In Double Agency, Tina Chen proposes impersonation as a paradigm for teasing out the performative dimensions of Asian American literature and culture. Asian American acts of impersonation, she argues, foreground the limits of subjectivity even as they insist on the undeniable importance of subjecthood. By decoupling imposture from impersonation, Chen shows how Asian American performances have often been misinterpreted, read as acts of betrayal rather than multiple allegiance. A central paradox informing the book—impersonation as a performance of divided allegiance that simultaneously pays homage to and challenges authenticity and authority—thus becomes a site for reconsidering the implications of Asian Americans as double agents. In exploring the possibilities that impersonation affords for refusing the binary logics of loyalty/disloyalty, real/fake, and Asian/American, Double Agency attends to the possibilities of reading such acts as "im-personations"—dynamic performances, and a performance dynamics—through which Asian Americans constitute themselves as speaking and acting subjects.

This special issue of positions deals at once with the concrete and abstract meaning of the word fabrication itself. In the concrete, fabrication refers to actual garments created and worn in a society. In the abstract, it alludes to the social characterizations of class, ethnicity, nationality, and gender attributed to fashion. This special issue explores the self-conscious efforts in cultural China and Japan to exert social position, using body and cloth as the crucial points in the construction of identity, modernity, and imagination.By focusing on clothing and body practices in East Asia, this collection delves into the dynamic interplay between global trade, images, products, and standards as mediated through and on individual bodies. It investigates what fashion means in the Asian context, past and present, and enters into the debate on fashion as a modern phenomenon predicated upon capitalism and consumerism. One contributor critically assesses ideas about the proper proportions and display of breasts-including implants and other nonsurgical practices for enhancement-in Japan and how such norms may be affected and altered by the spread of a global Euro-American beauty ideology. Another essay debates the influence of globalization and cultural localization on the emergence and popularity of exposed short stockings in China. Fabrications also features a translation of Eileen Chang’s classic article "Chronicle of Changing Clothes," which has defined thinking on Chinese fashion since the 1920s.Contributors. The role of arts and cultural institutions is changing. Once viewed as stewards of objects, institutions are increasingly upheld as stewards of people—spaces where the diversity of human experience is asserted, explored, and celebrated. As such, they function as public resources and should be equally accessible to all members of diverse communities.Individuals with autism spectrum disorder account for a significant portion of the community. Advocates are working to shift attitudes and nomenclature, with terms such as neurodiversity and sensory-friendly becoming more commonplace. With this, cultural institutions are putting effort into creating tailored programs and resources to welcome neurodiverse visitors who have historically been excluded from these spaces. Despite their desire to connect, many cultural workers fear they lack the expertise or resources needed to effectively create inclusive spaces and experiences. This book's content is presented by museum educators, arts administrators, occupational therapists, and school psychologists—contributors with different expertise and perspectives on the stakes of cultural arts experiences for neurodiverse visitors. We offer advice based on what has worked for us and share the sometimes-difficult lessons learned along the way. However, this advice comes with the caution there is no one-size-fits-all solution. To be truly successful, arts and cultural institutions must respond to their unique community and work within the resources and limitations of their institution. Our practical goals for the reader are threefold:To understand the value of programming for neurodiverse visitors and effectively communicate this to others,To build a toolkit of strategies and resources for neurodiverse visitors to have successful visits to cultural institutions, no matter the staff size, budget, or current stages of accessibility,To develop evaluation strategies to gauge the impact of offerings for neurodiverse visitors with results that help the reader improve, grow, and refine for the future.

THE INSTANT SUNDAY TIMES AND IRISH TIMES NUMBER ONE BESTSELLER. THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER. _ Hope taught me the meaning of life, Tina taught me the meaning of love. It's not everyday you meet a golden retriever in Thailand. When Niall came across a dog shackled to a short chain and in a poor state of health something reminded him of his personal battle with addiction. He knew he had to rescue her immediately – golden retrievers are rare in Thailand – but there was just something about this dog in particular that told him she was destined for more. He named her Tina, and what she did next is an incredible tale of survival, hope and love. Despite her terrible treatment at the hands of humans, she refused to distrust them or feel sorry for herself, and only opened her heart wider – always with a grin (yes dogs can smile) and a reassuring wag of her shaggy yellow tail. From the minute Tina was free of her chains, she got on with what needed to be done, inspiring a dog hospital to be built and named after her and helping dogs from all over the world – whether they're street dogs from Thailand or rescue pups in Montana. The movement behind Tina has not stopped. This is her story.

Tina lived in a time when there was no name or diagnosis for mental illnesses nor an understanding of the various types of mental ailments and treatment for them. As the years passed, the medical science of mind matters, psychiatry, and help for dysfunctional personalities came into its own. Today, in our modern world, there is help and medical professionals trained to work in the field of the human mind. So many trigger points and causes lead to these behavior patterns-from trauma to the simple struggle of living day by day with all that this brings to us. Some of us are more resilient, more able to deal with stress and strain. Many are not for a variety of reasons and causes. Please consider her story, and if you identify with her or you see that your loved one or a family member does, please be brave and reach out for help. Make the choice deliberately and on purpose to get the help you need. Don't waste time waiting for later and, while you do, destroy those around you and your own chance to be happy and to heal.
