A vital call to disrupt systemic forces that impoverish families and to reimagine accessible higher education, empowering parents to thrive in college and at home From the former teen mom and award-winning founder of Generation Hope, a nonprofit committed to expanding education access for young parents and all caregivers For countless American families, the promise of the "American Dream" rings hollow. They are caught in a cycle of limited opportunity, battling the sociopolitical forces that sustain generational poverty. These are parents and caregivers who yearn for a better life for their children, a reality Nicole Lynn Lewis intimately understands from her own journey as a teen mother. Student Parent is Lewis's unflinching yet profoundly hopeful investigation into the systemic obstacles that impede marginalized parents' access to education, career advancement, and true economic mobility. Crucially, this book moves beyond identifying problems to present transformative, actionable solutions that break through access barriers in higher education. Weaving insights from child and family health experts with vivid personal stories, Lewis outlines pathways for change to support families striving on the fringes. She champions practices like: subsidizing on-campus childcareaccommodating students facing childcare, transportation, and other challengesestablishing campus food pantries and destigmatizing their useStudent Parent isn't just a book about policy; it's a powerful testament to resilience and an advocate's guide for dismantling inequality. Lewis has an inspiring vision of an America where education is a right and generational wealth for all is a reality. This book shows us that investing in our student parents is a critical step on the path toward that bright future.
An activist calls on society to better support young families so they can thrive and reflects on her experiences as a Black mother fighting for opportunities for herself and her child. Each year, approximately 750,000 girls between the ages of 15 and 19 in the U.S. become pregnant. Teen pregnancy continues to be one of the most intensely debated issues among policymakers, educators, religious leaders, and families. There is agreement, however, on its negative consequences. Less than 50% of teen mothers graduate from high school and just 2% from college. Studies also confirm that a child whose mother had her as a teenager is set up to have a tough life. Pregnant Girl provides a narrative we rarely find in popular media: an affirmation and validation of young mothers' experiences. After becoming pregnant during her senior year in high school, Nicole Lynn Lewis put herself through college and earned several advanced degrees before starting her nonprofit, Generation Hope. Her personal story and the stories from women she's met and worked with to reveal a new perspective on teen pregnancy, poverty, racism, and the movement to make college more accessible for teen parents everywhere that will add to the national conversation. This raw, moving exploration of young motherhood gives us a chance to see what it would look like for the US to provide real support for young mothers.

Gabriel is also part of the Archetypes, and Cassie soon learns that his loyalty is torn between factions - and this puts everyone in danger. As the prophecy comes to light, and family secrets force her to question everything she knows, Cassie learns there is more than one reason she plays a vital role in events that are to unfold - and that she could be the anomaly standing between the annihilation of humans. One girl. Two worlds. Bound by destiny.

This synopsis covers evidence for the effects of conservation interventions for native farmland wildlife. It is restricted to evidence captured on the website www.conservationevidence.com. It includes papers published in the journal Conservation Evidence, evidence summarized on our database and systematic reviews collated by the Collaboration for Environmental Evidence. It is the thrid volume in the series Synopses of Conservation Evidence. Evidence was collected from all European countries west of Russia, but not those south of France, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary and Romania. A list of interventions to conserve wildlife on farmland was developed collaboratively by a team of thirteen experts. A number of interventions that are not currently agri-environment options were added during this process, such as ‘Provide nest boxes for bees (solitary or bumblebees)’ and ‘Implement food labelling schemes relating to biodiversity-friendly farming’. Interventions relating to the creation or management of habitats not considered commercial farmland (such as lowland heath, salt marsh and farm woodland) were removed. The list of interventions was organized into categories based on the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) classifications of direct threats and conservation actions. Interventions that fall under the threat category ‘Agriculture’ are grouped by farming system, with separate sections for interventions that apply to arable or livestock farms, or across all farming types.

Lean thinking is a powerful method that allows organizations to improve the productivity, efficiency and quality of their products or services. Achieving these benefits requires good teamwork, clear communication, intelligent use of resources and a commitment to continuous improvement. This book shows how lean thinking can be applied in practice, highlighting the key challenges and pitfalls. The authors, based at a leading centre for lean enterprise research, begin with an overview of the theory of lean thinking. They then explain the core tools and techniques and show how they can be applied successfully. The detailed implementation of lean thinking is illustrated by several case studies, from a range of industries, in which the authors had unprecedented access to the management teams. With its focus on implementation and practical solutions, this book will appeal to managers at all levels, as well as to business students and researchers in lean thinking.
