More than just a cookbook, this beautifully produced volume in three parts promotes a total understanding of British fish, from their natural habitats to what sauce they go best and how to respect their sustainability, in keeping with the River Cottage ethos. The first part is dedicated to understanding fish - Hugh and Nick explain the ins and outs of procuring a good fish, discussing fish farming, aquaculture, sustainability and harvesting issues, how to buy and catch fish in an ethical way, and how to prepare it for the kitchen. Next they open up a whole world of fish cooking - pickling, salting, barbecuing, frying, potting, stewing, smoking and more are explained in depth, each technique followed by classic recipes from gravadlax to kedgeree, from sashimi to chip shop battered cod. Finally, Hugh and Nick present Britain's best fish by species, giving portraits with notes on seasonality and ecology, as well as listing the relevant recipes from part 2 with alternatives. With a new introduction from Hugh, The River Cottage Fish Book is the only book on fish that the adventurous fish lover will ever need.

‘Ingredients are at the heart of everything we do at River Cottage. By gathering our all-time favourites together, I hope to inspire you to look at them with fresh eyes and discover new ways of cooking them’ Hugh Fearnley-WhittingstallThe definitive River Cottage kitchen companion. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and his team of experts have between them an unprecedented breadth of culinary expertise on subjects that range from fishing and foraging to bread-making, preserving, cheese-making and much more. In this volume they profile their best-loved and most-used ingredients. With more than three hundred entries covering vegetables, fruits, herbs, spices, meat, fish, fungi, foraged foods, pulses, grains, dairy, oils and vinegars, the River Cottage A to Z is a compendium of all the ingredients the resourceful modern cook might want to use in their kitchen. Each ingredient is accompanied by a delicious, simple recipe or two: there are new twists on old favourites, such as cockle and chard rarebit, North African shepherd’s pie, pigeon breasts with sloe gin gravy, or damson ripple parfait, as well as inspiring ideas for less familiar ingredients, like dahl with crispy seaweed or rowan toffee. And there are recipes for all seasons: wild garlic fritters in spring; cherry, thyme and marzipan muffins for summer; an autumnal salad of venison, apple, celeriac and hazelnuts; a hearty winter warmer of ale-braised ox cheeks with parsnips. With more than 350 recipes, and brimming with advice on processes such as curing bacon and making yoghurt, the secret of perfect crackling and which apple varieties to choose for a stand-out crumble, as well as sourcing the most sustainable ingredients, this is an essential guide to cooking, eating and living well. More than anything, the River Cottage A to Z is a celebration of the amazing spectrum of produce that surrounds us – all brought to life by Simon Wheeler’s atmospheric photography, and Michael Frith’s evocative watercolour illustrations.

My Dad had an extraordinary life. Born in Hungary in 1933, his early childhood was idyllic in many ways, Hungary being an independent nation at that point. He then experienced the Nazi occupation during WW2 which was immediately followed by another even more brutal regime under the Russians. In 1956 he became involved in the Hungarian uprising as a freedom fighter against the might of Russia and became an unintentional hero when he assisted many people to escape Hungary, probably saving many lives in the process, before reaching the safety of England as an almost fatally wounded refugee. The intention of this introduction is to outline how this book came about.

A critically acclaimed novelist pulls Nick Carraway out of the shadows and into the spotlight in this "masterful" look into his life before Gatsby (Richard Russo, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Empire Falls and Chances Are). Before Nick Carraway moved to West Egg and into Gatsby's periphery, he was at the center of a very different story-one taking place along the trenches and deep within the tunnels of World War I. Floundering in the wake of the destruction he witnessed firsthand, Nick delays his return home, hoping to escape the questions he cannot answer about the horrors of war. Instead, he embarks on a transcontinental redemptive journey that takes him from a whirlwind Paris romance-doomed from the very beginning-to the dizzying frenzy of New Orleans, rife with its own flavor of debauchery and violence. An epic portrait of a truly singular era and a sweeping, romantic story of self-discovery, this rich and imaginative novel breathes new life into a character that many know but few have pondered deeply. Charged with enough alcohol, heartbreak, and profound yearning to paralyze even the heartiest of golden age scribes, Nick reveals the man behind the narrator who has captivated readers for decades.

