Retaliation of the Cursed: A Historical Investigation of The Origins of Worship, World Religion, Mythology, Paganism, Astrology and Atheism, and Their Contributions Leading to Modern Hinduism is a sweeping look at the ancient cross-cultural flows that worked to shape the long legacies of the major religions, right up to our contemporary moment. Primarily grounded in examining the Sumerian, Akkadian, Greek, Egyptian, Pagan, and biblical origins of various religious figures, practices, and beliefs, but drawing on a wide array of mythologies that stretch beyond this, this book is stunning in its scope and impressive in the rich, fascinating detail in which it presents its findings.Ultimately, author Stephen Martin makes a compelling case for the shared origins of the world's great religions, arguing that by reincorporating many previously excommunicated spiritualities and atheisms, Hinduism manifested itself as the complex, multi-faceted cosmology it is today. As well-suited to an amateur audience as it would to a professional theologian, this book is sure to make an excellent read for anyone interested in studies of comparative religion or ancient civilizations-or those simply interested in better understanding the roots of the religious beliefs and spiritual practices of themselves and those around them.

This book is a process where thoughts of courage, power, inspiration, harmony; are substituted for thoughts of failure, despair, lack, limitation, discord and we see life in a new light. Life has a new meaning for us; we are reconstructed and filled with joy, confidence, hope, and energy. We see opportunities for success where we were blind. We recognize possibilities which before had no meaning and they in turn help us onward and upward and this in turn changes our environment. So by these simple exercises of thought, we change not only ourselves but our environment, circumstances, and conditions.Charles F. Haanel published his book in 1912, and it continues to be beneficial today. This update keeps the essence of Charles Hannel's thoughts by using language which may help you better understand, in this new millennium. This book is a book which discusses the Law of Attraction and its true nature - which is Love. The author was moved by The Master Key System, which helped him gain awareness and is grateful for Charles's wonderful thoughts. He experienced an unfolding of his awareness which he wrote about in his first book, My Journey of Self - Awareness.

After discovering a copy the German novel, Deutsche suchen den Garten der Welt--Das Schicksal deutscher Auswanderer in Texas vor 100 Jahren nach Berichten erz hlt von Fritz Scheffel, the almost lost and fascinating story of the German Texas pioneers was republished originally in German in order to make it available to German readers once again. The book was originally published in 1937 and is written in a style and with elements of the German nationalistic culture of the time. It seems that the novel had almost been forgotten and hardly appears in any information about Scheffel. In the meantime, there are unfortunately hardly any German speaking Texans left and the descendants of those pioneers have no access to this literary and historical work which, whilst it is a good story, it is very close to the real history of Texas of the 1840's and has the potential to bring history alive to them. The book has been recomposed into English rather than leave it as a pure translation. However, the original flavor and the storyline of the novel have been retained, making it more accessible to the average American today.

The Political Thought of William Ockham

The Political Thought of William Ockham

Arthur Stephen McGrade

The English Franciscan, William of Ockham (c. 1285–1349), was one of the most important thinkers of the later middle ages. Summoned to Avignon in 1324 to answer charges of heresy, Ockham became convinced that Pope John XXII was himself a heretic in denying the complete poverty of Christ and the apostles and a tyrant in claiming supremacy over the Roman empire. Ockham’s political writings were a result of these personal convictions, but also include systematic discourses on the basis and functions of spiritual and secular power as well as exhaustive discussions of Franciscan poverty and the general problem of papal heresy. Ockham emerges in this study as a man deeply committed to natural and Christian human rights, who found these fundamental values so seriously menaced in his time that their survival could be assured only by radical, even revolutionary, personal action and by a basic reworking of traditional political thought.

William Arthur Human was 22 years old and serving as a British soldier in India when war broke out in 1914.This is his story, in his own words, covering his first eight months on the Western Front and featuring the Battle of Neuve Chapelle. An extraordinarily vivid account that is heartfelt, captivating, and challenging in equal measure."Nowadays - when I think of it - it gives me a shiver down my back. Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr., and the Ideological History of American Liberalism
The author of this book examines the origin, elements, and evolving significance of the "tides" in his discourse of Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr., is a historian and political advocate whose ideas and activities have significantly influenced the shape and direction of American liberalism during the past fifty years. A central feature of Schlesinger's ideological perspective is his belief that American history has been marked by alternating periods of conservative and liberal dominance, which he has termed the "tides of national politics." Throughout his career, Schlesinger has used the "tides of national politics" to defend the legitimacy and superiority of active liberal government and leadership. The author of this book examines the origin, elements, and evolving significance of the "tides" in his discourse of Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. The study investigates how the "tides" concept has functioned in both Schlesinger's historical scholarship and his partisan political discourse. Depoe also explores the ways in which the "tides" concept has shaped and channeled Schlesinger's political thought over time, leading him toward certain definitions of situations and away from others. Finally, Depoe offers Schlesinger's life and work as a case study of the highs and lows of postwar American liberalism. By tracing Schlesinger's responses to Eisenhower-era conservatism, Kennedy's New Frontier, and the problems of Vietnam and violence during the 1960s, and the gradual delegitimation of liberalism from the 1970s to the present, this book offers a road map that can guide the reader toward a better understanding of the past, present, and future of liberalism in America.
Arthur Miller - Death of a Salesman/The Crucible
Arthur Miller was one of the most important American playwrights and political and cultural figures of the 20th century. Both Death of a Salesman and The Crucible stand out as his major works: the former is always in performance somewhere in the world and the latter is Miller's most produced play. As major modern American dramas, they are the subject of a huge amount of criticism which can be daunting for students approaching the plays for the first time. This Reader's Guide introduces the major critical debates surrounding the plays and discusses their unique production histories, initial theatre reviews and later adaptations. The main trends of critical inquiry and scholars who have purported them are examined, as are the views of Miller himself, a prolific self-critic.

Take a tour of New York City as inspiration, place and context in the work of America's greatest playwright of the 20th century, brought to life with images from Miller's time and today.Readers of the work of Arthur Miller will be familiar with the presence of NYC in much of his work. In Arthur Miller's New York Stephen Marino offers a rich, panoramic study of NYC across all of Miller's oeuvre, exploring how Miller transformed the defining experiences of his youth and early adulthood – formed on the streets and in the neighborhoods of the New York boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn – into art.A crucial component of his creative DNA, NYC figures prominently in Miller's dramatic work: Death of a Salesman, A Memory of Two Mondays, A View From the Bridge, After the Fall, The Price, The American Clock, The Ride Down Mt. Morgan, Broken Glass, and Mr. Peter’s Connections all have settings in which the characters’ interactions with the cityscape significantly determine the events of the plays.Miller was also a prodigious fiction writer, and New York features in his two longer works of fiction: his only novel, Focus, is set in the borough of Queens and boldly confronts the issue of American anti-Semitism, and the novella, Homely Girl, A Life, creates a sweeping landscape of time and emotion in Manhattan. Many of Miller’s short stories depict New York settings that are catalysts for the main characters’ conflicts. An evocative set of images from Miller's times and from the present period bring the character of New York City into sharp relief and and trace its evolution over a century of change.
