Maintenance of the information embedded in the genomic DNA sequence is essential for life. DNA polymerases play pivotal roles in the complex processes that maintain genetic integrity. Besides their tasks in vivo, DNA polymerases are the workhorses in numerous biotechnology applications such as the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), cDNA cloning, next generation sequencing, nucleic acids based diagnostics and in techniques to analyze ancient and otherwise damaged DNA (e.g. for forensic applications). Moreover, some diseases are related to DNA polymerase defects and chemotherapy through inhibition of DNA polymerases is used to fight HIV, Herpes and Hepatitis B and C infections. This book focuses on (i) biology of DNA polymerases, (ii) medical aspects of DNA polymerases and (iii) biotechnological applications of DNA polymerases. It is intended for a wide audience from basic scientists, to diagnostic laboratories, to companies and to clinicians, who seek a better understanding and the practical use of these fascinating enzymes.

Il villaggio di Bressanone-Stufles (Alto Adige, Italia) stato oggetto di decennali indagini archeologiche che hanno confermato un'occupazione lungo tutta l'et del Ferro (VI-I sec. a.C.). L'ampio bacino di ossa animali analizzato, a cui sono stati aggiunti i dati editi di studi precedenti, ha permesso di formulare ipotesi sulla paleo-economia adottata dal villaggio e di stabilire un modello socio-economico dell'area retica.L'economia si basava primariamente sull'allevamento di bovini e ovicaprini al fine di sfruttarne i prodotti secondari (trazione, latte, riproduzione, lana). Integrando approcci diversi, archeologico e sociale, si tentato di stabilire le diverse destinazioni funzionali del villaggio e la presenza di gruppi sociali differenziati. L'analisi delle dimensioni degli animali si rivelata utile per valutarne i cambiamenti in senso cronologico e geografico con le regioni confinanti. Ci , assieme alla scoperta di un reperto riferibile ad un asino, ha aperto la strada ad ipotesi di legami con il mondo etrusco e mediterraneo.The village of Bressanone-Stufles (South Tyrol, Italy) has been the subject of archaeological investigations for decades; the excavations have confirmed a continuity of occupation throughout the Iron Age (6th-1st c. BC). The large animal bone assemblage analysed in this study, which includes published data from previous publication as well as unpublished materials, made it possible to formulate hypotheses on the palaeo-economy adopted by the human group inhabiting this village and to establish a socio-economic model for the Rhaetian area.The economy at the site was primarily based on the rearing of cattle and sheep/goats to exploit their secondary products (traction, milk, reproduction, wool). By adopting a social and archaeological approach a study of the possible functional uses of several areas of the village was carried out and an investigation of the presence of differentiated social groups was accomplished. A biometric comparison between the Bressanone-Stufles assemblage and assemblages from neighbouring regions was also conducted to understand whether livestock size differences through time could be identified. This analysis, together with the discovery of a bone find attributed to a donkey, points toward the likely existence of links with the Etruscan and Mediterranean worlds.

We live in a globalized society, traced by technological and industrial searches, where much is said about education and educational practices. However, some of these practices are still linked to traditionalism, where education is a means of trying to pass on to the student what he should learn, leaving aside his real needs, life perspectives, reflections and critical capacity, which affects the performance of his learning. In opposition to these facts, Ethnomathematics, a trend in Mathematics Education, comes to build an educational process based on the recognition of the mathematical knowledge developed in the daily practice of some coexisting cultures and to relate this knowledge to the teaching practice. The aim of this final work is to develop an anthropological research with an ethnomathematical approach found in the craft of the Naval Carpenters of the Vila do Itapu - Vigia/PA, using their informal mathematics as a mathematical model to teach Geometry by means of a pedagogical intervention.

En opposition ces faits, l'ethnomath matique, un courant de l'enseignement des math matiques, vient construire un processus ducatif bas sur la reconnaissance des connaissances math matiques d velopp es dans la pratique quotidienne de certaines cultures coexistantes et de relier ces connaissances la pratique de l'enseignement. L'objectif de ce travail final est de d velopper une recherche anthropologique avec une approche ethnomath matique trouv e dans l'artisanat des charpentiers de marine de la Vila do Itapu - Vigia/PA, en utilisant leurs math matiques informelles comme mod le math matique pour enseigner la g om trie par le biais d'une intervention p dagogique.

Viviamo in una societ globalizzata, tracciata dalla ricerca tecnologica e industriale, dove si parla molto di educazione e di pratiche educative. Tuttavia, alcune di queste pratiche sono ancora legate al tradizionalismo, dove l'educazione un mezzo per cercare di trasmettere allo studente ci che deve imparare, tralasciando i suoi reali bisogni, le sue prospettive di vita, le sue riflessioni e la sua capacit critica, che influisce sul rendimento del suo apprendimento. In opposizione a questi fatti, l'etnomatematica, una tendenza dell'educazione matematica, si propone di costruire un processo educativo basato sul riconoscimento delle conoscenze matematiche sviluppate nella pratica quotidiana di alcune culture coesistenti e di mettere in relazione queste conoscenze con la pratica didattica. L'obiettivo di questo lavoro finale quello di sviluppare una ricerca antropologica con un approccio etnomatematico trovato nell'artigianato dei carpentieri navali di Vila do Itapu - Vigia/PA, utilizzando la loro matematica informale come modello matematico per insegnare la geometria attraverso un intervento pedagogico. classe

Dentro del presente art culo, se realiz una exhaustiva exploraci n sobre la funci n pedag gica del m dico docente en la formaci n de estudiantes de medicina para la atenci n de emergencias obst tricas. La investigaci n, basada en entrevistas con m dicos docentes especializados en este campo, revel una tesis central que destaca la importancia crucial del m dico docente como gu a, l der y modelo tico en el proceso formativo. En respuesta a desaf os comunes, como la variabilidad en la experiencia cl nica y la gesti n del tiempo, se identificaron enfoques adaptativos y flexibles como estrategias efectivas. La adaptaci n emergi como un elemento fundamental para personalizar la ense anza, incorporando simulaciones realistas, aprendizaje basado en problemas y tecnolog as educativas. Mientras que la promoci n de la participaci n activa y el aprendizaje pr ctico, mediante escenarios interactivos y discusiones basadas en casos reales, se estableci como esencial en el proceso educativo. La inclusi n de la tica y la sensibilidad cultural en la ense anza fue reconocida como un factor clave para formar profesionales m dicos culturalmente competentes.
