Bogen gennemgår i kortfattet form og med mange tegninger og fotos relevante håndgreb og procedurer samt understøtter klinisk beslutningstagning. Bogens indhold baserer sig i videst mulig udstrækning på eksisterende evidens for god klinisk praksis i Skandinavien. Denne 2. udgave er en gennemgribende revision af tekst og illustrationer og er suppleret med nye selvstændige kapitler om Hjemmefødsel, Dystoci, CTGovervågning og Præterm fødsel. Forståelsen for, hvornår man skal og ikke skal intervenere i fødselsforløbet, er altafgørende på en fødestue. Enkelte kapitler inddrager forfattere fra andre specialer som fx anæstesiologi og klinisk biokemi. Målgruppen er først og fremmest yngre læger under speciallægeuddannelse i gynækologi og obstetrik, speciallæger med vagt på fødegang, jordemødre og jordemoderstuderende samt sygeplejersker ansat på svangre- og barselsafsnit. Steven Dietz is one of America’s most widely produced and published contemporary playwrights.
