Strategies for gathering and harnessing knowledge have existed in law firms for decades. However, knowledge management suddenly found itself in the spotlight as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Enforced remote working reduced opportunities for knowledge sharing between colleagues and this gap was filled with knowledge databases and experienced knowledge lawyers. Now that hybrid and virtual workforces are here to stay, these new working practices have combined with technological developments, enhanced demand, and the transformation of how to access knowledge to drive the advancement of knowledge management into a new era. Knowledge Management in Law Firms: Challenges and Opportunities Post-Pandemic is the essential guide to the evolution of law firm knowledge management. It covers how to revisit your strategy in light of recent and future changes, the expansion of knowledge management to encompass legal tech and innovation, the rise of the importance of data, strategies for overcoming the challenges hybrid and virtual working pose to knowledge management, managing knowledge teams, and much more. Chapters are written by an international group of KM experts from a range of organisations and leading law firms, including DLA Piper, Linklaters, and Dentons. Pandemic experiences and lessons learnt are shared as well as ways to approach the future. Knowledge is at the heart of the legal profession, and this book provides guidance on how to prepare for and thrive in the knowledge management practices of the future, overcoming the obstacles and embracing the opportunities that have arisen from or been accelerated by the pandemic. Through demonstrating how effective knowledge management can help firms exceed client expectations, differentiate themselves in the competitive market, and, ultimately, improve their bottom line, this title will be of interest to knowledge management professionals including professional support lawyers, law firm leaders, partners and fee earners, and, outside of law firms, in-house lawyers and consultants.

NATIONAL BESTSELLER - READ WITH JENNA BOOK CLUB PICK AS FEATURED ON TODAY - A spellbinding debut novel tracing three generations of a Southern Black family and one daughter's discovery that she has the power to change her family's legacy. "A rhapsodic hymn to Black women."--The New York Times Book Review "I fell in love with this family, from Joan's fierce heart to her grandmother Hazel's determined resilience. Tara Stringfellow will be an author to watch for years to come."--Jacqueline Woodson, New York Times bestselling author of Red at the BoneLONGLISTED FOR THE ASPEN WORDS LITERARY PRIZE - ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: The Boston Globe, NPR, BuzzFeed, Glamour, PopSugar Summer 1995: Ten-year-old Joan, her mother, and her younger sister flee her father's explosive temper and seek refuge at her mother's ancestral home in Memphis. This is not the first time violence has altered the course of the family's trajectory. Half a century earlier, Joan's grandfather built this majestic house in the historic Black neighborhood of Douglass--only to be lynched days after becoming the first Black detective in the city. Joan tries to settle into her new life, but family secrets cast a longer shadow than any of them expected. As she grows up, Joan finds relief in her artwork, painting portraits of the community in Memphis. One of her subjects is their enigmatic neighbor Miss Dawn, who claims to know something about curses, and whose stories about the past help Joan see how her passion, imagination, and relentless hope are, in fact, the continuation of a long matrilineal tradition. Joan begins to understand that her mother, her mother's mother, and the mothers before them persevered, made impossible choices, and put their dreams on hold so that her life would not have to be defined by loss and anger--that the sole instrument she needs for healing is her paintbrush. Unfolding over seventy years through a chorus of unforgettable voices that move back and forth in time, Memphis paints an indelible portrait of inheritance, celebrating the full complexity of what we pass down, in a family and as a country: brutality and justice, faith and forgiveness, sacrifice and love.

"Gorgeous poetry" (People) that celebrates Black Southern womanhood and the many ways magic lives in the bonds between mothers, daughters, and sisters, from the bestselling author of Memphis. "These are lush poems full of radical love and strength."--Warsan Shire, author of Bless the Daughter Raised by a Voice in Her Head WINNER OF THE BCALA LITERARY AWARD FOR POETRY "God can stay asleep / these women in my life are magic enuff" An electrifying collection of poems that tells a universal tale of survival and revolution through the lens of Black femininity. Tara M. Stringfellow embraces complexity, grappling with the sometimes painful, sometimes wonderful way two conflicting things can be true at the same time. How it's possible to have a strong voice but also feel silenced. To be loyal to things and people that betray us. To burn as hot with rage as we do with love. Each poem asks how we can heal and sustain relationships with people, systems, and ourselves. How to reach for the kind of real love that allows for the truth of anger, disappointment, and grief. Unapologetic, unafraid, and glorious in its nuance, this collection argues that when it comes to living in our full humanity, we have--and we are--magic enough.

