Shawna's journey takes some twists and turns as travels to discover her "Real Home". Her secret would have to stay hidden from most of her family. She thought of it as her "inner demon" and it shaped her life. One that involved lots of travel and adventure. In Paris, she fell in love with a fellow traveler who changed her life, for better or worse. Their relationship was full of challenges and of lessons learned. How could she come to terms with her "inner demon"? Can we change our fate or karma? Does love really conquer all? This book is based on a true story of an independent woman's search for her true self and the meaning of life, and how she found answers in unexpected places. Let the journey begin...

A WORKBOOK FOR HUMAN SERVICE PROFESSIONALS READY TO LIBERATE THEIR MIND, BODY AND SOUL: THIS IS "THE WORK" TO GET CENTERED EMOTIONALLY AND SPIRITUALLY SO YOU CAN FINALLY HOLD SPACE FOR TRUE COLLECTIVE TRANSFORMATION.You took the training to be "trauma-informed" and it was not enough Too many of us are on the brink of burnout. Our people are dying and we feel the pain in our bones. Our work requires authenticity and embodiment. Our work must honor ancestral and present day truths of Native, Indigenous and African people across the globe. The human service sector has been working to perpetuate harm; everything has been transactional instead of transformational. In order to sustain in the movement, human service professionals must accept the responsibility to both disrupt the status quo AND engage in collective care. Over the past several years, Shawna Murray-Browne, LCSW-C has shown social workers, therapists, administrators, educators, activists and health professionals that healing themselves is bound to serving others. This book is an extension of those spaces and is designed to serve as a "container" for your journey. The Return to Presence Workbook features: Insight on mind-body healing, liberation and its relevance to the human service sector; worksheets with activities to commune with your truest self through embodiment exercises, drawing, generational reflection, breath work, imagery, forgiveness and movement; blank journal pages for you to reflect deeply; and more

Jack longs to be a pirate. He loves everything about the job, from the peacefulness of the ocean to the opportunity to make new friends to the excitement of exotic travel. Jack also loves to dance, from the graceful glide of the glissade to the energetic leap of the grand jet ; to the controlled kick of the grand battement. In fact, Jack often dances as he does his pirate apprentice chores. Unfortunately, Captain Squinty Eye's number one pirate-ship rule is PIRATES DON'T DANCE. Dancing is too silly and not fitting for a rough, tough pirate. What will it take for Jack to convince Captain Squinty Eye that dancing is not a bad thing, and may even help Jack be a better pirate? Or will Jack and his dreams get tossed overboard? An empowering and relatable story about staying true to yourself and following your dreams. Back matter includes explanations of dance movements, as well as definitions of pirate speak.

This book presents a mathematical programming approach to the analysis of production frontiers and efficiency measurement. The authors construct a variety of production frontiers, and by measuring distances to them are able to develop a model of efficient producer behaviour and a taxonomy of possible types of departure from efficiency in various environments. Linear programming is used as an analytical and computational technique in order to accomplish this. The approach developed is then applied to modelling producer behaviour. By focusing on the empirical relevance of production frontiers and distances to them, and applying linear programming techniques to artificial data to illustrate the type of information they can generate, this book provides a unique study in applied production analysis. It will be of interest to scholars and students of economics and operations research, and analysts in business and government.

Attention to care in modern society has fallen out of view as an ethos of personal responsibility, free markets, and individualism has taken hold. The Liberalism of Care argues that contemporary liberalism is suffering from a crisis of care, manifest in a decaying sense of collective political responsibility for citizens’ well-being and for the most vulnerable members of our communities. Political scientist Shawn C. Fraistat argues that we have lost the political language of care, which, prior the nineteenth century, was commonly used to express these dimensions of political life. To recover that language, Fraistat turns to three prominent philosophers—Plato, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and William Godwin—who illuminate the varied ways caring language and caring values have structured core debates in the history of Western political thought about the proper role of government, as well as the rights and responsibilities of citizens. The Liberalism of Care presents a distinctive vision for our liberal politics where political communities and citizens can utilize the ethic and practices of care to face practical challenges.

WHY ME? I thought nobody could understand the torment of what I was going through; my hurts, habits and addictions. Have you ever felt hopeless, alone, and empty or that there was no way out? Have you thought that you had messed things up so badly that there was no way to make sense of it? I have asked all those questions and so many more. I had lost all meaning and purpose in my life. I was on a path of self-destruction and killing myself from the inside, out. I was out of control and no one could stop me. However, this was not the end, just the beginning. This is my story of how I had to lose everything...to gain everything I had to die twice to finally see things clearly for the first time in my crazy life. My prayer is that you find hope, meaning and purpose in your life through the only One who can truly free you from any hurt, brokenness, or addiction you may be struggling with. Put God in the center of your life, and no matter where you or what you're struggling with, God can and will restore your life " With GOD all things are possible." Mark 10:27

Jacksonville, Florida, was the king of the infant film industry. Devastated by fire in 1901, rebuilt in a wide variety of architectural styles, sharing the same geographic and meteorological DNA as southern California, the city was an ideal location for northern film production companies looking to relocate. In 1908, New York-based Kalem Studios sent its first crew to Jacksonville. By 1914, fifteen major companies - including Fox and Metro Pictures - had set up shop there. Oliver Hardy, D. W. Griffith, Mary Pickford, and the Barrymores all made movies in the Florida sunshine. In total, nearly 300 films, including the first Technicolor picture ever made, were completed in Jacksonville by 1928.But the city couldn't escape its past. Even as upstart Hollywood boosters sought to discredit Jacksonville, the latter imploded from a combination of political upheaval, simmering racial tensions, disease, and World War I. Shawn Bean uses first-person accounts, filmmaker biographies, newspaper reports, and city and museum archives to bring to light a little-known aspect of film history. Filled with intrigue, backroom shenanigans, and missed opportunities, ""The First Hollywood"" is just the kind of drama we've come to expect from the big screen. There wasn't always just one Tinseltown.
