ENGLISH DESCRIPTION Is there a supreme creator of the universe, or are we the product of random chance? Is the idea of a compassionate God compatible with the existence of evil in the world? Can reason and science prove the existence of God? All his life, Pedro Garc a Cuartango has reflected on the existence of God and its implications. After growing up in a religious household and receiving a Catholic education, he began having doubts based on his readings in science and philosophy, and what he saw in his own life. This book chronicles his musings on these universal questions. God's Enigma is a sincere and erudite exploration of existential doubt, the suffering that accompanies death, and the search for meaning in an uncertain world. Informed by the author's personal experiences and writings on God by the world's leading philosophers - Plato, Wittgenstein, Kierkegaard, and many others - the author tests our preconceptions and encourages us to think freely about the meaning of life and its inherent connection with God.

This book is about the lessons I have learned over the years and the people whom have been most influential in my life. I decided to write this book because I have been very fortunate in my walk on this side of heaven. It has not been easy and I have had many missteps along the way. But, I know we learn more from our failures rather than successes. In my classes, I often asked the students to write a failure resume. This is not an easy assignment but by doing it we have a chance to look introspectively at why we fail and learn from it as to what to do better the next time. When we succeed we are happy. We celebrate but often fail to look at what we did right and how to do things better as well as what lessons we learned.I am fortunate because I became a Christian at age 19. As I studied my Bible which I had never even seen before age 16, I learned about Jesus Christ and the Apostle Paul. The lessons I learned from studying the Bible have helped me more times than I can count. I rely on these lessons every day. I do not know what I would do if I did not have the wisdom that I found among these pages. I had great parents who loved me and sacrificed for me. They sent me and my brother to America not knowing if they would ever see us again. The goal was to prevent us from falling into communists' hands in Cuba. We were part of the Pedro Pan movement to help children by Americans to get away from Castro and communism.I also have a great wife and we have been married for 34 years. She is strong but loving and has shaped our blended family into a very loving and caring family where there is no competition and everyone loves each other and accepts their differences. All five are living the lives of their dreams. Each has a different sphere of influence, circle of friends, and each is a leader, a good person as well as successful and accomplished.I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I have enjoyed writing it.

After the Nation

After the Nation proposes a series of groundbreaking new approaches to novels, essays, and short stories by Carlos Fuentes and Thomas Pynchon within the framework of a hemispheric American studies. Garcia-Caro offers a pioneering comparativist approach to the contemporary American and Mexican literary canons and their underlying nationalist encodement through the study of a wide range of texts by Pynchon and Fuentes which question and historicize in different ways the processes of national definition and myth-making deployed in the drawing of literary borders. After the Nation looks at these literary narratives as postnational satires that aim to unravel and denounce the combined hegemonic processes of modernity and nationalism while they start to contemplate the ensuing postnational constellations. These are texts that playfully challenge the temporal and spatial designs of national themes while they point to and debase """"holy"""" borders, international borders as well as the internal lines where narratives of nation are embodied and consecrated.

Microfoundations Reconsidered

Microfoundations Reconsidered

Most macroeconomists agree that we live in the age of microfoundations. The recent worldwide financial crisis may have emboldened critics of this microfoundational orthodoxy, but it remains the dominant view that macroeconomic models must go beyond supply and demand functions to the level of individual decision-making, taking into account the general dynamic environment where agents live. Microfoundations Reconsidered seeks to reassess how the relationship of micro and macroeconomics evolved over time. The highly regarded contributors to the book argue that the standard narrative of microfoundations is likely to be unreliable. They therefore re-examine the history of the relationship of microeconomics and macroeconomics, starting from their emergence as self-consciously distinct fields within economics in the early 1930s. They seek to go beyond the conventional history that is often told and written by practicing economists. From different perspectives they challenge the association of microfoundations with Robert Lucas and rational expectations and offer both a more complete and a deeper reading of the relationship between micro and macroeconomics. Microfoundations Reconsidered is a valuable addition to the macroeconomic research literature. It is ideally suited to students, scholars, researchers, and practitioners with an interest in macro and microeconomics and the history of economics. Contributors: M. De Vroey, P. Garcia Duarte, D.W. Hands, K.D. Hoover, R. Leonard, G.T. Lima, P.E. Mirowski
