Kerran minut mursi yksi luomakunnan keveimmistä. Se löytyi huhtikuisesta puutarhasta herukkapensaan alta. Tuskin sitä erotti keltaruskeiden, märkien heinänkorsien sylistä, jotka pois sulava lumi hiljalleen vapautti otteestaan. Pieni perhosentoukan kotelo, jonka yli melkein talloin. Vetovoima elämän lupauksesta sen sisällä sai minut poimimaan sen talteen. Halusin nähdä elääkö se. Tuleeko siitä perhonen? Meni aikaa, eikä pienessä purkissa ikkunanlaudalla näyttänyt tapahtuvan mitään. Syntymättä jäi. Kehtoonsa kuoli pieni ja hauras taideteos, jota kukaan ei päässyt ihailemaan. Näin surullisena tuumin. Mutta yhtenä iltapäivänä auringonsäteen suudellessa ikkunalaudan hilseilevää valkoista maalipintaa, havahduin rapinaan. Mikä lapsellinen riemu ja ihastunut huokaisu suustani pääsikään nähdessäni perhosen kuoriutuvan. Kuin olisin seurannut suurta näytelmää. Miten jokin noin pieni ja sinänsä vähäpätöinen asia maailmankaikkeudessa voikin vangita ja lumota ihmisen liikkumattomaksi? Hyvä, että uskalsin hengittää. Tunsin itseni etuoikeutetuksi. Perhonen pääsi ulos kotelostaan ja minun täytyi varovasti ottaa se sormelleni, ihan vain ihmetelläkseni sitä. Tunsin sen värisevän, kun se alkoi suoristaa siipiään, jotka vielä olivat kasassa pitkän vankeuden jäljiltä. Se tarvitsi aikaa, joten laitoin sen takaisin purkkiin.Myöhemmin palasin huoneeseen ja kuulin taas rapinaa. Perhoseni yritti lennähdellä purkissaan. Valo kutsui sitä ikkunan takaa. Ei se ollut vapaa, vankila oli vain aavistuksen edellistä isompi. Näin kun se yhä uudelleen törmäsi purkin seinämiin ja sen siivet hakkasivat villin tanssin tahdissa. Näky oli surullinen. Minun täyty antaa sen mennä, eihän sitä oltu tarkoitettu purkkiin. Kävelin rappuset alas purkki käsissäni, haistoin kevään.Monikaan asia ei ole koskenut minuun yhtä paljon kuin se, että näin tuon pienen perhosen katoavan sinistä taivasta vasten. Joka siivenisku löi sisimpääni tuskallisen kaiun tietoisuudesta: mitä olla vapaa. Perhosella oli jotain, mitä minulla ei ollut.Voiko perhosen siivenisku murtaa sydämen? Kyllä se voi. Olin perhosille kateellinen.Ihmisen syntyminen ja kasvaminen persoonaksi on yksi maailmankaikkeuden upeimpia näytelmiä- ei, ei se olekaan näytelmää, se on totta.

Jean Sibelius war im NS-Staat so etwas wie der finnische Wagner. Obwohl er selbst nicht aktiv dazu beitrug, wurde er gefoerdert wie kaum ein anderer auslandischer Komponist. Anhand zahlreicher Archivalien untersucht dieses Buch Zusammenhange und Hintergrunde des nationalsozialistischen Sibelius-Kults. Zum Teil erstmals ausgewertete Dokumente und statistische Erhebungen der Autorin zeigen auch, dass die Sibelius-Foerderung durch das NS-Regime in den Medien (Konzert, Funk, Film, Schallplatte, Presse und Literatur) und in der breiten Masse der Bevoelkerung keinen adaquaten Niederschlag fand. Dort hielten sich vielmehr traditionelle Klischees, die auch nach dem Krieg in der BRD wie in der DDR eine nuchterne Auseinandersetzung mit dem Komponisten und seiner in Deutschland von jeher politisch gepragten Rezeption verhinderten. Ausgehend vom Fall Sibelius bietet dieses Buch viele neue Einblicke in das deutsche Musikleben der NS-Zeit wie uberhaupt des 20. Jahrhunderts.
