Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry has been written keeping in mind the severe need for a comprehensive text to meet the curriculum needs of the undergraduate pharmacy students. Rabindranath Tagore und sein Werk erregten in den zwanziger Jahren grosses Aufsehen in Deutschland. Hier wird die Rezeption Tagores anhand seiner Buhnenstucke, die in Deutschland aufgefuhrt wurden, untersucht, denn ihre Wirkung und damit die Aufnahme Tagores kann faktisch belegt werden. Zwar ging ein grosser Teil des Dokumentationsmaterials im Zweiten Weltkrieg verloren, doch konnte genugend Material ausfindig gemacht werden, um die Wirkung Tagores an der deutschen Buhne einschatzen zu konnen. Der historische Hintergrund, der die Aufnahme Tagores in Deutschland ermoglichte, wird kurz skizziert und auf die Bedeutung sowohl des Exotismus wie auch des politischen Aspektes fur die Rezeption Tagores hingewiesen. Da die deutschen Ubersetzer die Dramen Tagores nicht aus dem bengalischen Original, sondern aus dem Englischen ubertrugen, wird die Qualitat der deutschen Ubersetzung anhand zahlreicher vergleichender Textbeispiele uberpruft. Die erstellten Auffuhrungsstatistiken und gesammelten Rezensionen beleuchten die Aufnahme der Stucke durch das deutsche Publikum. Zum Schluss wird festgestellt, dass der Erfolg Tagores in Deutschland der Zwanziger Jahre ungemein gross, aber doch zeitbegrenzt und zeitbedingt war."
