In a period of around three weeks in March and April 1966, large numbers of people in Michigan and Ohio reported encounters with UFOs in several separate incidents. Some of these witnesses were Law Enforcement personnel and their accounts are compelling, even for someone who, like the author, began by being doubtful about the whole subject of UFOs. Why then did the US Air Force not only fail to investigate these sightings adequately, but also attempted to discredit the reputations of witnesses to the extent that some were forced to quit their jobs?The author began the research for this book as a UFO skeptic who assumed that the idea of people having their lives changed by UFO encounters and of Government agencies attempting to suppress reports of such sightings belonged wholly to the fictional world of the X-Files. However, at least one witness to the 1966 sightings lost his career, his marriage, his children and almost his sanity as a direct result. Research using declassified documents confirms that Government agencies did deliberately attempt to add pressure to UFO witnesses by inducing mockery and ridicule of what they claimed to have seen. Worse still, it has become clear that many of the more outrageous fallacies about UFOs originate not from people wearing tin-foil hats but from Intelligence Agencies of the US Government.This book is an attempt to dispassionately examine one particular group of UFO sightings and, through this, the wider phenomenon of UFO encounters and the attitude of the US Government. In the late 1960s, dance halls were still popular in Glasgow. At the Barrowland Ballroom in the Bridgeton area of the city, queues were long on Friday and Saturday nights and anything up to two thousand people would spend the evening dancing to music provided by the resident band.Then, in February 1968, a woman who had spent the evening at the Barrowland Ballroom was found murdered. It seemed that she had met her killer while dancing but police were unable to find any clue as to his identity. In August 1969, another woman went dancing at the same ballroom and was seen leaving with a tall, slim, handsome young man. Her body was discovered the following day. The circumstances of the two murders were very similar and police began looking for a single killer. They even commissioned a local artist to produce a painting of the murderer based on witness descriptions.In October 1969, it happened again. Another woman was murdered after meeting her killer at the Barrowland Ballroom. But this time, the killer was seen by a number of witnesses and one even shared a taxi with him and his victim. Surely, it was only a matter of time before this murderer, who newspapers had started calling Bible John, was caught?Fifty years later, we still don't know the identity of this serial killer. There have been many theories and a number of potential suspects. Police cold-case reviews have used new technologies in the search for Bible John and several promising new leads have been identified. None have led to an arrest.How can this be? How can a murderer select and spend time with his victims in a crowded public place where he was seen by large numbers of people and yet escape detection? The artist's depiction of the killer was also said to be a very good likeness, so we even know what he looked like. This book is a fresh look at this fascinating case and an attempt to understand how Bible John managed to escape detection and has continued to elude investigators for fifty years.

A fun book about bush life in AustraliaThis book, The Adventures of a Jackeroo, is set in the early 1950's when bush life in Australia was a bit rougher than it is today. It will carry you along with Bruce from Bondi, a city boy who decides to become a Jackeroo, a trainee property manager, specialising in sheep and a few million flies. Based in the far west of New South Wales near a town called Enngonia Bruce lives on Booleroo Sheep Station and gets into quite a few scraps and also learns a few things the hard way. You will read about...Bruce trying to catch a sheep called Rancid the Ram which is a bit too much for him to handle. He also clambers aboard a stock horse called Bob the Brumby and learns that it is easy to get him to go but very hard to steer him let alone get him to stop. Bruce also tries himself out as a tennis player at a Country Tennis match with disastrous results and as a cricketer (in a Country Cricket match) with a decided lack of success. Mind you not all of Bruce's escapades end in disaster and the stories are funny and the illustrations are a great addition to the tale of Adventures of a Jackeroo. An ideal book for a laugh and all readers who want to know about bush life as well as visitors to Australia.

HEARTLAND The action starts with an almost Twilight Zone set up: a young, Eastern man has quit his job, leaving his wife and young children without warning. He drives to the Midwest and randomly picks the home of a family to see if they will allow him to undertake a personal experiment. He wants find out who he nice people are and who the nasty people are so that he can transform the nasty ones into nice people. A family allows him to live with them and meet their friends and the boss of one. The daughter of the family is troubled and the young man talks her into a more humble and loving outlook. When he encounters the boss and tries to transform him the boss tells him to leave town or he will fire the friend that introduced them. The experience leaves the young man sobered and he realizes he has a struggle of his own that needs sorting out. He was adopted and not treated well as a child so he has to run away from intimacy. He also realizes his childhood trauma has caused a split in his sexuality. Most importantly, he concludes he needs to return home and try to work out his needs with his wife's expectations. The play can be viewed as the young man's dream wherein he awakens to the unexplored depths of his personality that he has unintentionally repressed. At the end, how is he going to cope with his awakening? HEART Following his unannounced trip to the Midwest in HEARTLAND, Bryan Crawford's wife accepts him back into their family with the understanding that they will undertake their own experiment to find out if she can live with his need for male sexual companionship. He finds a man recently emigrated from India and they agree to a friend-with benefits relationship. Julie Crawford agrees and meets Pran. Her mother supplies moral support to Julie and takes some child care duties. Bryan and Pran, however, start having a need for more non-sexual intimacy, which begins to complicate Bryan and Julie's marriage. Bryan decides he needs to protect his marriage and breaks off his relationship with Pran. Julie, however, continues a friendship with Pran, which Bryan indicated would be OK with him if he didn't have to be involved. Subsequently, Pran learns that he has a serious medical condition and needs help to maintain his life and job. Bryan and Julie decide to offer to let either Pran or her mother move into their home, which will relieve enough financial burden to help Pran. Pran and her mother, Bev, decide to decline their offer and have Pran move into Bev's house, which will help Pran. At the end Bryan and Julie have offered to help these others regardless of their own burdens and Bryan is left to see if he can sustain himself without any homosexual contacts or not.
