Vern LaCrosse... ONCE UPON A TIME--- I was in the second grade at the very rural Mission Point one room school house near Cataldo, Idaho in 1936. Our truly wonderful young teacher for all 8 grades was Miss Martha Peschel. One morning she announced that an older gentleman, who was a professional Story Teller, would visit us that afternoon. When he arrived he walked to the front of our class and was introduced. He removed his suit coat, smiled broadly and proceeded to say nice words about us, our little school, and our pretty teacher; we thus liked him just fine, even before he began his story. I can't remember what his story was about, what I do clearly recall is the very strong impression he made on me. Wow What a job. What a career. What a way to live; just travel from school to school, smile at and talk to kids, get some fun questions, some applause, and an invitation to return. How could life get any better than that? I told my mother all about him and of my intention to emulate this fascinating man. Mom, and later an English Teacher in high school, gently explained that my "HERO" was a volunteer, a retired person, who made a few local appearances to amuse and entertain children, and did this as an act of love, not for the money. Nuts So...I eventually went into business to support my family, to be realistic about my career, and try forgetting about the Story Teller. The schoolhouse, the teacher, and most of the students are gone, but I have not forgotten this Story Teller from long ago. I have made and kept notes about people, places, events, and animals over the years, always secretly hoping I could someday retire and be a Story Teller. I have shared most of my stories with friends, co-workers, employees, and family during all these intervening years, and have thereby polished them sufficiently to receive a knowing smile, some laughter, an agreeing nod, and a few gratifying compliments. Now, thanks to Amazon, my time has come My WORDVUES will be offered for you each month as five stories in "E-Minibook" form. I shall share yarns about the interesting animals that befriended me, some humor, extraordinary people I've met, some details about the hand on my shoulder, and tell of unusual events and places, but mostly just view human nature in a way to lighten your day. Perhaps author James Slater expressed my "VUES" best, saying "Life passes into pages if it passes into anything. I like to write about certain things that if they are not written about are not going to exist". So...please join me, let me be a "Story Teller", and I truly hope you enjoy the ride Vern LaCrosse

We've all heard that our home should be our sanctuary, but most of us fall short of that ideal. Too often, the reality is that our homes are just another place for stress and work. Now trusted HGTV interior designer Vern Yip is here to guide us on confidently creating a home where we can instantly feel relaxed and rejuvenated, while also reflecting our individual style and needs. In this lush, beautifully illustrated book, Vern shares the tips, tricks, and design principles that 5-star resorts and hotels use to help guests get into vacation mode, and shows how we can duplicate that sense of ease and relaxation (while fitting into our personal design flair). He also opens the doors to some of his clients' homes to show you how these key design principles can vary with different styles, tastes, and locations. With Vern's reassuring tone and clear, easy steps, readers can create spaces that can make everyday feel like vacation!
Vern: Custodian of the Universe (Library Edition)
A thought-provoking and hilarious romp through time and space from debut creator, Tyrell Waiters that explores what it means to be human in a world fraught with uncertainty. On the edge of burnout, Vern decides to return to his family in the Sunshine State to start over. Starting a new dead-end job as a custodian at Quasar--a local science facility with a shady motive--he shrugs on his uniform, grabs a mop and bucket, and trudges off to clean up... Black holes? Space-time anomalies? Galactic ooze? Things aren't entirely what they seem at Quasar, and when Vern accidentally plugs in a mysterious machine and finds himself standing on the brink of the destruction of every planet in the Multiverse, he finds himself presented with the greatest question of all: what is the point?

Vern is a dangerous man--he makes illegal exchanges safe. Until someone tries to rip off a drug deal he's working and he gets blamed. Now both gangs involved are after him, including the one he works for. And he's going to clear his name, no matter who he has to kill in the process. Praise for VERN IN THE HEAT: "Rob Pierce is one of the more imaginative literary voices in our new emerging era of noir." --James Grady, author of Six Days of the Condor "Rob Pierce is urban noir's high priest from the mean streets." --Joe Clifford, author of Lamentation and December Boys "Rob Pierce is a new talent that cuts deep into the underbelly of society and rips the guts and heart out of his protagonist." --Lou Boxer, Noircon

Vern Blosum does not exist. The story can be told simply: in 1961 an artist paints five canvases inspired by pages in a horticulture book; then came parking meters, water hydrants, and animals. Some of them were shown at Leo Castelli Gallery, sold to collectors and public institutions, included in seminal exhibitions or books on Pop art-a seemingly normal progression in an artist's career, were it not for a rumor that emerged regarding his true identity. Alfred H. Barr, the legendary director of MoMA, started to worry about the rumor sometime in 1964 and, after extensive inquiries, came to the conclusion that Vern Blosum did not exist. His paintings were taken down or sent back to storage, and the artist's name fell into oblivion. Vern Blosum does not exist, but his work does. This book retrieves the oeuvre of this particularly elusive artist.

Vern is a colorful gumball machine that finds himself living in the corner of a Doctor's office. Like children he has no choice as to where he lives, and he draws conclusions from the surroundings he finds himself. Vern teaches TOLERANCE. Logically, reasonably, and obviously by the conclusions he sees
