The Dark Side of Reform: Exploring the Impact of Public Policy on Racial Equity contains nine chapters on the development of social policies with the potential to advance racial equity. In addition to studying these policies and their implications, the chapters in this volume demonstrate how lessons from the past can be used to inform the direction of current discussions. At the heart of these conversations are concerns about whether Black people, in particular, will receive the full benefit of transformative laws that may emerge in the coming years. The volume also offers recommendations on implementing policies that address the unique concerns of structurally disadvantaged communities with particular emphasis on Black and Latinx people.

Your Luminous Self is one of the life-works of elder witch Penny Novack, a collection of poetry celebrating the Goddesses, the Self and Soul, the Cosmos itself. "The evidence of divine inspiration, of her intimate access to her Muse, shows in every poem Penny Novack writes. To celebrate such talent and skill in our midst - What a joy! What a pleasure!" -M. Macha Nightmare, P&W About the Author: Penny entered into service to the Goddess and Witchcraft in 1969 and she and her life-mate, Michael, began organising Pagan festival events in 1972. The Goddess is not her jailer but the vast Mystery to be found in every sacred event.
Divinely Dressed: Putting on Garments of Grace
You are a Daughter of the King; a new creation, dearly loved, and chosen to wear the royal garments that reflect your true identity in Him. DIVINELY DRESSED: PUTTING ON GARMENTS OF GRACE is a spiritual makeover; a transformative journey for God's woman to find her true identity in Christ; to see herself through His eyes, and to exchange the old clothes of the world for garments so full of grace that the image of His glory will radiate from her life onto those around her. "You have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator" (Colossians 3: 9-10). Using Paul's letter to the Colossians as a guide, this eight-lesson study will shepherd those seeking individually or together in groups, through the important steps involved in setting aside the tattered, worn fashions which may not flatter the Christ-life, and replace them with qualities that compliment her so much better. She will learn who she is in Christ, and what garments best represent her identity in Him. She will discover how to put on the graces of Christ that will better serve to protect, identify, and beautify the woman she was created to be. She will walk away from this beauty consultation transformed, with a refreshed wardrobe that unmistakably reveals her identity as a daughter of the King. DIVINELY DRESSED: PUTTING ON GARMENTS OF GRACE: * 8-lesson bible study based on Colossians 3:1-17 * Reflection questions at the end of each chapter * Suited for individuals or class study * Easy to Carry - 6"x 9" - 150 pages
Transforming University Biochemistry Teaching Using Collaborative Learning and Technology
One aim of Gilmer’s captivating text on university pedagogy is to show that biochemistry (or any science) does not consist solely of facts to be learned, but is a way of thinking about the world. Her purpose, both in this book and in her classroom, is to make her students into critical thinkers rather than passive learners. The chapters cast a critical eye over research into enhanced education techniques such as collaborative learning. Gilmer describes the action research she conducted in her own biochemistry undergraduate classroom into ways of improving the learning environment. She offers various perspectives on the make-up of her classroom, including an analysis of ethnographic data. The tools Gilmer employs as she hones her teaching skills include collaborative learning and technology. She views the classroom through various theoretical perspectives: social constructivism, cultural-historical activity theory, and a theory that involves the dialectic between the structure of the learning environment and the agency of the learners (a group among whom she includes herself). She provides a wealth of autobiographical detail as well as the results of her action research, which followed up on its original subjects after an interval of 11 years, to see what impact her course had on their professional growth. Above all, this volume is proof of what can be achieved in education when teachers are as interested in the process of learning as they are in their subject itself.
