Brewed at Altitude: A Beer Lover's History of Colorado

It started flowing during the gold rush, when saloons were much more than just a place to grab a drink. They were post offices, restaurants, hotels, social clubs, union halls, and more. But then, Colorado banned alcohol--four years before Prohibition hit the rest of the country--and a state born in a saloon ran dry for almost twenty years. Beer led the way back, and by the 1970s, brewing was big business again--really big business. Now, homebrewers have gone pro, and Colorado is one of the best places in the world to grab a brew. Join historians Sam Bock and Jason Hanson on a tour of Colorado history as seen through a pint glass. More than just a tale of ale, this is Colorado's story--told over a few beers."This isn't just a book about beer. It's a book about us. The beauty of beer is that it intertwines with so many other aspects of life--history, cultural significance, and economic impact. Bock and Hanson explore those threads offering a unique understanding as to why Colorado has become a thriving hub for beer culture The stories, insights, as well as the connection to present day and the future of brewing is the perfect read for anyone. Bonus--you have permission to enjoy a cold brew while reading " --Karen Hertz, Chief Brewista and Founder, Holidaily Brewing Company

Johann Bernhard Basedow’s Method Book for Fathers and Mothers of Families and Nations (1773) and Friedrich Samuel Bock’s Textbook of the Art of Education for the Use of Christian Parents and Future Teachers of Youth (1780) were key texts used by Kant in his lectures on education during the 1770s and 1780s.Now translated into English for the first time, Robert Loudon explores how both works not only served as the basis for Kant’s Lectures on Pedagogy (1803) and related Reflexionen, but also had a broad influence on the practical, anthropological and religious dimensions of his philosophy. Featuring an introduction and accompanying notes on both texts, this translation places Kant’s philosophy of education into context, comparing his thinking with the ideas laid out by Basedow and Bock. Loudon also investigates the requirement and Kant’s decision to switch to using Bock’s Textbook of the Art of Education in 1780.This is a valuable resource for any student or scholar interested in Kant’s thoughts on education, pedagogy and philosophical anthropology, as well as the period of educational reform during the Enlightenment.

This keepsake edition of Samuel was taken from the King James translation of the Bible. The King James Translation is a masterwork of style, and the most important book in the English language, it has been the driving force in shaping the English-speaking world for hundreds of years. The First Book of Samuel begins with the prophet Samuel's birth and God's call to him as a boy. The story of the Ark of the Covenant that follows tells of Israel's oppression by the Philistines, which brought about Samuel's anointing of Saul as Israel's first king. But Saul proved unworthy and God's choice turned to David, who defeated Israel's enemies, purchased the threshing floor, where his son, Solomon built the Temple and brought the Ark to Jerusalem. God then promised David and his successors an everlasting dynasty.

This keepsake edition of the second book of Samuel was taken from the King James translation of the Bible. The King James Translation is a masterwork of style, and the most important book in the English language, it has been the driving force in shaping the English-speaking world for hundreds of years. The Second Book of Samuel begins as David learns that Saul and Jonathan were killed in battle at Mount Gilboa. The elders of Judah anoint David as king, but in the north Saul's son Ish-bosheth, or Ishbaal, rules over the northern tribes. After a long war, Ishbaal is murdered by Rechab and Baanah, two of his captains who hope for a reward from David; but David has them killed for killing God's anointed. David is then anointed King of all Israel. David captures Jerusalem and brings the Ark there. David wishes to build a temple, but Nathan tells him that one of his sons will be the one to build the temple. David defeats the enemies of Israel, slaughtering Philistines, Moabites, Edomites, Syrians and Arameans.

A life recovering from many years of heartbreak and destruction is never perfect or always easy. It's about striving to do better and to be a better person. Rewards outweigh the discouragement. While following God's will, blessings are exponential and more exciting than I ever could have imagined. My attitude and focus on life are much more than just me. I enjoy being with like-minded people and enjoy precious time spent with family. My legacy is important now while before, it would have been sad and tragic. Before Christ, I just existed and cared mainly about myself. My personal successes are secondary while I live with very little fear of loss or destruction. My relationship with Jesus Christ is first, and he solves my fears. He is all meaningful. Give God a chance. It is the only true way to live.

Samuel, the man of God, was instrumental in the transition of a loose confederacy of Hebrew tribes to a centralized monarchy. The book of Samuel starts with his birth and ends with Saul's death on Mount Gilboa. The character of Samuel, who has been equally compared to Moses and Aaron, serves as a link between the various stories. In two major speeches Samuel rejects the idea of monarchy; still, as a loyal servant of the Lord, he anoints Saul as the first king of Israel and later, he anoints David. Why did Samuel vehemently reject the idea of kingship? Did Samuel have his own agenda, and was his opposition to the monarchy motivated by his own personal aspiration? There are several titles that label him: priest, prophet, seer, judge, and "the man of God." Who was Samuel? Nowhere else in the Hebrew Bible is there a description of a person such as Samuel, who was raised from the grave and delivered a message of doom. Readers of this volume will rediscover Samuel through a better understanding of achievements and failures.
