National Conference on Communicating Sustainable Development Goals: Book of Abstracts
The Department of Media and Communication Studies, Jagannath International Management School, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, has convened its National Conference on Communicating Sustainable Development Goals to bring together experts from the academia, public and private sector as also NGOs, CBOs, Corporates and the Government to share with the participating students and faculties their views and experiences in communicating the Global Goals. The institute is a member of the United Nations Global Compact, New York and has taken upon itself the responsibility of incorporating the awareness generation and research into the achievement of SDGs in its curricular and co-curricular activities. Communicating Sustainable Development Goals Speaking in the Global Festival of Ideas for Sustainable Development organized in 2018 by the UN SDG Action Campaign in partnership with the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) with the support of the German Government, Ms. Cristina Gallach, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information remarked, "We have to make the world aware of this ...] agenda that is definitely going to transform the planet and that is going to ensure that no one is left behind." "The more we communicate about the SDGs and make people aware of the agenda, the more the governments will be accountable and will ensure that it is implemented," she added. However, the communication of the SDGs among the people in different countries has not kept pace with the expected levels so that there may be a critical impact on the achievement of SDGs. It is with this reality in mind that the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) has attempted to make this into a movement by bringing within its ambit non-governmental institutions: corporate organizations and higher educational institutions. The term sustainable development has been generally described as to achieve a sustainable society. This means a society in which economy and population size are managed in such a way that they do not do irrevocable harm to the environment by overloading the planet's ability to absorb waste and pollution, replenish its resources, and sustain human and other forms of life over a specified period of time. In a sustainable society, the needs of people are fulfilled without draining and depleting of the resources and thereby reducing the prospects of the present and future generations of humans and other species. The objectives of sustainable development often are mentioned as reviving growth; changing the quality of growth; meeting essential needs for jobs, food, energy, water, and sanitation; ensuring a sustainable level of population; conserving and enhancing the resource base; reorienting technology and managing risk; and merging environment and economics in decision-making. Though, some of the factors like maximization of economic growth are well conceived by the concept of development, but, the traditional developmental concept does not take into account factors like environmental degradation, the happiness of human beings and increase in social problems etc.

Reciprocity has been critical in the philosophy and social sciences of the 20th century. Over the last seven decades, several countries settled by European powers have become autonomous, and returning has become a challenge. Consequently, writing on reciprocity as a central theme requires time and implies a deep dedication to the community. There is a need to explore the factors and policies behind the study agendas and secret philosophies before and after European involvement. Reciprocity and Its Practice in Social Research aims to open the controlled consciousness of self as a human being and then as a scholar to the community via the methodological lens. It analyzes reciprocity from the Greek tradition to Medeabale Arab to the early colonial or pre-colonial period. It specifically addresses the benefit of social research on the community and seeks ways to revolutionize and improve current research and academic processes. Covering topics such as the philosophy of science, indigenous science, and Western metaphysics, this book is an essential resource for anthropologists, philosophers, sociologists, university faculty and administration, students of higher education, librarians, researchers, and academicians.

The drawing of glass into fine filaments is an ancient technology, older than the technology of glass blowing. Winding coarse glass fibers onto a clay mandrel was used as an early manufacturing route for a vessel. With the advent of glass blowing, similar fiber technologies were used to decorate goblets. In the 1700s, R aumur recognized that glass could be finely spun into fiber that was sufficiently pliable to be woven into textiles. Napoleon's funeral coffin was decorated with glass fiber textiles. Fiber optic technology was developed in the early 1970's and is rapidly replacing traditional copper cable for transmitting information over hundreds to thousands of miles. Rather than send data in the form of electrons, fiber optic technology uses photons, or light. Fiber optic cable is made of many thin strands of coated glass fibers. Each measures about eight microns - that's smaller than a strand of human hair. Digitized information is "coded," or placed on to light pulses for transmission. It travels along the glass fiber at the speed of light - 186,000 miles per second. When it reaches its destination, a decoder converts the light information into a picture, audio sound or written material in a form we can understand. Fiber optic cables now cross the world's oceans to connect many countries together. Whether you are in Mauritius, Australia or the United States, you are probably viewing Dive and Discover at the end of tiny, nearly continuous strands of glass that reach all the way from Woods Hole, Massachusetts to you. To make sure you receive all the information, the fibers are made of ultra-pure glass so that the light pulses are not distorted or weakened.

Introduction to EEG- and Speech-Based Emotion Recognition Methods examines the background, methods, and utility of using electroencephalograms (EEGs) to detect and recognize different emotions. By incorporating these methods in brain-computer interface (BCI), we can achieve more natural, efficient communication between humans and computers. This book discusses how emotional states can be recognized in EEG images, and how this is useful for BCI applications. EEG and speech processing methods are explored, as are the technological basics of how to operate and record EEGs. Finally, the authors include information on EEG-based emotion recognition, classification, and a proposed EEG/speech fusion method for how to most accurately detect emotional states in EEG recordings.
