UK Prison Chaplain Paul Broadbent looks back over 10 years of prison ministry. Bible passages from the letters of St Paul are reflected upon as well as the lives and offences of a range of inmates that Paul has spent time with. The passages and people hold lessons for all who feel imprisoned by life, by circumstance or by welfare. Gain insights into transformation from the lives of those touched and renewed by St Paul.
The collected reflections on the Stations of the Cross from some community members at Cat D resettlement prison, HMP Thorn Cross, Cheshire, UK. The reflections are honest, sometimes brutal, sometimes self-centered but mostly reflect the impact that crime has had on their own lives, the lives of their victims and, not least, the lives of their family members. In their own way, the Prison community have reflected the journey of Christ told in the Stations of the Cross; of condemnation, rejection, of falls, of help from others, of punishment and seeming failure, yet triumph and recovery from brokenness. Passages accompanying each Station are from the Bible letters of St Paul with space for personal reflection and new commitments. A book, written in the tradition of Henri Nouwen, with reflections to accompany you through the course of a year, and words from St Paul to inspire you for a lifetime. The passages are offered with personal reflections of the writer drawn from life, family and work as a Prison Chaplain.
Diagnosed with a terminal illness or confronted with the sudden loss of someone close can leave us feeling abandoned, angry and low. Whether a person of faith, little or none, the passages chosen from the letters of St Paul, with reflections and commentary are offered as a guide and support for a journey we did not expect to take at this point in life. The words of St Paul are spirit, life and light for those suddenly thrust into a dark place. Each of us are different, but in general it seems that whatever our make-up, we each go through a process of handling and responding to such news. Just as, it would seem, GP's are trained as to protocols for imparting such news, so we too in our own space and time and in our own particular way, have to come to terms with this new reality. There is no right or wrong way to respond and, there is no one text or guide book which will give you the path to bring you painlessly through such a dark or difficult period of life. The aim of this book is simply to be another resource, some parts of which may bring you re-assurance and support if you find yourself in such a place. It is written with care and compassion and no little hope or love for you, and has contributions from others whose lives have also been, and continue to be, touched by the shadow that bad news appears to cast over our lives.Contributors both with medical and personal experience of this journey offer their own personal insights and support.
New Services such as for Internet data and multimedia applications, have caused a fast growing demand for broadband communications. The fundamental technologies for the integration of these services have been developed in the last decade: optical communications, photonic switching, high speed local area networks, Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), ISDN and B-ISDN, Internet packet networks and mobile communications. The development was possible through the dynamic progress in communication and computer technologies and through worldwide standardization activities within ITU-T, the ATM Forum, the IETF, IEEE, ANSI, ETSI and other bodies. These developments have been supported by research and field trial programmes. Past developments, such as about LAN, Internet or ISDN networking technologies, have shown that it needs a time span of 10 years for a new technology from its research stage to its full application. Broadband Communications is just at its onset for full deployment. It will have a dramatic effect not only on the networking situation but on the whole development of information technology throughout our social and economic life, which is expressed by the conference theme ,The Future of Telecommunications". The Broadband Communications conference series of IFIP WG 6. 2 addresses the fundamental technical and theoretical problems related with these technologies. BC '98 is the fourth meeting in a series on conferences being held in Stuttgart, Germany. The previous confernces were held in Estoril, Portugal, in 1992, in Paris, France, in 1994, and in Montreal, Canada, in 1996.

This book outlines the development and perspectives of the Anthropocene concept by Paul J. Crutzen and his colleagues from its inception to its implications for the sciences, humanities, society and politics. The main text consists primarily of articles from peer-reviewed scientific journals and other scholarly sources. It comprises selected articles on the Anthropocene published by Paul J. Crutzen and a selection of related articles, mostly but not exclusively by colleagues with whom he collaborated closely.• In the year 2000 Nobel Laureate Paul J. Crutzen proposed the Anthropocene concept as a new epoch in Earth’s history • Comprehensive collection of articles on the Anthropocene by Paul J. Crutzen and his colleagues• Unique primary research literature and Crutzen’s comprehensive bibliography• Paul Crutzen’s scientific investigations into human influences on atmospheric chemistry and physics, the climate and the Earth system, leading to the conception of the Anthropocene• Reflections on the Anthropocene and its implications• Bibliometric review of the spread of the use of the Anthropocene concept in the Natural and Social Sciences, Humanities and Law
This open access book contains texts by the Nobel laureate Paul J. Crutzen who is best known for his research on ozone depletion. It comprises Crutzen’s autobiography, several pictures documenting important stages of his life, and his most important scientific publications. The Dutch atmospheric chemist is one of the world’s most cited scientists in geosciences. His political engagement makes him a tireless ambassador for environmental issues such as climate change. He popularized the term ‘Anthropocene’ for the current geological era acknowledging the enduring influence of humankind on planet Earth. This concept conceives humans to be a geologic factor, influencing the evolution of our globe and the living beings populating it. The selection of texts is representing Paul Crutzen´s scientific oeuvre as his research interests span from ozone depletion to the climatic impacts of biomass burning, the consequences of a worldwide atomic war – the Nuclear Winter - to geoengineering and the Anthropocene. This book is available open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License via link.springer.com.

Stories of his own challenges and successes through the decades offer examples of how to navigate both with an open mind and readiness to learn. Collectors and aficionados of fine craft will enjoy this immersive experience in fine art, and especially in what leads up to it.
From 1921 until 1948, Paul J. Sachs (1878-1965) offered a yearlong program in art museum training, "Museum Work and Museum Problems," through Harvard University's Fine Arts Department. Known simply as the Museum Course, the program was responsible for shaping a professional field-museum curatorship and management-that, in turn, defined the organisational structure and values of an institution through which the American public came to know art. Conceived at a time of great museum expansion and public interest in the United States, the Museum Course debated curatorial priorities and put theory into practice through the placement of graduates in museums big and small across the land. In this book, authors Sally Anne Duncan and Andrew McClellan examine the role that Sachs and his program played in shaping the character of art museums in the United States in the formative decades of the twentieth century. "The Art of Curating" is essential reading for museum studies scholars, curators, and historians.
