How Mom Helped Her Young Children with MATH by Using Examples will help young students understand what math is all about. It's never too early to learn mathematical concepts, author Natalia G. Toreeva believes, and kids should start in preschool. Her examples continue for kindergarten and elementary school students, as well as for those who are homeschooled."I felt that the starting point for young children to understand math should be as early as possible. And the examples used in this book can help with that," says the author. The Mom in the book helps children with their starting point in understanding math, as she teaches her own children math concepts by using simple examples, making math fun and easy to understand. She also shows how addition and subtraction functions work, which are the foundation for math.About The Author: Natalia G. Toreeva is an award-winning artist whose works are displayed in museums in Chicago, Illinois, and in St. Petersburg, Russia. Her books are in the collection of the State Museum "Tsarskoselskaya Collection" in St. Petersburg and in local public libraries in Illinois. In 2023, she participated in the International Exhibition of Arts, where 22 countries partook, winning the Silver Medal for her three works in the graphics category. The author received her master's in art and design in St. Petersburg, and her master's in computer science from DePaul University, Chicago. She is a member of the Artists Trade Union of Russia and the DuPage Writer's Group in Illinois. Toreeva has illustrated novels, poetry and has contributed to a number of literary journals. This is her fifth children's book. A retired engineer and system analyst, she lives in Carol Stream, Illinois.

Nonlinear Behaviour and Stability of Thin-Walled Shells

Nonlinear Behaviour and Stability of Thin-Walled Shells

Natalia I. Obodan; Olexandr G. Lebedeyev; Vasilii A. Gromov

Springer

sidottu
This book focuses on the nonlinear behaviour of thin-wall shells (single- and multilayered with delamination areas) under various uniform and non-uniform loadings. The dependence of critical (buckling) load upon load variability is revealed to be highly non-monotonous, showing minima when load variability is close to the eigenmode variabilities of solution branching points of the respective nonlinear boundary problem.A novel numerical approach is employed to analyze branching points and to build primary, secondary, and tertiary bifurcation paths of the nonlinear boundary problem for the case of uniform loading. The load levels of singular points belonging to the paths are considered to be critical load estimates for the case of non-uniform loadings.

Impact Spectropolarimetric Sensing

Impact Spectropolarimetric Sensing

Sergi Kazantsev; Natalia M. Firstova; Alexander G. Petrashen

Kluwer Academic/Plenum Publishers

This book arises from the significant quantity of original results in the field of impact spectropolarimetry, mainly for solar flare studies, and the evident potential applications of this technique to environmental physics, astrophysics, and hot plasma. This is a practically oriented book, describing theoretical fundamentals and implementation of this new interdisciplinary remote sensing technique. A basic phenomenon for impact spectropolarimetric sensing is the polarization ofthe electron shells of an ensemble of free atomic particles (atoms, ions, molecules) due to collisional interaction. Slow collisions in the presence of internal anisotropies in the relative velocity space inside any ionized medium, as well as bombardment of a diluted gas by fast precipitating light projectiles, are analyzed in detail as principal impact polarization mechanisms. Impact spectro polarimetric sensing incorporates state-of-the-art theoretical methods of colli sional physics in combination with reliable polarimetric measurements. This technique is illustrated by the new quantitative sensing of energy transport to the upper region of the chromosphere during solar flares, making use of ground based solar spectropolarimetric observations. Apart from general astrophysical and solar-terrestrial significance, a solar flare, the brightest nonthermal phenomenon, is a good candidate for the demonstration of new opportunities of impact spectropolarimetry. New astrophysical achievements of quantitative spectropolarimetry are particularly considered in this book. The theoretical part presents a quantum mechanical description of impact polarization and the spectropolarimetric manifestations for different energies of the colliding partners.

This text is designed to assist preservice and inservice teachers in creating a critical and reflective dialogue with themselves, their assigned classroom cultures, and the larger school environment. It engages readers in a series of classroom and school-based activities, observations, and exercises that can be used in any teacher education course with a field component. Different from other field experience guides, this text aims to disrupt traditional conceptions of teacher education and field experiences--by emphasizing the problematic nature and dynamics of public schooling, and encouraging readers to seek a greater awareness of their own attitudes toward and connections with these educational processes.Learning to Teach: A Critical Approach to the Field Experience, Second Edition:*dramatically reconceptualizes the field experience by asking preservice and inservice teachers to be active and critical researchers of classroom practices and processes;*provides a coherent framework for analyzing both structural and cultural aspects of schooling;*provides specific exercises to help preservice and inservice teachers evaluate and understand the intersections of race, class, gender, and culture in "real life" school settings; and*grounds the observations of everyday school life within critical, feminist, and poststructuralist discourses.New in the Second Edition: A new section,"No Child Left Untested," has been added to help preservice teachers explore the implications of a very changed post-September 11world in which xenophobia, violence, patriotism, citizenship, and democracy have taken on new meanings. The introduction to the book as a whole, the section introductions, the retained activities in existing sections, and the references have been throughly updated.
