If you have read the first part "The abuse in a well known family." This starts where Jon and His friend/brother have turned their life around after all the secrets have come out. They went on to help others by opening up a youth center for kids. They help this one young lady, they helped her change her life. Jenny is a young lady that her dad abused here in many different ways and her mother was so blinded to it. She couldn't bear to hear anything that her daughter had to say. So Jenny got her own voice to show that, you can stand up for yourself and show that she had the courage and the strength to make things happen. You don't need to sit back and be scared of what is going to happen, and if you are going to make it. Jenny had the thought of killing herself, until she spoke up and said something to someone at the youth center. By doing that she showed the courage and strength she had, and she took a stand to fight for her life and to make every one hear her voice. Thank you, enjoy reading.

The tremendous universal appeal of Terry McMillan's Waiting to Exhale took the book world by storm. With her third novel finally earning her the recognition and respect she richly deserved, Terry McMillan followed up with How Stella Got Her Groove Back, which continued to attract new and loyal fans from all walks of life. In this critical work Richards places these inspirational works, as well as McMillan's earlier writings, in their deserved cultural and literary context. Richards offers an insightful analysis of McMillan's narrative technique, which, while having roots in the blues aesthetic, has created a voice that sings out to readers across the lines of sex and race. McMillan's stories are inhabited by strong, dynamic African American women, yet these characters have universal lessons of life and love to share with all readers who appreciate good fiction.A richly drawn biographical chapter examines the life of McMillan and the influences her own personal experiences have exerted on her writings. In the following chapter, Richards discusses McMillan's place in the literary tradition in which such writers as Zora Neale Hurston paved the way and inspired McMillan to write realistic, yet humorous accounts of the African American romantic experience. Richards devotes a chapter to each of McMillan's first four novels; Mama (1987), Disappearing Acts (1989), Waiting to Exhale (1992), and How Stella Got Her Groove Back (1996). She discusses each novel in terms of plot, narrative style, character development, thematic issues, historical and cultural context, and alternative critical perspective. The comprehensive bibliography, including a list of reviews and index, covers the movie adaptations as well as the books.

Given that slaveholders prohibited the creation of African-style performing objects, is there a traceable connection between traditional African puppets, masks, and performing objects and contemporary African American puppetry? This study approaches the question by looking at the whole performance complex surrounding African performing objects and examines the material culture of object performance.Object Performance in the Black Atlantic argues that since human beings can attribute private, personal meanings to objects obtained for personal use such as dolls, vessels, and quilts, the lines of material culture continuity between African and African American object performance run through objects that performed in ritual rather than theatrical capacity. Split into three parts, this book starts by outlining the spaces where the African American object performance complex persisted through the period of slavery. Part Two traces how African Americans began to reclaim object performance in the era of Jim Crow segregation and Part Three details how increased educational and economic opportunities along with new media technologies enabled African Americans to use performing objects as a powerful mode of resistance to the objectification of Black bodies. This is an essential study for any students of puppetry and material performance, and particularly those concerned with African American performance and performance in North America more broadly.

We're glad to be publishing our fourth book in the Pixels and Bristles(R) series, this one based on a Penn State Alumni Association trip to Cuba in March 2013. We went to Cuba with some expectations, largely based on what we knew about China and how it was evolving from a socialist country to a capitalist one, which is beginning to show in Cuba, and on a short visit to another island in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico. We have sections devoted to the arts and architecture, people, Hemingway, a commune, a farmers' market and finally the catch-all miscellaneous--and not in alphabetical order. We captioned many of the paintings and photographs to provide more information, although we tried not to go overboard when the content was obvious. What can you say about the photograph of a smiling woman or the painting of someone playing a guitar? Many of the photographs were shot as high dynamic range. The photographer has programmed his Nikon to take three exposures. He processed them in Nik Efex Pro 2 and added a filter he modified. The painter chose water color for most of her renditions, although she did paint some on her iPad and did manipulate all in Photoshop. What she did not get to do because of time constraints was paint on her iPad while on the scene. Would that be iPlein Aire? On that note, please continue.

Battlefield Scientology: Exposing L Ron Hubbard's Dangerous "religion"

"Battlefield Scientology: Exposing L.Ron Hubbard's Dangerous Religion" contains 33 articles (& over 50 photos) from Tony Ortega's popular blog ("The Underground Bunker) with intros to the 5 sections by Paulette Cooper ("The Scandal of Scientology." )At last two of the best-known Scientology expos writers team up to tell the whole story... from Scientology celebrities, (and how the church uses and abuses them) to the Sea Org (Scientology's highest level where members who join sign billion-year-contracts to work for them throughout their entire lives) to mysterious deaths, to fair game (from the viewpoint of the attackers as well as the victims) to how Hubbard got some of his (weirder) ideas, to Scientology today (including signs of their decline) and much more. This book was written for people who (think they) know just about everything there is to know about Scientology, to those who know nothing; the stories range from early Hubbard to what is happening today. The chapters were chosen to appeal not only to former Scientologists, but also never-Scientologists, as well as to people who never bought a single book of theirs to those who spent most of their lives and some believe, even their past lives] in it.The 360+ pages and photos reflect not only that what's interesting, but also what's important in understanding what has happened in this church, right down to what's happening today.Tony Ortega has been chronicling events in Scientology since the early '90's and Paulette Cooper wrote the first major expos of Scientology ("The Scandal of Scientology") in 1968. She then spent the next 15 years exposing them while they went after her with vengeance. This is chronicled in Tony's first book, "The Unbreakable Miss Lovely."
