Trudy’s parents are older than other kids’ parents. As she enters middle school, Ma and Pop are in their sixties and seventies—so old, in fact, that most people mistake them for her grandparents. As if that isn’t complicated enough, Trudy’s also having a hard time at school. Math class isn’t going so well, and Ashley—who she pinky-swore she would always be best friends with—has ditched her for a new crowd. Life at Benavidez Middle School is certainly an adjustment. As the school year goes on, she finds a new best friend, the straight-talking Roshanda; has her first serious crush on a boy; and gets used to life with lockers and class schedules. But just when things are getting better at school, Trudy and Ma notice that Pop is acting funny—he forgets to pick Trudy up from school and starts to put groceries away in the bathroom. Soon, Trudy and her mother embark on a quest to find out what is wrong. Told in a voice that is honest and pure, Trudy tells the story of an eleven-year-old girl who is growing up while her beloved Pop, diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, slips away.
A gloriously illustrated, funny tale about a tree frog who spies a young girl's comfy-looking bed. In this classic grass-is-greener-elsewhere tale, the amphibious Trudy is happy sleeping in a bark-covered tree until one wide leap lands the little tree frog on a young girl's bedroom windowsill. There, she spies the girl's wondrous sleeping quarters and becomes desperate to get out of her scratchy limb bed and onto those fluffy pillows. S ee what happens when she gets her wish. This rhyming tale will make young readers smile and encourage them to think about slumbering in their own comfy beds. Ages 5 to 8.
On the morning of August 6, 1926, Gertrude Ederle stood in her bathing suit on the beach at Cape Gris-Nez, France, and faced the churning waves of the English Channel. Twenty-one miles across the perilous waterway, the English coastline beckoned. Lyrical text, stunning illustrations and fascinating back matter put the reader right alongside Ederle in her bid to be the first woman to swim the Channel--and contextualizes her record-smashing victory as a defining moment in sports history. Time line, bibliography, source notes.
Trudy is a strange little cat whose only friend lives in one of her books. Things are about to change for Trudy when she meets Paisley, Ducky and Sir Battyton. Trudy learns that she just needs to find the right friends.
A timeless story that will always help our children connect with Mother Nature and our feelings. When a young girl from the Gitxsan Nation argues with her brother, she remembers the teachings of her grandmother and goes in search of a stone to share her feelings with. This engaging Indigenous story teaches children that it is okay to have feelings and shows them how to process and release negative thoughts.Medicine Wheel Publishing is committed to sharing diverse voices and perspectives, creating a platform for stories that celebrate Indigenous cultures and inspire understanding and respect among readers of all ages.
