Pawel Althamer is responsible for some of the most expansive artworks of the past decade -- expansive not in the traditional, physical sense but in the social and experiential sense. Though he creates stunning sculptures of the human form, much of his work consists of human interaction, often placing the viewer's own consciousness in the starring role.

The internationally active sculptor and performance artist Pawel Althamer (*1967) often works on projects in planned or chance collaborations that attempt to break open socially charged structures. He examines his self-portrait again and again in a spiritual way, free from any concrete religious viewpoints. Althamer broadens the conventional concept of art with unusual techniques, materials, and approaches. Social initiatives significantly determine his artistic program. The publication is produced on the occasion of the exhibition to mark Pawel Althamer being awarded the 2022 Lovis Corinth Prize and is dedicated to his projects so far as well as to new works. Text in English and German.

Already regarded as one of the most important contemporary British and Polish directors, Pawel Pawlikowski's 2013 receipt of the Academy Award for the Best Foreign Film for his Holocaust drama Ida secured his place in world cinema. Drawing on a series of original interviews with the filmmaker, this first full account of Pawlikowski's extraordinary life and career trajectory charts his departure from Poland in the 1970s via his rarely seen BBC documentaries, From Moscow to Pietushki (1990), Dostoyevski's Travels (1991), Serbian Epics (1992), Tripping with Zhirinovsky (1995), Twockers (1998), and The Stringer (1997) to his international success with Last Resort (2000), My Summer of Love (2004), The Woman in the Fifth (2011), and Ida. Highlighting Pawlikowski's collaborative working practices, personal approach to filmmaking, and different places of residence, the volume analyzes his thematic preoccupation with questions of identity, mapped against seismic historical events and social change in intimate human stories where emotions and characters stand out. Also explored are key stylistic considerations: the outsider's gaze, the aesthetics of dislocation, and Pawlikowski's signature minimalist style, all of which draw on the rich legacy of European art house cinema. Examining the varied production histories of Pawlikowski's films, this volume also offers a larger reflection on the transnational developments in European film, asking how increased mobility and the rise of pan-European film funding challenges the tradition of European art house cinema.

The faithful deprived of the Mass. Persecution and removal of clergy. Promulgation of communism and rampant heresies. Dehumanization, dictatorship, and the destruction of life.Bishop Athanasius Schneider experienced these sufferings growing up in the 1960s in the former Soviet Union, and they are now a reality in the West. A witness to the truth passed down from the apostles, Bishop Schneider explains that, especially since the time of the French Revolution, natural law, order, and a sense of the supernatural have been eroded and replaced, through Freemasonry and other false ideologies, with widespread apostasy, to the point where society is now almost entirely devoid of God.This riveting and climactic interview with Bishop Schneider tackles each and every controversial issue of our time. With charity, wisdom, and occasional humor, Bishop Schneider provides a rich historical and theological perspective with straightforward answers to a profusion of startling questions on topics such as ecumenism, ecology, Mass reforms, the German Church, Hell, Purgatory, sin, heresy, the roles of women in the Church, the traditional liturgy, and much more Amid the encircling darkness, this compendium of straight, authoritative answers elucidates the truths of our Faith with a piercing light. It will make you cheer as it reorients you on your journey with Christ. Be encouraged, as Bishop Schneider provides inspiring insights for the battle. Be enthused to uphold Church teachings and worship God no matter the challenges that may lie ahead. Be strengthened to trust God and follow the examples of the saints. Be energized to live your vocation and stand up courageously in our chaotic times. In The Springtime That Never Came, Bishop Schneider calls for a 1/2 1/2 1/2new apologetics 1/2 1/2 1/2 and 1/2 1/2 1/2re-Catholicization 1/2 1/2 1/2 of countries that have lost the Catholic Faith. He teaches us to avoid the 1/2 1/2 1/2mental gymnastics 1/2 1/2 1/2 caused by theological confusion and assures us that souls return to the Church through repentance and reverence for the Blessed Sacrament, Eucharistic Adoration and processions, Confession, and the Holy Rosary. Bishop Schneider believes our current situation, marked in many places by a deprivation of Holy Mass and Communion, is God's 1/2 1/2 1/2merciful appeal for a true eucharistic conversion of the whole Church. 1/2 1/2 1/2

A decade ago, the corporate world viewed grid computing as a curiosity. Today, it views it as an opportunity--a chance to reduce costs, improve performance, fund new projects, and take advantage of under-utilized capacity. The engineering behind this transformation has been amply documented. Until now, however, little has been written to prepare managers, executives, and other decision-makers to implement grid computing in a sensible and effective way. Grid Computing: The Savvy Manager's Guide examines the technology from a rigorous business perspective, equipping you with the practical knowledge you need to assess your options and determine what grid computing approach is right for your enterprise. This book is heavy on real-world experience, distilling from a rich assortment of case studies the best practices currently at work in a variety of industries. Always attentive to grid computing’s many competitive advantages, it is also realistic about the challenges of selling the idea to staff and making it a part of your company’s culture.

This volume - the first project of its kind in the field - collates c. 1200 biographical entries on Greek sophists and rhetors who flourished in the Roman Empire from the first to the seventh century AD. Ancient Greek sophists, the masters of speech and teachers of rhetoric, constituted one of the most important and interesting intellectual circles of the ancient world. The prosopography provides comprehensive information on sophists and their activities, using abundant and varied source material such as literary texts (including those of the rhetors themselves) and papyrological, epigraphic, and numismatic evidence. Each entry provides data (where available) on sources in which the person is attested, biographical details, career, and rhetorical activity. Prosopography of Greek Rhetors and Sophists of the Roman Empire constitutes a basis and a tool for subsequent in-depth studies on the Greek Sophistic movement, as well as a useful reference book for students and all those interested in the culture of the ancient world.
