The purpose of this book is to evaluate the debate on partnership, using original research data. Samuel provides a novel categorisation with which to synthesise and clarify a highly diverse literature on labour-management partnership, thus helping to refine the contemporary partnership debate. Secondly, he clarifies the circumstances under which ‘effective’ labour-management partnership is possible, while simultaneously elaborating why the achievement of ‘mutual gains’ is highly improbable in a liberal-market context. Thirdly, the book presents an integrated analysis of the interplay between macro-, meso- (industry) and micro-level factors. Fourthly, the research design enables the study to go beyond the case studies to make defendable empirical generalizations at the level of the industry. Finally, it advances a theoretical explanation of labour-management partnerships in ‘liberal market’ economies by bridging two opposing neo-institutional positions in the social sciences.

With the euphoria of the American elections past and the world struggling to come to grips with the financial panic that seem about to overwhelm it, Pat O'Connelly returns to Dublin. The contrast between the city's bleak landscape and the bright skies of Miami could not have been starker. As his taxi made its way through the city centre, the Christmas lights, which still decorated the streets, gave off a strange glare in the early evening fog. The driver sniffed and mumbled that they 'would do little feckin good for the working man, with jobs melting away like good Irish butter on toast'.The millions of twinkling lights that decorated O'Connell Street made a sad contrast with the gloomy atmosphere that had descended on the city, dampening its usual festive spirit. After two decades of prosperity Dubliners had forgotten what an economic crisis was and were desperately trying to come to terms with the calamity that had struck them.

A murder. A village of secrets. One detective who won't back down. Freshly reassigned to Scotland Yard's Serious Crime Division-and demoted back to Inspector-Amadeus Rupert is sent to the sleepy village of Tringford to investigate the brutal Halloween murder of sixteen-year-old chambermaid Janice Calderwood. But what begins as a straightforward cold case quickly unravels into a web of lies, illicit affairs, hidden identities, and whispered rituals in a community that closes ranks the moment outsiders arrive. From the frostbitten riverbank where Janice's body was found-naked, throat slit, wrists slashed-to the eerie ruins of a cursed church where bonfires burn under the full moon, Rupert must navigate a landscape of deception. The hotel owner and his flirtatious wife, the vicar's enigmatic spouse, a chemist with a secret past, and a barber who knows more than he lets on-all are suspects in a village where everyone has something to hide. Set in post-war 1950s England, The Village of Suspects blends classic British detective fiction with gothic atmosphere and psychological depth. With sharp dialogue, meticulous period detail, and a protagonist as flawed as he is brilliant, this first installment in An Inspector Rupert Mystery series will keep readers guessing until the final, chilling revelation. Perfect for fans of Inspector Morse, Midsomer Murders, and Agatha Christie-with a dash of occult intrigue and moral ambiguity.
Truth and Politics

Truth and Politics

One of the perennial questions in political theology is how the concept of truth is defined and how such is grounded theologically. The answer to this determines, to a great degree, theological engagement with and appropriations of political systems and theological accounts of political and social order. Truth and Politics tackles this crucial question through an analysis and comparison of the thought of two of the most important contemporary Catholic and Protestant theologians, Joseph Ratzinger (Benedict XVI) and John Milbank. Peter Samuel Kucer here traces out the critical question of the relationship of theology and politics, particularly as it intersects with ecclesiology, through a focus on the issue of the theological relationship to socialism. In this, Kucer demonstrates the competing accounts in the theologies of Joseph Ratzinger and John Milbank, arguing that Ratzinger's theology is oriented in such a way that it maintains a provisional openness with regard to political forms in contrast to Milbank's work, which subscribes to a particular pattern of church and politics.
God as Father and Priests as Fathers, Brothers, Bridegrooms and Disciples
The vocation to the priesthood does not simply entail doing specific actions that only priests can perform. Being a priest essentially means being grounded in a unique identity, participating in the headship of Christ. More specifically, this means priests are to understand themselves in a relational way, as fathers, brothers, bridegrooms, and disciples. This book presents a relational understanding of the priesthood in two parts. Part one reflects on the mystery of the priesthood from the perspective of father. Part two reflects on the priesthood from the viewpoint of bridegroom. In these sections, what Revelation teaches regarding priests as fathers, brothers, bridegrooms and disciples is presented and clarified by Catholic wisdom throughout the ages, including from modern times.

Catholic Church History: Pre-Christian to Modern Times presents how the Catholic Church developed in time, from her earliest days up until modern times. Repeatedly the reader will encounter Christ's mystical presence extended through time by the Church as His body. The various aspects of the Church, such as prefigured, persecuted, mother, teacher, shepherd, and prophet, all are touched upon as the reader reads the Church's history. While presenting the Church in her full splendor and holiness in her pilgrim state on earth, borrowing words from the International Theological Commission, her "maternal solidarity" as she "assum es] the weight of her children's faults in maternal solidarity" are also discussed.

East and South East Asian History studies the historical development of countries that make up East Asia (China, Taiwan, Japan, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea) and countries that make up South East Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, East Timor). Although each of these countries and regions has a unique identity, they share common philosophies, customs, and practices.
