Susanna of Bethsaida: ((A Short Novelette) (With a First Person Narration in Monologue))

The novelette, 'Susanna of Bethsaida' is a wondrous short novelette, of a Saint and a woman, a contemporary with Mary from Magdala both whom walked with Christ, being one of a few female companions to the apostles, whom both discovered their destiny. Drawing on the Gospels of the New Testament, sources from the Vatican library, and other resources, we see Jesus Christ and his entourage, as they follow him heart, mind and soul, on his journey. In the form of a monologue, Susanna tells the reader her story, her awareness to Christianity's early years and its history changing events, surrounded by a pagan world and martyrs such as John the Baptist, as this new faith emerges. Susanna, seldom written about, and surely never in a novel or novelette, to my knowledge, here for the first time one may actually visualize the holy women that followed our Lord in the First Century A.D. For the most part, Susanna is the hidden jewel; brought out to sparkle with Mary called Magdalene, Salome, and Joanna. Dr. Siluk and his wife Rosa visited Israel in 2010 A.D., included many of the places-to include Caesarea-where Jesus Christ journeyed followed by his apostles and Susanna and the other holy women. Choosing the Correct Radiologic Test

Choosing the Correct Radiologic Test

Owing to financial constraints, greater pressure is being put on physicians to order only appropriate radiologic exams. The American College of Radiology (ACR) Appropriateness Criteria have emerged as a widely accepted standard by which the appropriate use of radiologic exams is judged. This book enables physicians and trainees to learn the ACR recommendations in a clinically relevant and intellectually stimulating way. More than 400 clinical scenarios are organized into ten modules based on organ systems. Each scenario is addressed by means of an interactive quiz in which the reader is invited to select the best option from various imaging modalities. Each choice is given a numerical rating of appropriateness, with accompanying comments when necessary. Correlative images of pathologies are included to enhance the reader’s appreciation of the diagnostic power of the modality in question. This book is ideal as a tool both for self-study and for quantitative evaluation of students’ knowledge.

Synchronization processes bring about dynamical order and lead to spontaneous development of structural organization in complex systems of various origins, from chemical oscillators and biological cells to human societies and the brain. This book provides a review and a detailed theoretical analysis of synchronization phenomena in complex systems with different architectures, composed of elements with periodic or chaotic individual dynamics. Special attention is paid to statistical concepts, such as nonequilibrium phase transitions, order parameters and dynamical glasses.

Focusing on the dilution of state sovereignty, this book examines how the crossing of state boundaries by religious movements leads to the formation of transnational civil society. Challenging the assertion that future conflict will be of the “clash of civilization” variety, it looks to the micro-origins of conflicts, which are as likely to arise between states sharing a religion as between those divided by it and more likely to arise within rather than across state boundaries. Thus, the chapters reveal the dual potential of religious movements as sources of peace and security as well as of violent conflict. Featuring an East-West, North-South approach, the volume avoids the conventional and often ethnocentric segregation of the experience of other regions from the European and American. Contributors draw examples from a variety of civilizations and world religions. They contrast self-generated movements from “below” (such as Protestant sectarianism in Latin America or Sufi Islam in Africa) with centralized forms of organization and patterns of diffusion from above (such as state-certified religion in China). Together the chapters illustrate how religion as bearer of the politics of meaning has filled the lacuna left by the decline of ideology, creating a novel transnational space for world politics.

"In Drugstore Blue, Susana H. Case's speaker is a femme fatale in serious eyeshadow: 'You need me / like a tongue needs a second / mouth.' That's the sound of her craft, one of her dart-like declarations, hitting its mark. Rarely has makeup, and the color blue, in particular, come alive on the page like this: 'Blue all the way to the brow, an eyelid / tin-glazed, / underglazed, / sancai lead glazed, / oxide blue glazed, / a glaze of blue not born of the blues, but the antidote, / spring blue, felice blue, / green dragon constellation blue, / occult knowledge blue, / the eye of God.' Need I say more? Her poetry reads like a graphic novel, a romp, a road-trip in a borrowed car, speeding with a wild child at the wheel. Vivid, direct, episodic, and utterly believable, Case's tropes make excellent landings. From Morandi to Velvet Elvis, from Marrakech to Cartagena, eros is never far off, and her text glitters on the page in a poetry of great precision." -Elaine Sexton, author of Causeway and Prospect/Refuge"Susana H. Case's Drugstore Blue offers the edgy yet compassionate and sometimes racy odyssey of a woman coming of age. The poems, wonderfully complex both in their craft as well as their emotional depth, often widen into larger mythological and historical realms. Case's fine ear and wit are deeply satisfying." -Sally Bliumis-Dunn, author of Second Skin and Echolocation "Susana H. Case dedicates Drugstore Blue to her maternal grandmother who, 'In her youth, having never seen a ship... considered crossing an ocean and thought, Yes, I can do that.' Case clearly inherited her grandmother's courage and curiosity. The speaker in these poems explores terrain both internal and external-from callow youth to vibrant maturity, from Bushwick to Zimbabwe. More seeker than tourist, she keeps her eyes wide open and invites her reader along for the adventure, forcing us to see what goes on in the world we inhabit, even if it does 'cause inconveniences, / like thinking.'" -Grace Bauer, author of The Women at the Well and MEAN/TIME