"How to Get Out of the Unfulfilling Relationship": For Single Women from a Biblical Perspective
Have you ever been dissatisfied with a romantic relationship? Many women find themselves in relationships that are unfulfilling. We think that this is just the price we have to pay to be in a relationship. You try to make it work, but your effort alone is not all that's required. You may begin to question yourself. Am I lovable? What is it about me that makes me unable to have a good relationship? Self-esteem plummets and you may begin to believe that this unfulfilling relationship is all that you deserve. Women already wear so many hats and have so many responsibilities. We are never without media or society pushing us to do more with less time. That romantic relationship that is not working could have been the soft place to land, that you believe you need. But there is no soft place to land, your guy is distant. He doesn't call that much or spend much time with you. You also notice that he doesn't talk much about what is going on with him. Do you even have a relationship? You wonder, but every time you ask about the relationship he gets upset and says "Don't start that again". You want him to stay so you learn to be quiet and just accept what time he gives to you. Has your relationship been reduced to sex only? In the beginning, there were dates and laughs and joys, but lately you feel ignored and definitely unloved. You want it to work so you try different things to keep him interested. But it only appears to work for a period of time, then the relationship goes back to being lonely. Every now and then he spends more time with you than usual and you are on top of the world, its working you think. Then the magic stops and it goes back to being distant and lonely. You want to marry this guy one day. Maybe if you get married there will be more together time. You know deep down that this idea makes no sense. When you mention the issue with your friends, they say "He's a good man and he's cute, he has a job, if you don't want him someone else will". You spend your time trying to make the relationship sound better than it really is. You see the signs that he is probably unfaithful. Do you ask about that again? The last time you did you didn't see him or talk to him for two weeks. You are hooked so you don't want to experience that again. So what do you do? Do you focus on changing him? You say "if he would just spend more time with me, he would see how wonderful I am, I am so committed to him". Your actions lean toward the ridiculous. You wonder what type of mental health services you need. This guide takes into consideration all of these emotions of inadequacy, low self esteem, loneliness that women can experience just trying to make a relationship work in their favor. There is everlasting hope if you can just adjust your focus. You will discover the true definition of love, from where it comes and how to experience it. Through this discovery, letting go of the unfulfilling relationship will be much easier and very possible.

This book focuses on safer sex discussion and practice in close, personal relationships, emphasizing research on individuals in personal relationship types that are experiencing a rise in HIV infection and AIDS. Moving beyond studies of gay adult males and IV drug-users, this work paints a clear picture of the very real risk that exists for these less-studied, more general populations, so individuals may better personalize the risk and engage in more preventative measures. Authors Tara M. Emmers-Sommer and Mike Allen examine issues surrounding safer sex, utilizing research that focuses on how individuals struggle with personalizing the HIV and AIDS risk and how they cope with safer sex issues.Safer Sex in Personal Relationships takes readers on a journey through a variety of close relationship types. It begins by highlighting awareness to the global enormity of HIV and AIDS and providing a link between the global and personal, and the need to make HIV and AIDS awareness part of everyday talk and personal relationship structure. It then focuses on:*safer sex in close relationships, both heterosexual and homosexual;*marital relationships and the importance of safe sex discussion and awareness in marriages;*HIV and AIDS from a multicultural perspective;*HIV and AIDS in aged populations; and*increasing awareness, understanding, and compassion of those living with HIV and AIDS.This book will appeal to scholars and students concerned with HIV and AIDS in personal relationships. It will be an invaluable text for courses on interpersonal communication and relationships; family, marital, human sexuality, sex and gender, gay and lesbian relationships, and sexual education; and relational conflict across communication, psychology, and sociology disciplines.

Respectability and Reform

In the late nineteenth century, an era in which women were expanding the influence outside the home, Irish American women carved out unique opportunities to serve the needs of their communities. For many women, this began with a commitment to Irish nationalism. In Respectability and Reform, McCarthy explores the contributions of a small group of Irish American women in the Gilded Age and Progressive Era who emerged as leaders, organizers, and activists.Profiles of these women suggest not only that Irish American women had a political tradition of their own but also that the diversity of the Irish American community fostered a range of priorities and approaches to activism.McCarthy focuses on three movements—the Irish nationalist movement, the labor movement, and the suffrage movement—to trace the development of women’s political roles. Highlighting familiar activists such as Fanny and Anna Parnell, as well as many lesser-known suffragists, McCarthy sheds light on the range of economic and social backgrounds found among the activists. She also shows that Irish American women’s commitment to social justice persisted from the Land War through the World War I era. In unearthing the rich and varied stories of these Irish American women, Respectablity and Reform deepens our understanding of their intersection with and contribution to the larger context of American women’s activism.
