"The coolest--and easiest--book for new parents" (Parents magazine) Pregnancy? Newborn baby? Partway through parenthood with a toddler or preschooler? No matter your stage, you could use more calm, more confidence. You could read dozens of parenting books on pregnancy, baby sleep, picky eaters, child psychology, child development, potty training, and discipline. Or you could read Zero to Five: 70 Essential Parenting Tips Based on Science. Journalist Tracy Cutchlow cuts to the chase, summarizing the best parenting research in bite-sized chunks. She knows from her own experience with motherhood: new parents are too busy and sleep-deprived. One tip per page + beautiful photographs = cool + easy. Research With the premise that science isn't perfect, but it's the best guide we've got, Zero to Five draws on scientific research and studies from experts such as Dimitri Christakis (screen time), Diana Baumrind (parenting styles), Adele Diamond (neuroscience and executive function), Carol Dweck (growth mindset), Alison Gopnik (child psychology), John Gottman (marriage and conflict resolution), Megan McClelland (executive function), Patricia Kuhl (language acquisition and brain development), Ellyn Satter (feeding children), Dan Siegel (emotions), Paul Torrance (creative thinking), Grover Whitehurst (literacy and reading comprehension), and more. Then Cutchlow makes it all readable, for that 2-minute break you've got during the day. This parenting book is for you ...if you like to research all the options so you can find the best ...if you are feeling scared, anxious, or unsure of yourself as a parent (who isn't?) ...if you like the idea of using science as a filter for the crazy amount of parenting advice out there ...if you want practical, how-to ideas for applying the research -- not just what to do, but ideas for how to do it or how to say it ...if you want to do things differently than your parents did, even though you love them . ..if you want word-for-word examples for dealing with specific discipline scenarios (hitting, biting, not sharing, talking back, refusing requests, not listening, and more) ...if you are wondering how to handle television and screen time ...if you are interested in positive discipline or positive parenting ...if you are a dad (or you are with a partner) who probably wouldn't read parenting books ...if you are a grandparent wanting to be up with the latest knowledge about raising kids ...if you are studying for your CDA, or working in early childhood education, and want a reference ...if you work with families and want to recommend or provide evidence-based resources to them ...if you want to feel like you're enjoying parenting, not just surviving it Who is using Zero to Five besides, of course, parents, we've heard from: Pediatricians. Many keep their copy in the exam room. Some private-practice pediatricians give a copy of Zero to Five to all new parents. Parent educators. "The best I've seen in a long time." "My go-to source." Parenting support groups. Seattle's largest network, PEPS.org, uses Zero to Five as part of the weekly curriculum, in a "brain development break." Child-care providers. Agencies that train child-care providers. One agency created a training based on Zero to Five. Home visitors. Family therapists and psychologists. "Your book is a big part of my practice." "I recommend it all the time." Childbirth-class teachers. Early-learning advocates. Graduate students in child development. Zero to Five is your quick and easy guide to the best practices in parenting.

A one-person play about the life and times of Spencer Tracy. Acting edition]"No pussyfooting around, no beating around George Bush, TRACY is great." -- Las Virgines News Enterprise"Michael B. Druxman's piece is by no means the nasty expose that has come to be the fashion in so many recent Hollywood biographies. He shows Tracy reacting with human frailties...but it's mostly an admiring look at the man." -- Los Angeles Daily NewsHe's been called "the best film actor Hollywood has ever known". His marvelous performances in classic movies like CAPTAINS COURAGEOUS, ADAM'S RIB, BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK and INHERIT THE WIND endowed him with a tough, solid humorous image -- one that was totally at odds with his own personality. The play opens in 1967 when Tracy was in poor health and struggling to complete what would be his final film, GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER. Alone in his rented guest cottage, he reflects with great guilt on his days as a rough street kid in Milwaukee; his troubled marriage; his drinking problem; the birth of his deaf son; and his romances with Loretta Young and Katharine Hepburn.TRACY is a vivid, often witty, portrait.

The most popular teenager in Britain comes to the stage! "Tracy Beaker Gets Real" has been adapted by Mary Morris with music by Grant Olding from one of the most successful children's books ever, Jacqueline Wilson's "The Story of Tracy Beaker." We join Tracy, aged 15, as she returns to the 'Dumping Ground' and looks back on the last four years of her life, from being fostered - and dumped - and fostered again, to finding a happy, if not altogether harmonious home with writer Cam. When Tracy's mum unexpectedly reappears in her life, Tracy hopes that her days of being passed around like a parcel are over, but she soon comes to realize that the people she has always tried to push away are the ones she really needs the most. Touching and very funny, this play brings Tracy Beaker's trademark talent for troublemaking, fun and friendship to any production.

Cyclone Tracy demolished Darwin, capital of the Northern Territory when it struck during the night of Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning, 1974. Over almost ten hours the small, intense, but slow-moving weather system left a swathe of destruction across the entire town. Few buildings escaped.Sixty-six people died, many of them on vessels which put to sea, while many hundreds were injured. The destruction of essential services made a reduction in the population of about 40,000 imperative and what followed was the greatest peacetime evacuation of an Australian community with nearly 10,000 leaving by road and more than 20,000 evacuated by air.But as some of these stories show, many stayed or returned quickly to help rebuild the city they loved. Every survivor has a story and just over 50 of them have responded to the invitation to tell theirs, some for the first time, in their own words. We admire them for their resilience and thank them for their contribution to this remarkable collection.

This is a biography of Detroit philanthropist Tracy McGregor and his wife, Katherine Whitney McGregor, that details their support of charities and social movements in the first decades of the twentieth century. In the turbulent era from 1890 to the late 1930s, Detroit emerged as a leading industrial and urban center and endured the crushing social and economic challenges of the Great Depression. It was during these years that Tracy W. McGregor, with the assistance of his wife, Katherine Whitney McGregor, established himself as a philanthropist and community leader. Though public buildings and a charitable foundation bear their names, relatively little is known about the private-minded McGregors, who avoided newspaper interviews or public exposure whenever possible. In "Tracy W. McGregor", Philip P. Mason scours the archival collections of the University of Michigan, Wayne State University, the State of Michigan, the Burton Historical Collection of the Detroit Public Library and the Library of Congress to provide a comprehensive look at the remarkable work of the McGregors. Mason examines McGregor's successful campaigns to reform the political, judicial, and educational institutions in Detroit, as well as his establishment of mental health, correctional, and health care facilities in Michigan. In addition, Mason surveys McGregor's work as president of the prestigious Merrill-Palmer Institute and his major collection of Americana books, which now serves as the core of the University of Virginia Research Library. In all, Mason shows how Tracy McGregor was able to establish a mission for homeless men, permanently endow a major foundation, and lead in the creation and support of a variety of charitable agencies without governmental assistance and with only the support of nascent philanthropic and business networks. For Detroit historians and those interested in philanthropy and social activism, "Tracy W. McGregor" will be enlightening reading.