This book has it all. Romance, love, sex and violence. Once you start to read this book you will find it hard to put down 'Nick Twisted Minds' Is an intriguing story of original fiction which focuses on the extraordinary lives and exploits of the main characters. Composed in a captivating narrative and impelling dialogue, the text flows at a brisk tempo. The plot contains more than a few strategically placed, unexpected twists that will maintain the readers interest throughout. A quiet and studious young lady, 'Tanya' causes very little difficulty for her parents. Responsible and well grounded, she maintains modest goals. Possessing a sparse romantic history, she is quite pleased when she meets a man named 'Nick' through a mutual friend. Before long the pair begin dating and find each other highly attractive. Believing that her new love embodies many of the traits she so highly values, Tanya agrees to cohabitate with Nick. unfortunately, she finds herself pregnant and soon discovers that who she thought was the love of her life has been far less than forthright. To her great dismay, this revelation begins a downward spiral from which her very existence is threatened.

What happens when you plunge an historical figure, the real Saint Nicholas, into the modern world? Not the red-suited, toy-making Saint Nicholas of American legend, but a man who exemplifies the spirit of giving; who gives from the heart and who knows what people need-not what they want. You get Nick, not really a man, but the immortal spirit of giving, who gets the reader to examine the spiritual side of life in a modern way but without a hint of religious dogma. Nick deals with adolescence, family, racial, and social issues and makes a positive difference in every life that he touches as he helps them to cope with seemingly insurmountable problems: Nick, a seemingly enigmatic old man, walks quietly into the lives of twelve very different people and is deprecated with prejudice, apprehension, and disdain about his strange appearance; during the holiday season that initial perception changes to love and respect as he helps orchestrate profound changes in each of their futures through miraculous gifts. Meet the twelve deserving people from all walks of life-all ages, all cultures, and socio-economic backgrounds-as they each struggle with something in their lives that holds them back from achieving their full potential as human beings. Nick is a proponent of the idea of giving oneself for the greater good. Nick helps a teenager in abject poverty trying to cope with the loss of her brother, an African-American mother and her illegitimate daughter enduring prejudice and the racist responsible for their plight, the unorthodox rescue of a sixteen-year-old girl from a sexual predator, a Hispanic couple split apart by the husband's compulsive obsession to put a drug dealer behind bars, a seventeen-year-old gravitating towards the wrong circle of friends, politics replete with graft, a mother coping with the possible loss of her twelve-year-old boy, who is suffering the agony of cancer treatments and life in an oncology unit, and a host of other problems facing both adults and teens that ominously threaten his goals. Each of the twelve days of Christmas will focus on a miraculous gift as the lives of twelve different people become woven together through a common thread that will change them forever. Can 4th century ideals match up to 21st century reality, and can modern man deal with the concept of the afterlife vis vis the paranormal? Parents can buy their children gifts; Nick is the spirit of giving of oneself, requiring no price-tags, and that inimitable spirit sees none of the boundaries that separate humans from each other-socio-economic standing, race, age, sex, religion.

Nick: Brothers in Blue Series (Book 1) Romance, Lust, Suspense, and Uncensored Scenes Darcy Campbell was a laid-off Chicago music teacher who took a job playing at a piano bar out of desperation. She'd had a run of bad luck and was already having another bad day...but it turned disastrous when she was the only witness to a mass murder. She watched in horror as her boss, his son, and other employees were gunned down before her eyes. The police promised to protect her identity if she testified against the monsters that had committed the massacre. But her name somehow was discovered and threats immediately fired in her direction. Detective Nick Baker promised to protect her and when things got hot he hid her away in his cabin in the backwoods of Wisconsin. Darcy wasn't sure what the bigger danger was - the killer hunting her or falling in love with the man who vowed to protect her. She couldn't love a police officer. She refused to love a police officer. It was nearly impossible to resist him, though, with his intense silver eyes and brawny body. He was like a drug, addictive and sinfully potent. Somehow she needed to protect her heart from him while he protected her from the deranged killers. Was she brave enough to confront both dangers? Nick is book 1 in the steamy Brothers in Blue Series WARNING - These stories contain steamy scenes and are not suitable for all ages. 18+
