Astyanax fasciatus conocida como pepesca, es una especie nativa de la regi n Mesoamericana, es una especie carn vora y se alimenta de insectos, larvas, peque os peces e invertebrados, habita en las zonas tropicales, sin embargo la sobrepesca en r os, lagos y lagunas, ha hecho que sus stocks hayan disminuido significativamente en diferentes zonas de pesca del pa s, habita en las zonas tropicales y se encuentra en los cuerpos de agua cerrados y de corriente r pida, tolera agua salobre. El desove fu inducido por primera vez mediante m todo natural, luego mediante un shock t rmico y por ltimo se utiliz la t cnica del fotoperiodo en donde se logro obtener descendencia representativa que permiti recopilar informaci n sobre las variables, factores, t cnicas y par metros que influyeron en la reproducci n de la sardina de agua dulce o pepesca Astyanax fasciatus, en condiciones controladas.
