When you know the "story your banker will never tell you," it's more than likely that you would never be anxious about managing your wealth again. In fact, by applying simple principles, anyone with savings can take back the reins of their own finances, and make banks work for their money instead of allowing their money to work for the banks. Seasoned private bankers Alexandre Arnb ck and Trevor Pavitt have put forth a groundbreaking perspective on personal finance that will forever change the way you view your portfolio. Heal your investments: A story your banker will never tell you debunks the common understanding of making money through the financial markets, and offers a clear and measured plan for anyone to enjoy their wealth with complete peace of mind-and free themselves up to enjoy time with family, hobbies, and other pursuits. Clarifying both the misconceptions and offering a game plan of sound investing in layman's language, this revelatory financial tool illuminates the way financial markets work and shows the investor which tools to use to reclaim control over any portfolio, and to obtain the performance they deserve. It both demystifies the financial world through simple stories, and provides a summary of forty years of academic studies on financial markets. Both easy-to-read and based on solid academic evidence, this unprecedented resource is an eye-opening guide to personal savings and financial markets that brims with the crucial insight for any investor to know about it before investing in anything. By overcoming the common anxiety with sound, actionable knowledge, it will empower anyone to apply simple principles to achieve financial peace of mind. Brilliantly simple and sure to set anyone on the path to stress-free financial management, this book will forever change the way you invest.
Trevor is an exuberant, sociable, and witty thirteen year old. So how come, when he takes that nerve-wracking turn toward his locker at school, he feels scared and alone? Shunned by his friends, misunderstood by his parents, and harrassed at school for being different, Trevor goes from wondering what color glitter to choose for his Lady Gaga costume at Halloween, to wondering why some feelings "are so intense it makes you just want to lay down and die rather than go on feeling it," and making an attempt on his life. Trevor mixes humor and realism in an urgent look at what it is like to feel alienated from everything around you. And more importantly, what critical ties can step in at the most unlikely moment, to save you from despair, and give you reason to go on living. Trevor is an update of the film version of the story, directed by Peggy Rajski, which won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short in 1994. The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, and questioning youth. As the recent attention to youth suicides has received increased media attention, and Dan Savage's IT GETS BETTER campaign has gone viral around the world, the public is finally beginning to face hard facts. Thirty-three percent of suicides among teenagers involve LGBTQ youth, one-third of all LGBT kids report having attempted suicide, and nine out of ten report overt harassment at school. Trevor is an effort to make those kids feel loved and supported, so they will find the strength to go on living.
Trevor loves bones, perhaps more than any other dog, but today he has a very sore tooth and can't possibly chew the big juicy bone in front of him.Luckily, his best friend Ralph knows exactly what to do.
Celebrating a Life, Mourning a Death: A Guide for Professional & Informal Funeral Celebrants

This is a book for secular (or non-religious) funeral celebrations. In a secular funeral, every word of the service can be personal (this is possible because the focus of the secular funeral is not on God or a hope for life-after-death, but entirely on the deceased). However, there are still words that can be used time and again: there are only so many ways to say 'welcome' or to introduce a reading. With this in mind I decided to create a 'book of words' for my own use. My funerals have had so much positive feedback that I decided to write this short book to share my words and provide some insights from over 20 years of experience with funerals...I don't have enough faith to work as a Priest or Minister (although once upon a time I did), and I don't have enough atheism to buy into the British Humanist Society. I have great respect for both traditions (and this book may be useful to religious and non-religious celebrants) but I fall in between the two. I suspect that is where most people are, most of the time. This book could also be of use to families putting together a service without an outside celebrant (there is no law to say you need one ). This book will give you enough information to run a service yourself without a celebrant or clergy. I believe that anyone with some confidence in public speaking could lead a funeral or memorial service...
This book covers myths about technology, management, toxicology, and the environment. It helps all who work in the chemical industry and all chemical engineers, including teachers and students to avoid accidents and wrong decisions and use resources more effectively.
Review of previous edition: "Trevor Kletz's book makes an invaluable contribution to the systematic, professional and scientific approach to accident investigation". The Chemical Engineer Fully revised and updated, the third edition of Learning from Accidents provides more information on accident investigation, including coverage of accidents involving liquefied gases, building collapse and other incidents that have occurred because faults were invisible (e.g. underground pipelines). By analysing accidents that have occurred Trevor Kletz shows how we can learn and thus be better able to prevent accidents happening again. Looking at a wide range of incidents, covering the process industries, nuclear industry and transportation, he analyses each accident in a practical and non-theoretical fashion and summarises each with a chain of events showing the prevention and mitigation which could have occurred at every stage. At all times Learning from Accidents, 3rd Edition emphasises cause and prevention rather than human interest or cleaning up the mess. Anyone involved in accident investigation and reporting of whatever sort and all those who work in industry, whether in design, operations or loss prevention will find this book full of invaluable guidance and advice.

The art of perspective is of such a nature as to make what is flat appear in relief. Perspective is the guide and the gateway; and without this nothing can be done well in the matter of drawing. So wrote Leonardo da Vinci.Throughout time, artists have struggled to represent our solid, three-dimensional world on a flat, two-dimensional canvas. How have artists represented our world over the centuries? At what point did artists first represent the world in a realistic, natural-looking way? What techniques did they use to help achieve realism?Taking famous works as examples, the author takes us on a journey from pre-historic art, through spectacular Renaissance paintings, to modern-day hyper-realism. We learn how, over time, artists devised techniques that produce impressive depth and realism on a flat canvas. Next time you see a painting, especially a famous one, you will appreciate, even more, the genius behind the canvas
