaissance man. Montoya often found inspiration in the verdant fields of the San Joaquin Valley where his family arrived from their home in New Mexico in the 1940s looking for work. The visual artist and poet humanized the farmworker and understood the backbreaking work of field labor from firsthand experience. A Chicano civil rights activist, he marched alongside Cesar Chavez and advanced the cause of the United Farm Workers movement to bring justice and dignity to agricultural laborers.José Montoya's Abundant Harvest honors the artist's prolific work as well as his subject matter in this energetic survey that includes eighty-one of his drawings.
