Suppose you had one billion dollars in the bank but never used it. So it goes with many Christians-they possess untold riches in Christ but are unwilling to learn of or access the inheritance freely given to them. The Key of David's purpose is to testify to the truth of God's Word and Spirit and to exhort God's people to receive all He has for them, for which Jesus paid the ultimate price. Please join me on a spiritual excursion that, prayerfully, will enlighten, encourage, and empower you through the anointing of the Holy Spirit to accomplish everything God has called you to do "How blessed I was to be engaged in the exciting spiritual journey of Patrice Bates through my reading of her book, 'The Key of David.' I believe that her quest for the fullness of God operating in her life will reward many others as her writings bring layer upon layer of powerful truths and principles to the table for them to glean from. This book is one to read again and again to absorb all of its spiritual richness." -Benny Thomas Author, Teacher Benny Thomas Ministries"Patrice Bates has poured herself into a book that is as much a legal case for the Lordship of Christ as it is a call to go deeper with God. If you like personal testimony of Christ's impact on one's life backed by scripture, you will enjoy the book very much." -Chester Moore Award-winning author, journalist, and radio/podcast host

Gadamer and Wittgenstein on the Unity of Language

Gadamer and Wittgenstein on the Unity of Language

Patrick Rogers Horn

Ashgate Publishing Limited
2005
sidottu
In this innovative comparison of Gadamer and Wittgenstein, the author explores their common concern with the relation of language to reality. Patrick Horn's starting point is the widely accepted view that both philosophers rejected a certain metaphysical account of that relation in which reality determines the nature of language. Horn proceeds to argue that Gadamer never completely escaped metaphysical assumptions in his search for the unity of language. In this respect, argues Horn, Gadamer's work is nearer to the earlier rather than to the later Wittgenstein. The final chapter of the book highlights the work of Wittgenstein’s pupil Rush Rhees, who shows that Wittgenstein's own later emphasis on language games, while doing justice to the variety of language, does less than justice to the dialogical relation between speakers of a language, wherein the unity of language resides. Contrasting Rhees's account of the unity of language with those given by Gadamer and the early Wittgenstein brings out the importance of understanding reality in terms of the life that people share rather than in terms of what philosophers say about reality.

Lisa Downing's comprehensive study of the films of Patrice Leconte traces lines of continuity and revision through a body of apparently disparate films whose "messages" often appear both contradictory and controversial. Pursuing a close reading of the recurrent themes, styles, intertexts and techniques which structure Leconte's filmmaking, Downing re-evaluates Leconte's status as an enigmatic artist offering complex and paradoxical commentary on contemporary questions of sexuality, ethics and identity. This book is the first full-length critical work in English on Leconte's cinema. It provides essential reading for both enthusiasts of French cinema and for those fascinated by the relationship between popular culture and theory.
