This volume enhances our understanding of the many readings the figure of Telamonian Ajax underwent in its passage through Roman culture. While a few occurrences have already received critical attention, this study provides a thorough examination of the various forms Ajax took in Latin literature, from the early Republic to the early Empire. Indeed, single instances only reveal their fully synchronic and diachronic significance when placed in the complex array of the Roman Ajax(es). Furthermore, tracing the explicit and implicit resonances of Ajax’s myth sheds light on strategies of inter-cultural appropriation (Greece–Rome) and intra-cultural evolution (within the Roman world), for the varied Ajax-resonances mirror the redefinitions of identity that ‘Rome’ itself underwent throughout its history. This study addresses a significant gap in the growing body of scholarly literature on Ajax and his manifestations in ancient culture. It evaluates the role played by this originally-not-Roman heroic identity in Roman culture, which is in fact capable of holding up a mirror to Rome’s cultural identity. It also provides, as a corollary, a milestone for a broader understanding of Ajax’s multifaceted afterlife in Western culture.

The present work has the scope to present the fundamentals of the new criminal Laws and criminal executionary law in Romania, and the relation with other juridical institutions and branches of law existing in Romania. Prerequisites for the understanding of the present work are: a minimum knowledge of law, an understanding of criminal law, punishments, the system of law of the EU and the ECHR, democracy, rule of law, supremacy of constitution and so on. The legislation on criminal accountability has constantly grown due to increase in crime. In this context the laws regarding executionary law have evolved also, and in addition we have an increased interest on behalf of the state to intensify the process of reeducation and social integration of those punished for criminal acts. Thus Romania has undergone a process of transforming it's penal laws starting February 2014 with the entering into force of the New Criminal Code and New Criminal Procedures Code and other related laws. We, the authors, hope you will find in this book a starting point in the process of knowing the Romanian criminal law system.

The Romance of the Rose was one of the most important works of medieval vernacular literature. It was composed in the thirteenth century and exerted a profound influence on literature in France, England, the Netherlands and Italy for the next 200 years. In this book, Sylvia Huot investigates how medieval readers understood the text, assessing the evidence to be found in well over 200 surviving manuscripts: annotations, glosses, illuminations, marginal doodles, rewritings, expansions and abridgements. This allows a picture to emerge of the interests and concerns of its readers, including such important fourteenth-century figures as the monastic author Guillaume de Deguilleville and the court poet Guillaume de Machaut. The book contains analyses of individual versions of the poem. It offers an interesting perspective on the interpretative difficulties of this learned and complex poem.
